mbs Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I hope Martin and all the other members in Cumbria are OK and their houses and more importantly their garages aren't flooded. Quote
martinmac Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Thanks Mr S, I am just watching this on the news and it looks pretty shocking in an area that is used to high rainfall. I am lucky to be afloat at work. The car is in a secure compound which should be ok. I am sure that others around the country have experienced floods like this recently but I have never seen anything like this before in Cumbria, even the Carlisle floods were nothing like this. Hopefully some of the owners up the coast can give me an update. Quote
Husky Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 stirlings just the same as normal tbh, the odd huge puddle here and there, nothing scary, the zed waded through for the first time ok Quote
AK350Z Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Don't worry, all ok here! Few bridges down at Workington and the Jennings Brewery at Cockermouth is going to be out of action for a while (disaster). Shame about that Copper who was on the bridge when it went, horrible conditions. Quote
martinmac Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Great to hear you guys arent sinking Andrew. Workington looks pretty grim. Quote
AK350Z Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 yeah, got News24 on now. Seaton is now an island, they'll have to make rafts out of Jam sandwiches to get across (local joke, wheres Jammy007 when you need him) Quote
Jammy007 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I'll not comment on that joke Andrew! Haven't long had the internet back up and running. Northside bridge has disappeared, its a huge bridge aswell. (The one they keep showing on the news) Had myself a walk down this morning and was shocked. Its starting to grate on me when everyone says we're stuck. To be fair its causing disruption to the roads but there's more than 2 roads in and out of Workington. They're expecting the bridge with the railway line to go down next & possibly another couple of bridges (one being broughton & the other the big one just up from northside bridge by seaton roundabout). The damage the river has caused is unreal though and I'm just pleased I live a few miles away from the river and right at the top of a bloody big hill Quote
Beavis Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Just watched all of this on the news. 372mm of rainfall Quote
martinmac Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 |I got home yesterday and fortunately all is well around here. We didnt have it anywhere near as bad as they did up the coast but it was still a little interesting. We lost a bridge too but fortunately nobody was on it. Quote
Danny 350Z Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Some shocking pictures. Bad times, especially that poor copper who cleared the bridge before it collapsed and went with it. A true hero. Quote
martinmac Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Pretty much back to normal now, The lakes are still pretty full but all the roads are clear. There wasnt any damage to the houses near me so that was a blessing. Quote
choptop Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Pretty much back to normal now, The lakes are still pretty full but all the roads are clear. There wasnt any damage to the houses near me so that was a blessing. Let's hope that is it on the rain front for some time! Quote
bronzee Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I'm pleased to hear a report from all you flooded out folk. Been watching on the news here, but they don't really give you all the details. Heard about the copper, such a pity. Stay safe all. Quote
max Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Local council have started to salt the roads now so its going to rain for the next six months. max. Quote
