XBOX 360 and Projet Natal

It's not just a simple webcam or two, it's a specialist webcam and a depth sensor as it scans in 3d not just 2d. There is also processing power in the unit as well as software, but don't imagine it will cost more than the console though.

I would imagine they will be trying to keep it under £100.

I read this with interest earlier - and came up with a couple of questions..

If you were using this to control an adventure game for example, how would you turn your character around 180 degrees? If you physically turn round, then you wont be looking at your telly anymore...

If you were playing football, it could detect kicks etc, but again how would it determine direction of play if you cant turn your body away from viewing the screen?

Will be interesting to see how this develops though, and it would certainly move toward making playing video games healthier, which cant be a bad thing.

If only I had this controller available now for use with Call of Duty, I'd be fit as a fiddle rather than looking more like the pillsbury dough boy :lol:

In a similar sense how do you detect that you want to walk through the game , you can hold a gun and point it but how do you fire it. ( dont suggest shouting bang bang ).

One approach would be to have the a controller in 1 hand and use one side of it ( analogue stick and shoulder buttons) - bit of a pain to hold.

Going from a joypad to the wiimote introduced some interesting dilemas and the natal will make people think of new interesting ways to do things.

What's wrong with just playing the sports for real?? :blush:

That means going outside and getting sweaty :scare::lol:

And having a social life, and not being an obese geek that can only interact with a screen....

Not all of you of course! :lol:

Estimated price so far is about $200, so you can call that £200 when it gets over here. Personally I'm not keen at all, as we all wowed when the Wii came out and now it's just full of the same old crap games (I haven't touched mine in about a year), and I fear the same shall befall my beloved 360. Besides, all I want to do is shout obscenities at Milo just to see what he'll do, not go fishing with the irritating little @*!#.

Yeah, I got issues. :angry::lol:

Having just watched a few of the videos on this, it is bloody amazing.

The possibilities for the technology are really fascinating. Imagine bundling Call of Duty with a gun controller which does the firing and turning left/right and the natal technology sensing your aiming, crouching, laying down etc....

Ill almost certainly get one - and hope that the developers can think of new and additional wayd of making this work with true games like COD, Halo etc...
