  1. Hi All, I've recently installed an aftermarket woofer in my JDMs (non bose) boot. Everything sounds fine and getting plenty oomph from the new woofer which im happy with. Unfortunately im getting an annoying rattle from the square panel that covers the compartment behind the driver seat when the bass is particularly low. If I press on the compartment panel the rattle/vibration stops. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their woofer and how did you remedy it? Am I right in saying that this compartment panel is removable? I'm guessing that removing this panel would remedy it but I can imagine it will look pretty unsightly?!? Thanks for any help. Roy
  2. Hi All, On and off over the past few weeks, as I have been driving, i've been bothered by condenstation/steam gathering on the middle outside bottom of my front windscreen near the engine vents. It wipes away easily enough but begins to gather again every 10 seconds or so. It doesnt happen all the time, mainly when its a bit damp. Is this something to worry about (excessive heat from engine?!?) or just normal in the appallingly bad/damp weather conditions up here in Scotland? Cheers Roy
  3. My steering wheel grip is getting a bit tatty and is in need of replacement, this may be a stupid question but whereabout would I be best going to get this replaced and how much would i be looking for to get this done? Is it possible/easy to do yourself? Thanks for any help/suggestions
  4. I bought my JDM from MacKay Trading 2 years ago and as far as im aware the business has recently been sold so the owner is looking to flog his stock of bodykits/alloys etc etc. Maybe some bargains to be had as he has ebay listings and stuff too.
  5. Used to live in Arbroath but now in Dundee, i'm an Aberdeen supporter though if that counts!!
  6. Hi, I have a JDM and my battery packed in at the start of the year. I bought a standard UK Z Battery from my local Nissan garage (North East Scotland) foolishly assuming it would be more or less a straight swap! Upon attempting the replacement, the new battery was too big for the space left by the old one, so i took it into the same Nissan garage who made space for the new battery as well as replacing the posts to connect it and all was good. I dont know if i was just lucky that my local Nissan garage knew how to do the business (you mentioned that your local Nissan garage didnt manage), but it is definitely possible with the correct know-how to fit a bulky standard UK Z Battery into the area left by the titchy JDM battery.
  7. I pay about 670 for a 10 month bonus accelerator with Elephant, im 27 and with 3 points on my licence. I was quoted 490 before i got the 3 points (just a week before i was due to renew ). Crime is pretty low up here in the North East of Scotland so that probably affects things more than my driving ability!
  8. I live in a pretty small town in the North East of Scotland so i would imagine most of the local mechanics rarely see cars like a Z and dont have much experience in dealing with them! All the good mechanics i know dont work weekends so hopefully the Nissan dealership will do the trick tomorrow. A week is too long to be without my Z!
  9. Apologies if this is in the wrong section..... I phoned up my local nissan dealer to see about replacing my dead battery (as local garages were having trouble sourcing batteries for a Z and my local nissan dealer is actually quite reasonably priced), they said they would order the correct battery based upon the year of my Z, but it would be this coming Monday before they could fit it in. I said i would prefer not to wait till Monday and would collect the battery on Saturday and hopefully get a local mechanic to fit it for me. When i took the Nissan battery to my local mechanic he couldnt manage to fit it as the posts on the new Nissan battery are too big for the connector terminals currently in my engine (my JDM Z currently has an Idemitsu Super Diehard battery in it and it is about 2/3rds the depth of the battery Nissan have supplied me with and has smaller posts on it). He recommended i go back to Nissan to verify it was the correct battery they had supplied me with. I went back to Nissan who took my chassis number etc and ran it through their parts database and verified it is the correct battery for my Z even with it being an import. My question is, what have other JDM owners done about replacement batteries? Have people successfully fit an OEM Nissan battery or does everyone go down a non-OEM route? The Nissan battery looks like it will be a tight squeeze in the battery space and I'm assuming the mechanics in the Nissan garage will be able to replace the terminal connectors currently in my Z to fit the new battery without too much fuss!
  10. I've been considering getting a spoiler fitted to my JDM as i reckon it looks a little bare without one. I have been scouring around looking for something i like and I've found this Rieger Tuning spoiler retailing at around 500 bucks. Has anyone seen a Z with this particular spoiler on it? Pictures of it on the net seem to be few and far between. How much would an average spray/fitting cost and does anyone know of any good bodyshops in the North East of Scotland??
  11. Hi, I'm currently considering replacing the factory front speakers after installing a new JVC headunit, i have a JDM with non-bose set up, do you need to replace speaker wiring/connections or can you just swap the old speakers with new ones directly? Has anyone done this themselves and if so how difficult is it? Has anyone had this done by an ICE specialist? If so how long did it take and how much did it cost? Thanks for your help!
