350Z roadster boot opening

I'm new to Z ownership, and have what may be a dumb question.

On the roadster, when you press the button by the rear number plate to unlock the boot, should it lift up automatically. I press the button and it unlocks, but then I have to push my fingers in the narrow gap between bootlid and body to lift it up. Just wondering if the gas struts are meant to be strong enough to open it automatically ?

Cheers.

The gas struts aren't supposed to open the tailgate automatically, they're just there to make it easier to open and hold it up.

If the tailgate doesn't clear the latch on the first press of the button you can try packing out the boot springs with a few rubber washers.

You can't do that successfully with the Roadster springs I am afraid.
