  1. I keep asking myself why i need a dvd player in my car? If i had an MPV and kids in the back to entertain, then fair enough, but in a Z? All i really need is a radio and ipod connecion (never use cds), bluetooth phone would be nice, but this can be added. Have got a TomTom which works for my nav needs....and has speed camera locations etc and fits nicely in the cubby hole. Thinking of ordering one of these http://www.audio66.co.uk/product.asp?id=5592&cat=26&man=1&main=1&userid=&firstsel=cat&variation=
  2. Cheers I have got an infinity basslink, which i hope will fit in the space (was bigger than i thought when it arrived) and have ordered one of the bose covers from the US (was only £12 extra as i was ordering some other bits too). Once my collar bone heals and I get an opportunity to try to install I'll let you know how it goes! I did consider the subs under the cross brace route as have seen some very nice custom enclosures available in the US for this - but I like having a boot!
  3. Not exactly, as the two can work side by side but if you are playing mp3's then why go back to cd's. Have a look at this http://www.phoenix-pcs.co.uk/acatalog/P ... ICX1R.html Fitted it a Zed http://www.350z-uk.com/gallery/displayi ... at=0&pos=4 The car is a UK car and they changed the head unit only, running through the Bose amps and speakers. This gives you sat nav, dvd, mp3, mp4, Ipod, all for £980. if i had my time again that is the way to go. I can't see a PC in either of these links
  4. I have been trying to piece together what I want from the ICE in my car and think I have my list of initial requirements (i have a non-Bose UK car): Double Din Screen DVD Playback iPod control Ability to link in a bluetooth car kit SatNav (not on the same screen the music is controlled by) More bass Steering wheel controls I have most of this covered with my planned install, which is the IVA-W200ri head unit, (which gives me the screen, DVD playback and the ipod control) and an Infinity Basslink sub behind my seat. The HU will be connected to the steering wheel through a PAC-SWI ALP allowing some of the steering wheel controls to work also. SatNav will be handled by my TomTom 700 which is good enough (for now) and am planning on hardwiring this into the Sat Nav cubby hole above the stereo. What I am struggling with is the bluetooth hands free. My car has the integrated blue tooth adapter, which I do like! However I can not see anyway of keeping this and connecting it into the Alpine head unit. The HU has a phone in lead, but this is just a signal to mute the audio, there doesn't appear to be anyway of getting the sound into the HU to get it out of the speakers. Unless the "audio interupt in" actually carries the audio from the phone to the HU and the HU switches to the audio on this cable when there is a signal (but there is no return path, it is only one wire!??). One alternative is to replace the bluetooth kit with an aftermarket one, like the Sony Ericsson one, however I would like to try to use the OEM one if possible, any ideas on how to achieve this? Anyone got a wiring diagram for how the car kit is wired into the car and the steering wheel?
  5. Has anyone put a sub in a non-bose car in the pannel behind the driver seat (i.e. where the Bose sub is?). Saw this Bose Sub Cover but this is for a US car - are the pannels likely to be simetrical? Will this fit behind the drivers seat on a RHD car? Cheers
  6. Looks perfect, but is very expensive! Am not bothered by it being motorised, will quite happily open and close it myself! Any cheaper alternatives about, that will fit a 2004?
  7. Spotted an Ultra Yellot 350 heading southbound on the A303 somewhere in Wiltshire yesterday at about 1pm. Flashed my lights to say hello, but there was so much spray and traffic about I doubt my gunmetal was even visible!
  8. Did you get an answer to this?
  9. Is it possible to replace the standard cubby hole with a sat nav enclosure - but without the sat nav? I understand the sat nav has a sliding door, as opposed to the hinged one on the regular cubby, which would suit better for driving around with the cubby open to see my Tom Tom. So what I wanted to do was get hold of a satnav cubby (with no nav unit) which I could cut up and fit my TomTom into and then replace the standard cubby with it. Any idea where I could get one of these?
  10. I want to get an Alpine head unit for the ipod, but am liking the integrtaed blue tooth kit - is there no way of having both? Or do I need to get an add-on for the Alpine to have a blue tooth kit and if I do, can i wire the microphones installed in my car into this new kit? Someone must have a bluetooth kit with an Alpine HU!?!

    GT4 or GT4?

Fair point. I had typed a load of stuff but there comes a point when my input becomes irrelevant (it was probably months ago ) Dorian - i value your input still - you know A LOT more about my car than I do!!! In the process of ordering the Nismos, shipping next Tuesday Now on to choosing some tyres - and finding a good deal on them!!

