addisj Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Hi all, I am wondering if it is common to get a gap at the top of the boot (both sides) after fitting new gas struts? I definitely fit them right way round, but either side of the boot at the top is raised buy a good few mil. Quite noticeable if you stand at the front of the car and look towards the back. The boot closes OK. Thanks. Quote
billdingo Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Sounds like you've got the brackets upside down. Quote
addisj Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Looks right to me, but please say if you see anything wrong Edited April 2, 2016 by addisj Quote
iwanprice12 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Without sounding like a noob...have ypu put the correct brackets on the right sides? I.e The bracket in the pic should be on the otherside? 1 Quote
billdingo Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Looks right to me, but please say if you see anything wrong Yeah, that's upside down. I did the same thing. They go this way up: 1 Quote
Mopedmark Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Common to do this but that's why this forum is soooooo good Edited April 2, 2016 by Mopedmark Quote
valy Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 ahaha just did the same...better I go out and change them while the sun is up 1 Quote
Cyder Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 We did the same as well but luckily realised when we found it was bloody hard to get the top of the strut to fix to the boot lid! Quote
addisj Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Ah man how funny. I just went out and swapped em over - perfect. I can see why people make this mistake as when the bracket is the wrong way up, it actually fits with the contours of the body. Thanks very much for your posts.. On a Saturday as well! cheers Quote
veilside z Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Excellent. You would think they would put a sticker on the strut from manufacture ie (this way up) . Hate to think how many are driving with them the wrong way round. Quote
ShawUK Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I need to fix mine! I thought mine were fine when I got it... Until 20 seconds later and it slams on your head. Where did you purchase your struts from? Quote
valy Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 it confused me because the previous OEM ones were this way and presumed that is the correct way...it does also works like this and it closes fine but noticed the boot is not that easy to lift..... Quote
Z33kid Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 I put mine the right way like that homie showed in that pic but i have a huge gap. Idk what’s wrong 1 Quote
HEADPHONES Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Post up pics of how you've attached the struts Quote
