clarkie34 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Been trying to spruce the engine bay up today and noticed some white gunk on top off both suspension towers. Its also around the bolts near the radiator. Anyone know what it is and how to shift it.I tried to show where i mean in the pic if you can make it out. Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Tried APC Stew and just been out and bought some Engine degreaser. Its like a glue or sealant of sorts, got some off with a flat blade scewdriver. Tardis might be a better option, want to shift it all before i put my shiny bolts in. Quote
sunset350z Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I bet that's laquer that got sprayed all over the engine bay at some point by a dealer to make it all look shiny Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Yeah now I have to get it all off to make it look shiny. Quote
AK350Z Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Its probably the transport wax from when the car was new. I've got a fair bit of it on mine. Quote
Muddy Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 +1 ^^^ Transporrt wax, they all have it, well UK ones anyway Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Does anyone know the best way to shift it. Quote
Muddy Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 As above, Autosmart Tardis or a very good glue/tar remover from autobritedirect. Quote
H5 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I used AG tar remover initially and then AG SRP to shine it up a bit.... Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 Just bought a Dremel with polishing bits,I will see tomorrow if that will shift it. Quote
RobD7 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Mine has shed loads of this! I'm sure Rob can vouch for it!! Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Did not get round to it today Rob. I have ordered some Tardis, that should help dissolve it.If not then I will try the dremel. Quote
H5 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Mine has shed loads of this! I'm sure Rob can vouch for it!! Yours is some sort of spray they have put all over the bolts. It certainly built up over time! That's the next thing then Rob, some more under bonnet bling and a polishing session under there... Let us know how the Tardis goes Wayne. Rob might be ordering a gallon of the stuff! Quote
Lexx Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Mine is probs as bad as RObs by the sound of it. All the strut brace ends, and tower tops are coated in it. Never got round to shifting it yet. bUt hoping to sort it out this week. Lemme know how you get on with the Tardis. May be needing some! Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 The Tardis should come tomorrow,I will let you know how I get on with it. Quote
Stew Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Tardis is good stuff. Just make sure and rinse it off thoroughly. Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Got the Tardis today and most of the wax is gone in the first application. It did need a bit of aggitation with a stiff brush but most of its gone. A second application should see it all removed. Quote
Stew Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Good stuff isn't it! Working with it for a while and you get a nice floaty feeling! Quote
BulletMagnet Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 nice one, But it has me thinking, that stuff was on there for a reason I suppose, like protect the paint or something. Shouldn't that stuff get replaced with something else or not? Quote
clarkie34 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Yeah come to think of it i do feel a little light headed. Thanks for the tip Stew. Quote

I think its transport wax, they cover the hole car in it when new. Then remove before being sold, probably just to lazy to do under the bonnet. I have polished and put a proper wax on now and its nice and shiny. Quote
