  1. Hi Had both my front bearings replaced a few months ago. I have a 53 JDM and the bearings of UK 350z are exactly the same as my JDM, not to sure about the 52, but I'd say they are the same. Dealer added an extra £30 per bearing when my garage ordered them saying they had to be imported! I told the my garage to check the item number they had on the packaging and this number was the same as UK item number for bearings. Guys at garage I use rang dealer and told them they wanted the £60 (30 each) as they were not imported at all and were in fact the UK bearings. Dealer had the cheek to say that, because my car is an import, they can charge what they like!! Needless to say, my garage got their money back after they said they'd get in touch with Nissan GB! If I were you I'd try and find the item number for bearings on your 52 model and check it against the UK version. I'm sure you'll find they are the same. Dont let the dealer get away with charging you more just because you have an import. Cheers Josh
  2. You might want to try the Road Pilot. http://www.roadpilot.com/roadpilot.asp I have the RoadPilot Micro mounted on the dash to the righthand side of my steering wheel. Its very small and unobtusive.
  3. Yep Thats right Rob, complete assembly. Josh
  4. Well, just rang a few Nissan Parts departments this morning and it seems the price is correct!!! Part No. 40202AL510 (UK Model) - £190.81 incl. VAT Still not sure if JDM is different to UK though. Cheers Josh
  5. Cheers Guys Looks like I'll have to do some ringing around this weekend. Josh
  6. Hi Just took my 2003 import in for it's first MOT today. Unfortunately it failed due to excessive play on the front off side wheel bearing. Anyway, I decided I may as well have both FNS and FOS replaced at the same time. (would be just my luck if the near side went in a few months!!) The Garage phoned Nissan to order the bearings in, and guess what?, as soon as he mentioned it's an Import the guy from Nissan gave a sharp intake of breath!! I'm being told the bearings cannot be adjusted/tightened and a whole wheel hub unit has to be replaced. Is this correct? Does anyone know if there is a difference between the UK and JDM spec bearings? the guy from Nissan says they are slightly different and says he can source the JDM type but are £50.00 more!! £250 each as apposed to £200 each. I find it funny, having dealt with Nissan dealers before, that this guy can source Japanese parts so quickly. Is anyone else as cynical as me and thinks this guy is just trying to make a quick buck? or are the bearings for UK and JDM different? The parts are being delivered Tuesday and would be good to be able to inform my garage before they arrive, if there is no difference at least they can try and get them at the cheaper price for me. Any help would be much appeciated. Cheers Josh
  7. Hi I have a 2003 JDM and have been told by several dealers that they cannot read anything off my car with the consult II software they have because it only read european models!! Can anyone tell me if this is true and has anyone with a JDM been able to find a dealer that can reset error codes. My particular problem is my immobiliser has thrown up an error and the red LED on the dash that flashes to show the immobiliser is set now stays on constantly. The car starts perfectly and there is no malfunction (apart from the LED!!) From reading the maintenance manual (US Spec I think), it seems this can happen with the NATS. I can find one error - Chain of ECM-IMMU code P1612. The manual says:- Communication impossible between ECM and BCM (NATS control unit)In rare case, “CHAIN OF ECM-IMMUâ€
  8. Hi all I was hoping someone would be able to list what is actually carried out during a P1, P2 and P3 Service. My JDM is due for a P2 service and was hoping to use my friendly independent garage rather than a main dealer and wanted to tell him what Nissan would provide at each service interval. I have tried searching without much luck, so it anyone could list the relevant items performed in each service I would be grateful. Cheers Josh
  9. Hi Andy Yes it is just an Immobiliser, as far as I know!!. Is there a way to bypass the NATS then and still have no problems starting the car? I just assumed that it was all linked back to the ECU, if you don't have the key or NATS malfunctions, the car won't start. Like you say, there is no real need to have the factory immobiliser, I just didn't realise there was a way to bypass it without having problems reading the key to start the car. cheers
  10. Andy Not sure I can just get rid of factory immobiliser!! Isn't all the immobiliser/security linked via the chip in the Key? NATS system. The LED being on continuously indicates a malfunction in the NATS system, as you say, it could be something and nothing. The Clifford Alarm I have fitted does include an immobilser. Cheers Josh
  11. Cheers Andy Yeah, the Clifford has a seperate LED, all seems to be working fine with the alarm system! I spoke to the guy from Clifford that fitted my alarm this morning and he said the only way the immobiliser LED staying on would have anything to do with the Clifford Alarm is if I had Remote Start fitted (which I don't). It definately seems a problem with the cars immobiliser. As I say, it's not a great problem having the LED stay on, just worried that one day the system wont read the key. Do you think I should disconnect the battery? this may reset the ECU / Immobiliser. Josh
