givememorepower Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I've just (almost) bought some 20" wheels, fronts are 8.5x20 with 245/35/20 tyres and Rears are 10.5x20 with 275/30/20 tyres. On stock suspension are these going to rub? And will my speedo require re-calibrating? Cheers in advance as I've already agreed on a price, just waiting to make the sale. Quote

Depends on the offsets regarding your rubbing query. Your speedo can not be recalibrated. Quote
givememorepower Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 They are 5x114.3 fitments. Is this okay? Would my speedo still be accurate or un-affected? Thanks. Quote

The size of offset will determine how far out the wheel sits. The offset number for the front will also probably be different from the rear. It should be stamped on the inside of the rims. Your speedo should not be affected mate. Quote
Stew Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Offset is often stamped on the rim as ET then the number. eg ET20 The tyre profiles would be better to match in my opinion. A 30 all round would work fine. Quote
givememorepower Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Cheers, yeah I don't understand the point of putting higher tyres on the rears? If this was to raise it I doubt it'd be noticeable. Quote

The reason for the difference in tyres will be to compensate for the stagger. However Nissan staggered tyre sizes from stock. 30s all round work well. Thats what I run! Quote
Macdaddy Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Theres a web site somewhere that allows you to type in wheel size and caluculates which tyres you need to get so the speedo reads as near as possible to stock readout. I'll try find it. I made the mistake of just using 19's instead of 18's and with the wrong tyres the speedo was well out on my golf. Quote
Ekona Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Miata.net for the tyre size calculator. Just to add that another downside to big wheels is the blunting of performance due to the huge increase in unsprung weight, but I do appreciate that a lot of people put looks over performance so each to their own and all that. I have Rays for go and 20s for show! Quote
Ekona Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Best way to go IMHO. Leave the Rays on all the time unless going to a show, not a bad idea at all that. *steals idea* Quote
givememorepower Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 I have my new wheels fitted and they look mint. I do agree that the car does feel a little different to drive though Now though I may end up avoiding those extra points and keeping my lisence. I've tried to upload a wheel as my avatar through photobucket by gave up in the end! Quote
