^ I'm with him.

Grundy had a go but he used a spray gun.

It's a tricky thing paint work. You've got to know how to spray, read the paint, prep properly to avoid reactions. Clearcoating is another paint in the bum to consider as well. Grip coats, wet coats, flatting off without striking through.

In saying that Blind Pew would do a better job than most Chipsaway guys

hmmm i really want to learn to paint, ive painted odd bits with cans etc but never anything else.

my uncle used to use guns and a compressor to paint his hotrods.

Then give it a go. What's the worst that can happen you **** it up and pay someone else to do it, but if you dont try you'll never learn.

If you want to learn then I say go for it mate but there is a lot to consider in terms of tooling up.

Decent spray gun (this makes a massive difference in terms of quality)

Reasonable compressor (tiny thing will be a nightmare and you don't want low pressure when you're half way through a coat)

About 3/4 grades of sandpaper

Primer (don't get acrylic)

Plastic primer (if you sand back any parts to bare plastic)

Base coat (get it from a paint shop 1/4 litre should do a bumper easy)

2k lacquer

2k Hardener

2k thinners

Panel wipe

Tack cloths

Sanding block

Masking tape (low tack)

If spraying in situ or nearby dust sheets to mask off the rest of the car (Asda sell them for a quid)

G3 cutting compound

Rotary polisher with 3inch and 5/6 inch pads and backing plates

Outlay for above

Budget Asda price standard kit prob 500 quid.

Good quality 1000/1500 quid

Top quality excess of 2k

The new garage or Zed Shed 2 is according to my builder (Andy James also on here) actually a bungalow without the rooms

It will be quite big - proper workshop / garage for me to play in :teeth::D:yahoo:

As Ricey has said above proper kit is the expensive bit,

I have 5 or 6 spray guns ranging from the cheapest at £20 up to my baby the Devilbiss at about £600 and that is not a really expensive one :scare:

I also run 2 compressors 1 for the air fed resp and one for the spray gun then it gets complicated as you also need air lines for paint and lines for tools as the tools have an oil feed so you can't share them.

You need to get the use out of it to make it worthwhile buying everything!

Keep an eye on my progress -