  12. Hi Was hoping someone might be able to help me with a strange problem that began tonight. After getting into my car tonight (JDM), I noticed the immobiliser LED was on constantly and stayed on, even when the car was started. It is still on solid now, not flashing as it usually does. Having realised about six month ago that being an import, it didn't have an alarm, I had a Clifford Intelliguard 950 alarm system fitted. Up until now the red LED on the dashboard flashed whenever the car was turned off. Having read a PDF version of the handbook (US Version I think), although I assume this is generic for a 350z's, it says: Security indicator light This light blinks whenever the ignition switch is in the LOCK, OFF or ACC position. This function indicates the security system equipped on the vehicle is operational. If the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System is malfunctioning, this light will remain on while the ignition key is in the ON position. If the light still remains on and/or the engine will not start, see your NISSAN dealer for Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System service as soon as possible. Please bring all Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System keys that you have when visiting your NISSAN dealer for service. I have no problem starting the car and I assumed having the alarm system (which includes an immobiliser) fitted this by-passed the factory immobiliser. Can anyone shed any light on this problem? is there any way to reset the immobiliser? and probably more important, will it progress to a point where I will not be able to start the car? I was going to have the car serviced in the next couple of weeks anyway, so can get them to look at it, but would anyone know if I should get it seen too sooner? I'm assuming the LED doesn't draw that much current, so won't have a flat battery in the near future. But its just a bit annoying having a Red light reflexing on the windscreen in the dark. Any help would be much appreciated, especially if anyone knows of a way to reset the immobiliser. Cheers Josh.

    Security

Hi All Just thought I'd ask some advise. I will be going on holiday soon and am getting paranoid about my Z sitting on the drive all alone! I wanted to be extra sure it's waiting for me when I get home and was wondering if anyone has any advise as to how I can make it extra secure. I do have a Thatcham approved alarm and immobiliser system fitted and will be leaving the keys at another address, but is there anything else I can do? Was thinking of disconnecting something within the engine bay, any ideas? Any reasonable suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers.
  14. Welcome to the exclusive club!! Josh Not so Exlusive anymore though
  15. OK Nikos We give up!!! All sitting here at work trying to figure it out and just want to know the answer now! Come on, put us out of our misery! Please!!!!
  16. I use Silvo Silver Polish as recommended by Miltek!! How do I clean my stainless steel tailpipes without scratching or damaging them? A. Unfortunately, soot is a fact of life and as our tailpipes are made from the highest quality polished stainless steel, we have found that the best way to clean them is to use a Silver Polish. The actual specific product we use is called Silvo Silver Polish with Wadding. It's important to get the one with the wadding inside as it's really good at getting it clean. Clean the bulk of the soot off the surface with an old rag first and then use the polish/wadding to get your tailpipe(s) sparkling again.
  17. Look forward to seeing what results you get with the UTEC. Cheers
  18. Hi Was Just wondering if anyone has made similar mods to mine and have dyno readings that show an increase/decrease in performance. Anyone installed a Plenum spacer or Kinetix Plenum and had the car on a dyno to check results of modification? Or installed a Nismo CAI and had car tuned? I would be very interested to hear other peoples experiences with these mods as this will give me an Idea as to which way I go from here. I think I will probably try refitting the stock air intake in the future, this would at least give some clues to whether the AAM Angled Plenum actually has a positive or negitive effect. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Graham.
  19. Hi Here are the Dyno's for anyone thats interested. Graham
  20. Thanks for the reply Dorian Sam at TDI did say he wouldn't be able to do much up to 4K and I'm sure Mark will be able to help with the Air-Fuel ratio plots for the two runs when he gets the chance. As for the amount of data points, I have only been able to add the engine speed points that where on the Certificate of Performance that I got from TDI, although they did start at 1500 this time as apposed to 2000 on the inital run in Feb. My main concern now is whether I keep the Plenum and Intake on the car or remove them, seeing as there is no gain over the exhaust figures. Do you think the Intake and Exhaust may be working against eachother? (sorry if I'm talking S*** here, as I say, not really that knowledgeable when it comes to tuning) I must admit, I was hoping for a gain when exhaust was put on (which I seem to have) and thought adding the Plenum + CAI would give me some sort of gain over that. This makes me wonder if some people that have added a Plenum spacer or CAI and say they have felt an increase in torque just imagine it's faster or it may be that the car just feels a little more responsive! Especially as there needed to be quite a bit of remapping done on mine to get it back up to the figures before they were installed. Thanks for reply, hopefully Mark will be able to give you a far more experienced view on the runs. P.S. At about 2000k in first gear I'm now getting what I can only describe as a fluttering in the engine note! Haven't had time to really check this out but It may be the Plenum vibrating on the strut bar. There was only about 2mm gap between the two.
