  1. funny you should mention this - a lot of companies wont ship to UK - you need a states postcode - but there are hosting companies over there - check out http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ there was an article a while back about it?

I want to get the 160GB ipod - its about 200 dollars - about £100 - bargain! So ifTere maybe can set up a forwarding service for us!!

Mates getting married in California next year and wants me to go over for the wedding so will make a holidayand buying spree out of it I think! ;)

Never been over there before :scare:

Well, my dad lives in Texas and im waiting for some bits from him right now (intake duct and aut eyelids - paid $65!!) but i cant ask him to ship wheels for me - he's a busy man!

Anyway, having just read the money saving experts guide, im not sure i'd want to buy anything of value - you pay import duty and then VAT!? How ridiculous. I hate this country.

...but i did manage to get my laptop back through customs in March when i was over there - so it only cost me £200!!

  2. Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a shipping company that i could use when purchasing things off eBay.com?

On their eBay there are so many things for the zed, and they're all half the price of over here...

Im in the market for a set of alloys at the moment, but dont wanna spend too much, so usa might be an option... who does adam use when shipping? ...and do wheels get spanked at customs?

take a look at the auction below... im not saying they'll end at that price, but there are others with buy it now prices for not much more... and even if i pay $400 for shipping then im still saving!

    19" Staggered Wheels

    Any suggestions welcome.

  3. Good luck with the sat-nav pal!

Im not sure it'll be possible without replacing some of the hardware as i think its something to do with the PAL/NTSC system. When i was researching getting my import i read there's a company that would convert it to for about £750... if you get stuck, look them up and phone them, pretending you're interested, and just ask how they do it!!! Might point you in the right direction!

  4. Here's the pics... i could have made it better - i.e. sew the material instead of glue-ing it as i did. I may re-do it at some point, but i was tryna watch United on tv at the same time!

..and just to prove i can sew - check out what i did in my old bmw a couple of years ago...!!

  5. I've made my own using a piece of foam and some faux leather. Its perfect for me but whether you'd want a non oem-quality product is another question. Most people probably wouldn't like it!

I'll get some pics in a bit..

  6. just looking at my renewal notice now (£185 for 12 months **cough**) and it says in red writing on the top "DO NOT APPLY FOR YOUR TAX DISC BEFORE THE 15TH DAY OF THE MONTH BEFORE THE TAX DISC IS DUE TO START"

Thats just to make sure you dont get it a month early - if you buy on the 10th of the month for example, it would be inclusive for that month, so you would only get 11 months + 20 days instead of a full 12 months.

  7. Im with you shire... i've been thinking about this myself.

From what i've gathered, pre-'06 cars will go up from March 2009 to £300, and then to £440 in March 2010.

So, if you buy 12 months now at £220, but then by your next 12 months at end of Feb next year, thats the best possible solution for you.

You'll be wasting 3 months of the existing tax (3x£18=£54), but that'll still be cheaper than paying the full £300 (£220 + £54 wasted = £274 for next years tax) - taking you to Feb 2010 - and then you can take the £300 tax for 2010-2011 as its before March, and not pay the £440 until 2011.

Doing this would save you £26 next year, but then £140 the following year.

Whether or not the dvla alows you to tax your car before the disc expires i dont know... but they must do surely, i.e. if you've just bought a car, or if you declare it sorn... there'll be a way to do it - can anyone confirm?

Im just throwing out ideas here so please check out what i've said before you commit to it :headhurt: And if anyone else can confirm or deny my theory??

  8. My Dad lives in America and i was there in March. EVERYTHING is so much cheaper, and everyone is paid more. Its disgusting.

He lives overlooking a huge lake, and has a beautiful house and land... and its worth $300k. Thats £150k. You couldn't buy a flat for that in this country.

However... they're all up in arms over there - petrol has risen from $3.05 a gallon to $3.54 a gallon since i was there in March. Now that is a rise!

  9. I read about a z being converted here in the uk... cant remember where tho. It said that it doesnt affect power either, using the lpg for the normal driving, and then automatically switching to petrol when it needs the performance... Dont know how true that is tho?

I know a couple of people with lpg conversions, and they usually put the tank in the spare wheel well, and can cost between £1800 and £2500. Which i'd probably save in a year if i converted mine!

  10. And lastly - you're so lucky that your insurance is that cheap - have you got it through your parents or something? Im 24 and i pay £2550 to insure my zed!

:scare: Do you have 9 points, 0 ncb and loads of write offs? :p

I dont know why its so high, but it almost stopped me getting the zed. I shopped around for weeks, and called probably 30 companies, and that was the best i could get.

I've got 0 points, and macclesfield isnt bad for car crime as far as i know! But i've had a quote for when i turn 25 in october and it should come down to just £825! I cant wait.

  11. Tough call if the zeds only your weekend car bud. Whatever you own as a second car, its always going to be wasting money.

At the moment with the shocking petrol prices and the impending tax rape, the value of all performance cars are going through the floor.

I was in a similar situation to you a couple of months ago - deciding whether to sell cos of the financial issues, but i've decided to keep mine. I'd say your choices are:

    1. Keep your car, and mod it. If its a UK car its probably worth £14k now.

    2. Sell it and get something different - but thats going to depreciate just the same as the zed. More so if its newer! I dont know what your budget is, but i dont think there's anything better than a zed at this value.

    3. Sell your zed and buy a cheaper import zed. You'll get a similar spec with slightly more miles for about £10.5k - and that money saved will be in your pocket. Then mod that car. That way the depreciation wont hit you as bad, and the mods added wont affect the value as much.

Ultimately, your family's always gonna tell you to sell your 2nd car cos to them its a waste of money. But if you're a car nut then its not a waste is it?

And lastly - you're so lucky that your insurance is that cheap - have you got it through your parents or something? Im 24 and i pay £2550 to insure my zed!
