If its the outer tie rod ends then thats not so bad. Theyre normally a quick fix but get tracking checked afterwards. I know some people count the amount of turns taking off and repeat number of turns putting new one on but past experience i would have tracking checked

That's them and it's booked for a full geometry check afterwards.

Is that a pricey job?

Did you have any signs before hand or was it a shock to the system?

Pricey is as pricey does or something, hours labour / mot / parts / geometry / free retest thin end of £200

On the plus side some people spend hundreds getting their car to steer better so after a period of skittish steering you're in for a treat!

Did it fail due to play or torn boot?

If play it should be noticeable, if just a torn boot its not noticeable when driving until it develops play.

Excessive play was the verdict. ...have to wait until Monday before it's done..