  21. Hi Spent the day at TDI yesterday having my AAM Plenum and Nismo CAI fitted. Mark wasn't there but Sam and the other boys were very helpful. The day started with a Dyno, I had a Milltek exhaust fitted a few weeks ago and we wanted to get some figures before the Plenum and Cold Air Intake were fitted. Once the Parts were fitted another dyno was taken. I won't pretend to know much about engine tuning and I'm sure Mark will be posting the figures on here soon. The day started well, the first Dyno figures with just Exhaust fitted showed an increase in Corrected Power and Torque over the original figures I had done in February when the F-Con SZ was fitted. However, once the Plenum and CAI were fitted I wasn't so happy! The figure were well down!!! Sam did a remap on the F-Con SZ and managed the smooth the figures out but this only brought it back within the figures with just the exhaust mod. It seems that adding the Plenum and CAI had no effect on Power or Torque, it certainly didn't increase them!! The Nismo CAI is mounted behind the Headlight within the wheelwell and I know the boys at TDI where a bit concerned that it had no real air flow around it. It did, however, reduce the internal air temp from 24 deg C to 19 deg C. Here are the Max figures: (measured at [1/min]) With F-Con SZ fitted. Max Power [met hp] 253.2 @ 6035 Engine speed. Man Torque [lb-ft] 243 @ 4525 Engine speed. With F-Con SZ and exhaust fitted. Max Power [met hp] 254.1 @ 6054 Engine speed. Man Torque [lb-ft] 250 @ 4542 Engine speed. With F-Con SZ, exhaust, AAM Plenum and Nismo CAI fitted. (these figures are after remap) Max Power [met hp] 252.4 @ 6058 Engine speed. Man Torque [lb-ft] 244 @ 4536 Engine speed. I'm not sure if you can acurately do this! but I have correlated all the figures taken to match the Engine Speed of the first run taken in February and produced Graphs for Corrected Power and Corrected Torque. This does at least show whats happening when engine speed was the same. I have attached the graphs anyway, so people can see. Until Mark has the time to uploads the Dyno graphs I think these are a good indication of whats going on. It's disapointing that having the Plenum and CAI fitted seems to have no real positive effect, especially after having them shipped from USA and fitting, seems an expensive error now!! (lot of money just to increase the engine note)!! Maybe the more technically minded of you might be able to gleen something from this and let me know. I was wondering if I should have a chat with someone at Milltek? was thinking that they probably developed their exhaust on a stock UK 350z (mines JDM). Would the addition of CAI have an effect on exhaust design? I'm sure it does but would be intresting to see what Milltek think. Anyone think this would be worth doing? When Mark has a chance to read over the figures he'll probably be able to let you know more about this than me, but in the meantime, if anyone has any thoughts as to why there has been no increase I'd be intrested to hear your views. Thanks again to Sam and the boys at TDI, it was a very intresting day even though I didn't leave as happy as I thought I would be!! Regards Graham.
  22. Hi Mark Sorry to hear you won't be there on Saturday when I bring the car in. I have no problems with you posting the results on your web site for everyone here to see. You should already have the figures from stock, and figures after you fitted the F-Con. Having had the Milltek exhaust fitted, and with you fitting the AAM angled Plenum and Nismo CAI on Saturday, it will be intresting to see what gains we achive. Graham.
  23. Yep Just tried the other key I was given and that seems to work. Must mean either the lock or ignition was changed at some point. Josh
  24. M13KYF Thought of that. Went round to the passanger door and 'lo and behold' there is no lock on that door!! I was given 2 keys when I picked up the car, just assumed one was a spare as it doesn't have the central locking buttons on it, but will try it when I get home. Had the same problem when I had to change the locks on my previous car.
