  1. One of the plugs had 2 black things on each side which seemed to move up and down. Are these what your talking about? The other plug didnt have any of these....
  2. I took delivery of the DVD player today and had a go at attempting to install it myself.... I managed to remove the front panel and unscrew the harness to get the old tape/cd player out but i couldnt get the wiring out of the old CD player!!! I pulled as hard as i could but they wouldnt budge, has anyone ever come across this on a JDM? I may have to bite the bullet and take it to an ICE specialist to install it if noone can tell me how the wiring unplugs....
  3. Has anyone successfully removed the air bag warning stickers on the sun visors of their JDM? They look pretty well stuck on and i dont want to pull to hard on them if it should leave a mess behind it. I followed the advice in the modifications thread about buying visor covers from www.zeetoys.com but they dont quite cover the stickers. Cheers
  4. I used to have a Sony MP3 cd player in my old car so kinda got used to having a whole load of music on the 1 cd. When i got my Z it was a pain having to keep swapping CD's in and out so i looked at hooking an IPOD up to it, but i didnt hear good things about the FM links so rejected that idea. When i came across the JVC on a website and read about it playing 8+ GB of MP3's from a DVD it was too good to resist at that price! It has had good reviews for its sound quality too which i found to be pretty poor on the standard Z headunit. How do the stock speakers sound with new headunits??
  5. I ordered the head unit from Dixons for 299 including postage using a promotion code i found online, if anyone wants 20 bucks off a dixons order enter "ONLINE20" in the promotion code box! Once everything arrives i'll have a go at installing it!
  6. Thanks for all your help its much appreciated! Now i just need to find a good deal on the headunit i'm after!
  7. I had a read of the instructions provided with the Metra Harness and it seems to be relatively straightforward to take the old headunit out and put the new one in. So long as the PC2-72-4 ISO adaptor is the correct one i should just about manage it myself???
  8. Am i right in saying i would need to buy a Metra harness like.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1 which i could attach the headunit to and slot into the space, and use an ISO adapter like... http://www.bluespot.co.uk/install/show_model.asp?id=348 to attach the headunit to the internal wiring?
  9. do you know of anywhere i can get a 1 DIN convertor?
  10. Thanks for the quick reply, im more interested in the ability to play mp3's via a DVD than film playback so what you mention wouldnt put me off. The section it would be fitted in is 2 DIN and I had a suspicion it would be beyond Halfords! If i sourced the unit myself what would do you think would be an average cost you would expect a reputable ICE dealer to install it for ( as i think doing it myself would be a recipe for disaster!). Cheers
  11. I bought a JDM a few weeks back and it only has a bog standard cd/tape player (non bose). I am getting no sound from the speakers behind the seats (i'm not quite sure if there are even any speakers in the enclosures at all, i will need to look). I was looking at the JVC KD-AVX1 http://jvcmobile.co.uk/product.php?pr=46 and was wondering if anyone has any experience of this, what it sounds like and how much of a job it was to get it installed? Halfords offer free instore fitting of this unit, do you think they would balk at having to fit it into a 350z and should i even trust them in the first place or look to go to an audio specialist? Thanks
  12. sorry for taking so long to reply, i only just got my car today!! here is the photo of the headunit. will it be easy enough to add a cd changer to this and if so which would you recommend? i'm not looking to spend a great deal on it. thanks for any help.
  13. Its not a brand new model, I read that its only the 06 model HU which plays MP3s?!? The dealer said he would convert the radio for me as part of the deal so im assuming its a jap HU. I never looked closely at the speakers, i dont think there is a woofer there. From what i remember there are just 2 fairly big main speakers behind each seat. I should have looked more closely! Where does the CD changer sit as standard and might there be a ready made connecter at that location that i can just plug one into? If such a connector didnt exist i would probably just fit a new MP3 headunit into the dash. Thanks again for your help.
  14. I'm due to pick up my imported 350z in 2 weeks time, as you can imagine i can barely wait! The car has a single cd player (it has cd changer control written on it). Can i easily add a cd changer to the current setup or do you think i would be better off replacing the whole thing with an MP3 CD player? I never took a CD with me when i checked over the car as i was more concerned with the body work/engine etc etc. Are the basic speakers any good or should i look to replace them at the same time? Thanks for any help
