  4. Thanks for all the positive comments guys, went for a bit of a run this evening now that the geometry is sorted, well more of a shakedown with a steak & a pint All seems to be good, just a few very minor issues to look into at some point.
  5. So a little update today, went to see the Nissan (&now Datsun) God Sly @ Kaizer Motors where he carried out 4 wheel alignment & Gased the AC for me. Also put the car high so I could get some pictures of the underside now it's all back together A big thanks to Sly for providing the usual 5star professional service & correcting my little AC drier wiring error

IMHO there is a great danger as prices of the S30 are now beginning to exceed well beyond 25K they begin to fall outside of the range of affordable cars for the club orientated owner to drive and enjoy as there is now the potential owner that wants to buy one put it in a garage for a few years and use it an investment for later years Good on you Darren for firstly saving another 240 and secondly for wanting to use it on the road Really do not know if I want to wait until the end of the month at the Lakez to see it in the flesh so if there is a chance of see it out and about this Sunday quite fancy a trip around the M25 to see it I believe I have got in there at the right time in purchasing this car. Of course I'm going to drive it, thats what cars are for. Obviously I'm going to take good care of it & if anything wears or dirties it will give me something to do.   7. Ahahaha I can put some rusty tent pegs in the boot But then I'm not fussed about prizes, I'm just grateful that all the hard work is starting to pay off
  8. As if that's a choice! You just don't see mint 240s just knocking about. I'd put the cover on the Porker for now Ahh but it is a difficult choice, If I take the porker I don't really worry about where I leave it, if it gets stolen it's insured, if it gets dirty, well it's always dirty, if I'm involved in an accident I'll get another one. It handles like a peach & that flat six sings sweet nothings in my ears. Then the 240, to me it's a one off, ir-replaceable, so much time & effort gone into it, if something happens to it I would actually cry, I hate being the centre of attention & people looking at me (probably should have painted it silver) but then theres the pure satisfaction of driving such a special car so I think your right, the porker can have a rest on the dry days
  9. I've been on the local honey for the last couple of years & hardly had any hayfever last year or this year, I live in kent & work in smoggy London, but today I was in Buckinghamshire with sore eyes & a snotty nose, so the local honey definitely works for me
  10. It's going to be a tough summer having a choice of two awesome cars to choose from on a Sunday morning So I done a little bit tonight & even had some company. Got the electrics wired up for the AC that is being gased in the morning along with the geometry being done
  11. Yes I'm very pleased, although I do have an electronic pump & adjustable regulator on its way I guess I can put it with my other 2 starter motors & radiator
  12. Little update: didn't do to much today as I didn't get home till late this morning. I thought I would remove the mechanical fuel pump & make a blanking plate for the head, so done that & decided to hook it up directly to the pressure gauge, it made 4psi So I then looked at why it was only making 2.8 @ the carbs, removed the pipes from the fuel float chambers & checked the flow, all was good, then checked the float levels, both the same @23mm as per standard specification. I then checked the flow from the fuel tank to the pump, blew compressed air into the return to pressurise the tank & force fuel along the lines, result was a dribble of fuel out the end. So now closer to the issue I removed the fuel filter & repeated, petrol went everywhere, so the brand new fuel filter was blocked, obviously there was some debris hooked up in the lines/tank when it was re assembled. But now the car runs sweet, a steady idle & stacks of torque & power. Went for a little drive this afternoon, The noise is addictive & it's very hard not to race the engine above 4k, I'm sure all the bearings & rings have already bedded in but want to play it safe. Can't wait to get the geometry done on tuesday so I can really start to enjoy the car. Also I got the carpets & passenger seat installed this evening, followed by some of the AC system, pics to follow.
  13. Busy morning, went to investigate the said knocking on the rear end, found some play in the right rear wheel bearing, need to strip it down & investigate. Also done a pressure test on the fuel pump & its only making around 2.8psi & randomly gives a little bit more, should be a steady 4psi! So I'm taking a guess that this could be the cause of my lack of power under load. Also checked flow through the rails & opened the float chambers to inspect for debris. all appears to be clear. So new fuel pump on order, wanted to keep the original mechanical pump but going for an electric one for added reliability. If it proves to be the fuel pump I'll probably get a mechanical pump at a later date. So it's all tucked away in the garage now & I'm off to a wedding

Well today I was mainly chasing parcelforce AGAIN, as my parcel was apparently out for delivery yesterday, but didn't show, then it was on the van again today, heard that one before But with a stroke of luck I spotted this chap round the corner from SMD's house So I went in for the kill, raided his van & got my car parts But yet more disappointed as there are 2 items missing Had a play around with the tuning for a bit, started from scratch, found mechanical tdc & identified that it was correct on the crank pulley, which it was, then re-timed the car & started, I went crazy with a whole can of carb cleaner & found an intermittent air leak on the pcv for the brake booster when the hose is moved fixed that, synced the carbs & tweaked the feeling with the air filters on this time. All seems good. I will be test driving tomorrow morning as I'm off to get the car on the shaker plates to identify the knocking on the rear end that I can't identify with the car stationary.

Exactly, when potentially buying a sub £20k car is it really worth getting this done on every viewing??? it would be crazy, if you went to look at 3cars you would have already spent over £1000 before purchasing. Has anyone done this when buying a 350 or 370? I doubt it very much Unfortunately it's just one of those gambles you take when buying an older car, it will either be a cheap fun summer car or the complete opposite

  17. I know the tuning process & had it spot on before, the only thing that changed was the filters & having the headlights on, so maybe it's a grounding issue with the headlights & coil/dizzi Ahahaha I like old school, you can usually see the problem without a computer
  18. The bore scoring sucks dude, I will be taking a look at mine soon But mine thankfully hasn't used a drip of oil in the last 5kmiles including a ring trip & trackdays, nor are my engine parts or underside corroded, suppose thats the difference between garaged & non garaged cars
  19. brand new condensors, coil, dizzy, points plugs, compression is 11.5-11.6bar on all 6 cylinders, everything gapped correctly. The issue I had when I went to install the engine was one of the suction pistons was stuck, both have been removed, cleaned. I'm suspecting one of these could possibly be the cause. After reading though these guides, which are pretty much the same as the others I have read & followed I have come to the conclusion that it could be: An air leak, will try some carb cleaner over all the joints & hoses tomorrow, Air filters, I tuned & ran the car without filters, then on my second run I had the filters installed Suction piston getting stuck Vacum advance getting stuck - will run the car without tomorrow I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of it

  21. Well this evening I've been tinkering with the sticky carb, stripped it down & rebuilt it, tuned the car, went for a drive. Got the car pulling strong, lots of torque, not revving it past 4.2k though. managed to get a couple of pictures (forgot to close the door properly ) Then took it out again after investigating a knocking on the rear end to have lost all power above 2.5k So I need to investigate the issue further. Any SU carb experts on here?
