Kenny P Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I love the 350 Z but my cousin purchased a 04 plate with 40k on clock and he had to take it back to the garage within a week and get his money back. The gearbox syncromesh was worn and it needed a new clutch. Is this a common problem? Theres a soft top 55 plate at a garage near me and when I drove my cousins I did love the drive even given the problems it had. I am just weary of buying one given the experience my cousin had. So I thought I would ask here. Thankyou in advance. Ken. Quote
ZMANALEX Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Yes, there has been issues with the gearbox syncros and clutch replacements. Usually the syncro fault would be noticed within the 3 year warranty period and sorted accordingly. Clutch issues are down to wear and tear and as such are chargable. Alex. Quote
martinmac Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Hi bud and welcome to the forum. I have an 05 roadster and have had no real problems. If you read the buyers guide you will see that they are pretty reliable. Its unfortunate that your cousin got a bad one but I guess that can happen with any car. Quote
Kenny P Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 He had to take it to a gearbox specialist and have it examined before the garage would refund him and they said it needed a new clutch and gearbox rebuild. Lovely car it was as well.It has put him off for life but I was impressed and thought his must have been a one off. Out of interest how much would a new clutch and gearbox rebuild cost. Figures of around 4k were mentioned. The garage wernt paying that so just gave him his px back and his money. They sold it on though. Quote
xStric9x Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Not sure about gearbox price but you can buy a clutch for £275 and i've been quoted fitting for £180. Quote

martinmac Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 And as far as Alex is concerned, he has a zed which has significantly higher spec than standard and it goes round in circles rather fast Quote
Kenny P Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Are they far behind a E46 M3 ? On a private track of course. Quote
Trev-the-Rev Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Not that far no. The Zed is a very deceptive car in terms of speed. It doesn't actually feel that quick that is until you look at the speedo. by the way. Quote
