cmmd11483 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Hello All, My JDM came with the nismo V2 spoiler fitted. Great but because of the extra weight the boot won't pop open when I press the button or stay open when it's up, it's a massive pain in the arse. Does anyone know of any solutions or better gas struts that can be fitted. I've heard that there is a ballast in the boot lid for cars that come without the factory spoiler, I've had a look but can't see anything? Quote
Tarmac@TarmacSportz Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Same !!! Mine doesnt pop up either, its a bugger when you have got shopping Quote
IanS16 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 There is a weight hidden by the boot plastics that is easily removable. Also yes there are plenty of uprated boot struts available. Try having a look on one of the traders sites Quote
Lexx Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Underneath the boot lid trim, there is a hefty weight screwed into the lid. Easy to take off Quote
Adriank Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I have the V2 aswell, it pops ok most of the time, and stays up on its own... I dont know if the bodyshop removed the weight or not, but it seems fine in my experience. Quote
srobrien Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Mines the same, it wont pop open but it WILL stay open, I have removed the weight but it didn't do much. I will probably invest in some uprated stays in the near future. R Quote
M13KYF Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 there is a guide in the guides section on how to remove the ballast Quote
cmmd11483 Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 I removed what was left of the ballast, didn't seem very heavy. I suspect this was just the bracket for the already removed counterweight. Anyway it made no difference whatsoever. Any of the traders have any offerings for new gas struts? ZMANALEX etc? Thanks Quote
clarkie34 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Try Adam at Z1 Auto,I did a group buy earlier this year. They worked out at about £120 all in delivered from the states. Quote
Dene8 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 There is a weight hidden by the boot plastics that is easily removable This i did not know, i'll be giving it a go at the weekend to see if it makes any difference to mine Quote
cmmd11483 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 I am in contact with a company in the UK who may be able to re-gas the existing struts for £35 or supply uprated items for £64. Both scenarios will involve sending the struts to them for either re-gassing or fitment of new struts to the existing brackets. I'll update when I know more. Quote
nixy Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 i always have to press mine twice and i only have the lip spoiler. As soon as we got the first cold morning and i had left my car outside and not in the garage the boot lid kept dropping as well. Quote