    GT4 or GT4?

Yeah, just looked up on Rochford's tyre calculator and it said a 9.5" rim could take a 285 tyre. Think I am going to for the 19" Nismos and the 255 / 285 combo!

    GT4 or GT4?

Yeah, a 275/40/18 gives a fairly close match on the rolling road radius to a 245/45. The 285 is over 1% out - which is not too bad, but would prefer to keep within 1% if possible.

    GT4 or GT4?

That was one of the things I was considering - whether or not I could get enough rubber on the road with an 18 inch rim. I have noticed wheel spin with the 275 Toyos when putting my foot down in second gear going in a straight line! Thinking of changing the rims and keeping the same spec of tyres.

    GT4 or GT4?

Cool Was thinking Nismo's myself - just trying to justify the extra $500 for them (and a little more for the tyres!) Rota GTR's?

    GT4 or GT4?

In the ongoing personal saga that is my quest to change the wheels on my car I find myself facing the dilemma of GT4 alloys of GT4 alloys...of course I mean the Nismo LMGT4 and the Anniversary Edition GT4s. I can get a set an original set of GT4 rims, 18" - as this is the only size they come in for $1,425 (+ taxes) delivered to blighty OR I can get a set of silver LMGT4s in either 18" or 19" delivered for $1,900 (+ taxes). Am stuck for which to go for, a set of 19" Nismo GT4s or the 18" Limited Edition GT4s, my head is having a match with itself! Does anyone have either of these alloys on a Gunmetal car, with or without the Nismo kit?
  17. In some substances (such as metals) resistance is directly proportional to heat, so an increase in heat will increase the resistance of any metal components, meaning that battery will get drained quicker as it is having to 'push harder' to meat the needs of the PDA. Basically for metals - the hotter things are the more they drain the battery Now, when talking about semi-conductors things get more complicated, the resistance of a typical intrinsic (non doped) semiconductor decreases exponentially with the temperature, meaning that the hotter they were - the less they drain the battery Extrinsic (doped) semiconductors have a far more complicated temperature profile with an initial drop in resistance until a saturation point occurs then the resistance starts to increase again! In terms of your PDA, if the higher temperature does mean you are getting shorter battery life then it would imply you have a lot of metal conductors inside your PDA (i.e. copper tracks on a circuit board).

    LMGT4 Alloys

Anyone got any recommendation on where to get these from? Looking at them as an alternative to the Special Edition GT4s. Am serously conisdering 18" rims - not only as the tyres are a lot cheaper but the extra bit of air makes the ride a little more comfortable! Seen some 19s (19x8.5 with +25 offset in front and 19x9.5 with +30 in the rear) available at a pretty good price Also 18s from MyNismo (18x8.5 with +25 offset in front and 18x9.5 with +30 in the rear) I am assuming these are the standard offsets, so either would fit OK, fill the arches OK and clear the Brembos? Guides on prices to pay, any UK dealers?
  19. Hi I was thinking of doing this too, but I have the older TomTom so no need for a mount. Was surprised how well the GPS worked from inside the cubby hole. I was thinking of getting a Kenwood screen and hard drive Nav system (about £800) but if I install the TomTom I can just get the head unit - and not be tied to the Kenwood (which I was choosing purely on the Sat Nav performance). Hmm, Alpine, Kenwood, JVC.... Might be the Alpine as I like the built in iPod connectivity!
  20. Being in London I can go and pick them up too, saves me the shipping May ask about getting the kit sprayed and fitted there too. If anyone knows a good supplier of the speed racing rear then I'd appreciate it, found their Italian website...but couldn't see if it was possible to order online through it!
  21. Hi, where have you seen this for £758 in the UK? I was looking at importing from the US, is about $1000 for the kit, plus shipping + taxes! which will work out more than £758!
  22. Hi Do you have any pics of the kit on your car? Cheers
  23. For the right price you might be lucky
  24. I don't particularly like the Volks, simple as that! Want the GT4s but struggling on that front, so these are the closest I can find. Yes, i prefer the style of these Alessios over the Volks, but then I don't like Blue cars either. If we all liked the same we would all be driving the same cars!
  25. I agree to an extent, think the rear bumper finished the side profile nicely, but is not that attractive from the back if you look at it square on. Maybe the GR front and sides and find a similar back (when viewed from the side) but with a bit more character (when viewed from the rear).
