Great find! Seems to me that Hamilton's assestment of "I had no where else to go" was spot on. Further, he clearly went easy, not accelerating as hard as he could, left Kimi buy, Kimi tried to block him (isn't that a penalty? has been in the past), and Hamilton got by. Kimi simply was outpaced and outdriven (and I am a Ferrari fan as I mentioned in the other thread)

something to consider (not sure if its like this on a UK/JDM car though) - when doing the swap on a US car, there is one wire that must be clipped for the turn signals, otherwise that bulb will always be illuminated. - as I recall its a solid blue wire. I had to do this when swapping my stock 04 units to the 06. Absolutely night and day difference between the light output on both units by the way - the std. 03-05 units leave a lot to be desired

I absolutely love F1...I wake up stupidly early in the morning on Sundays just to watch it live (7 am here in the states). To wake up on a Sunday, sit back with some coffee, and relax with some nice breakfast as I watch my favorite sporting event is a real pleasure. However, to wake up so early, only to end up disgusted and annoyed the rest of the day because of this investigation, is more than a let down! In the grand scheme of things, I guess I am a Ferrari-guy. I just love the aura that they as a manufacturer has. I am not by any means a McClaren guy - I don't quite know why, I just never liked them as a team. The whole incident last year cemented that feeling all the more for me. However, they do certainly attract tremendous driver talent. I believe Hamilton is bordering on phenom - and I think he is great for the sport as a whole. A clean cut guy, who has come up the ranks and now sits among the worlds greats. I find it all very compelling and positive for the sport. While it's not a racial thing, I also find it very refreshing to see someone from outside the sandbox come in and shake things up a bit. It seems that the stewards want to manage a simulation, and not a real live race with live human actions and reactions. Did Hamilton get an advantage by skirting the chicane? Yes, IMHO he did. However, did he do everything one could reasonably expect to relinquish that advantage? Yes, I believe he did. Under the circumstances, I think he did everything he could have, within the confines of the rules. It is afterall racing, and with 2 laps left to go and rain starting to fall, I am sure that his emotions were at an 11, and he wanted nothing more than to execute a clean pass. I find it interesting that Raik. passed Hamilton under a newly waved yellow, yet that is not at all called into questioning (at least not publically). I honestly believe no penalty should have been imposed, either on the spot, belated, attached at Monza, or otherwise. Instead I think for once it would have been refreshing to see the stewards say "ya know what, this is racing, and given the cirumstances, we believe they both fought hard and admirably". But in the high line world of F1, with all the money and all the power and all the ego's, I suppose that is expecting too much. I wonder if we'll ever see an interview with Massa, so see what he feels about the incident. I can't imagine the pressure one is under at that level of the sport, with the money, the fame, etc riding on one's shoulders. But with all the great memories he has made for himself to date, this doesn't seem like a win to be proud of.

Colin - sorry to bump an old thread. Did you figure out what route to go? So ITG can build a bespoke box based? Who provides them the needed dimensions? Since I've got the little project in the works, the airbox would be something I'd consider as a part 2 for my own car

I believe all the cars post 05 use a transmission with an 009 code (I think that's what they call it). That is the latest "version" if you will.

When you are paying top dollar for a new car who wants a recon part on it? Plus, judging by the experience the majority here in the UK have with the Nissan dealer network, I wouldn't trust most of them to undertake any major work on a Zed. Marshalls may be different but most of them are used to working on Micras and not doing such a great job of that. A new car should be perfect - that is what you pay for. A repaired car is not a new car in my book, however well repaired it is. But that's my point - you're taking a huge leap of faith that they would even be considering using a recon'd part. Especially considering it's not a part Nissan offers recon services on, nor do they even recommend. While I agree a new car should be perfect, sometimes things just don't work out that way. In this situation, it sounds like the dealership is doing everything they can to make the situation as right as possible in short order. Replacing a transmission is no big job at all - an experienced tech can literally do it single handely in under and hour - the hardest part is getting the existing trans. separated from the engine (the guide pins can sometimes be sticky). Here in the US it's the same...people hate going to the dealer. But there are good ones and bad ones. Hopefully this has a happy ending for the owner. Personally I would not care if they replaced it with a "used" transmission, or rebuilt unit, or new - but that is just me. As long as it worked properly and any future issues were agreed to be covered by Nissan (at any dealership), I would be fine with it, but I certainly understand and appreciate that everyone has different views on this. 2004 - 24500 miles, full dealer history.. No problems with bumps, just clutch.. then you can rasonably assume it's not the mounts, etc. If I had to wager a guess, given the year of the car, I would think a faulty throw out bearing. Quite common. While in there, check the obvious things such as clutch disk condition, pressure plate fingers (to make sure they are all even and one/some have not collapsed) as well as torque on the flywheel bolts

because they will put it in writing - and frankly, what's the difference anyway (as long as the direction they take is explained before hand, not after). I am assuming the car is a lease? As such, it's Nissan's call how to treat the car. Here in the US, they don't hesitate at all to replace the entire trans, they don't rebuild them. The service writer he is dealing with sounds like he is doing everything in his power to keep the customer in the loop and work with him as best as possible. At the same time, it's a 2 way street. The trans issues on the Z's were early on in their build life, and then all but disappeared. So, this just may be a situation that is a bit unchartered waters for the service mgr. and as such, he is just covering all his bases by laying the job at Nissan's feet to deal with. Seems perfectly logical to me. While it certainly stinks to have a new car go through teething pains so early on, it is afterall, a car, and it's subject to mechanical quirks, etc. Sounds to me like other dealers, at least to this point, could take some lessons from how this situation is being taken care of thusfar

gixxer is pretty much spot on with where to start if the car is an 02-06, the master and slave are very easy to see. Slave is right on the driver side lower frame rail, right adjacent to the trans. If the car is an 07 +, then it is inside the transmission housing itself...much more involved

is this a brand new car? If not, do you have the service history? Any noises going over bumps in the road, or is it strictly related to being on and off the clutch?