  12. Whereabout in Scotland are you from mate? I got an import from MacKay Trading in Edinburgh and got a very good deal. People i dealt with were very knowledgable and the whole thing went without a hitch. If they dont have a car in stock that you like they will source one for you etc etc. I dont know the rules about posting URLs so google the name above for more details.
  13. My first to second is occasionally a bit clunky but it comes and goes, i dont mind it half as much as a strange clicking noise which my clutch pedal makes now and again when depressing it. When i took it to the dealer he assured me that all of them do this and even let me sit in another one and try it. Sure enough it made the same clicky noise and he mentioned it has something to do with the mechanism that you have to depress the clutch to start the engine. It seems to come and go, i dont know if the way i drive the car and change gear effects it or not?!?
  14. my fiancee is a lawyer so i might threaten to set her onto him, although im sure he has heard it all before
  15. PRobably because this is the first used car i have ever bought!! lol
  16. I might chance my arm with the dealer and see what he says, you dont ask you dont get..... I may well just end up replacing the front speakers. I dont suppose anyone knows reliable ICE specialists in the North East of Scotland?!?
  17. hmmm the guy may well have been spinning me a line hoping to make some more "work" for himself (although he did seem reliable enough and didnt overcharge me for the work he did do). I just checked the wiring diagram in the instructions for the headunit and the connector on the back has 2 connections for a left and right rear. I wonder if somehow the speaker wiring is damaged as the rear speakers have never worked from day 1, even with the standard head unit in. If i had of known there actually were speakers in the back i would have insisted that the dealer get them working before i received the car. I might get in touch with the dealer and see if he will stump up to get the speakers hooked up. What do you think the chances are of him coughing up?!?! The rear speakers do make a difference to general sound though?!?
  18. sorry i should have said it is non bose!
  19. I've had my JDM for about 4 months now, I replaced the bog standard cd player with a JVC MP3/DVD player a couple of months ago. I never actually knew the car had rear speakers until the guy i got to install the headunit mentioned that it would require some extra wiring work/conversion to connect them to the new headunit..... MY question is.... Is it worth getting this extra work done to get the rears up and running? How long should i expect a specialist to take to actually do this? Are they a better quality than the fronts (which i find to be a bit lacking in mid range and harsh at loud volume anyway) or would i be better off investing in a better pair of front speakers? Thanks for any advice.
  20. had 2 of mine (yes 2!!!) nicked by some local scumbags. wouldnt you just love to catch whoever did it! It took me about a week to calm down, god knows how i would react if someone really damaged my Z
  21. I have fitted an aftermarket headunit into my JDM so i have a PY-340 CD/Tape Player with an FM Band Convertor lying about my house. In the unlikely event that someone is after one, if they make me an offer they can have it.
  22. I've had my JDM for about 4 weeks now, just last week the clutch pedal itself started to make a clicking noise everytime i push it down. It doesnt make the same noise on the way back up though.... I had a feel about of the mechanism underneath the pedal and it seems to have plenty lubricant on the spring etc ( i got plenty on my fingers anyway!). Has anyone experienced this before? Do you think it maybe needs more lubrication and if so whereabout? Its still under warranty so if it could be anything remotely serious i'll take it back to the garage to be looked at and fixed. I'd rather not take it back to the dealer and look like a divvy if its something straightforward i could fix myself. Cheers
  23. I finally managed to get the old stereo out and install a new metra harness so the JVC is ready to slide in....BUT..... The iso adaptor i bought (PC2-72-4) is not the right one AND in the process of removing the 2 connectors from the old stereo i broke one of the connectors, so i now have about 9 multi colour wires which are "exposed" and the other 6 of them still in their original connector. I'm admitting defeat and gonna take it to my local auto eletrical garage to get the rest done! There is an upside to this though! There seems to be white noise coming from the two speakers behind the seats since i disconnected the old stereo. I had previously thought that there were not any speakers in there because no sound came from them when i had the old cd player installed (despite checking fader settings etc). So im assuming either the old cd player wasnt connected properly or it didnt support more than 2 speakers?!? I'm assuming it wont be too big a job for an auto electrician to put the "exposed" wires into an appropriate connector and convert the other connector to fit into the JVC?
  24. I just added this mod to my silver Z, it brightens up the otherwise dull looking vent pretty well. All in all for the 8 bucks it cost me from Halfords i think its well worth it.
  25. Ok so if i press both of these down it should be easy enough just to pull them out? Sounds like a 2 person job to me, will maybe give it another go tonight.
