not all areas offer this scheme. You have to pay a fee (which is more than the fine), it used to be half day classroom and half day on road and was well worth it but I think things have changed since then.

At least you don't get the points.

Very true chris! Has anyone done one off these speed awareness course's instead off taking the 3points? Just wondered what it intailed?

James, you don't the chance to choose! The one I attended was run by the Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Safety Camera Scheme. The course is an alternative to the fine and penalty points. You can elect to pay £60 and take the course instead of paying £60 and receiving the points.

The offer of attending a course is only made for low-level speeding offences. Those who are eligible receive a booking form with their penalty offer from Leicestershire Constabulary.

Overall the course was very informative and not patronising in any way. It certainly changed the way I drive in 30mph zones. I was offered it as I was caught with a laser gun doing 34mph. It was explained that the limit was 30mph + 10% and 1mph over i.e 34mph. Any more and I would not have received the alternative choice. The course is only allowed to be attented once, after that if you are caught again - fine and points!

I know a lawyer who specialises in speeding offences and will get you off. It aint cheap though. He charges around £400. He normally get the courts to pay for fees to. If you need his number, let me know.

What can always get you off? Mind at 400quid ill have the points! Be good for people who's gettin near the limit though

the lawyer will get you off with the speeding offence. He knows a loophole in the law that ends up with the case going to court, its at that point while in court the case is thrown out.

Two weeks I beleive.

And just so you know, any road with regular street lamps, illuminated or not, is a 30mph zone unless its marked otherwise. Other limits in street lamp areas must have repeaters and the rules are quite specific about spacing and positioning......
