  1. I very much agree with Ricky. I love this place even if I don't agree with everyone's views. The banter is light hearted and it lacks the overzealous moderation on other sites. One noticeable thing is that newbies don't get flamed for asking the "old" questions and if they are reminded of the search function its in a light hearted way - not the case on other forums. Hopefully it means this isn't an intimidating place for new folk. I used to post on www.mini2.com which was also a pretty pleasant place to be but a bit more cliquey. I suspect that any forum where there are a hardcore of regulars could appear cliquey at first but its how those regulars interact with others that matters and I'd say we're a pretty friendly bunch. No complaints.
  2. Dymags off the Ascari.
  3. You forgot Enkei, mate! Interesting what you say about the NEC. A couple of months back EVO did a bit on the new Ascari which had carbon fibre rims by Dymag. They looked the business and were probably light as air. I think they were 19" but had a racing style central lug so anyone buying for their Zed would need new hubs.
  4. I'd say they'd have to manufacture for Formula One teams, at the very least.
  5. It's all down to cheapo seats IMO......
  6. I hear everything you say which is sound in theory but plenty of folk, especially the kids in the US, fit the brands that have been mentioned above and I'm pleased to say that (with the exception of the alleged "bad batch" of Axis Hiros) there doesn't seem to be any real evidence of failures of so-called cheap wheels. As for longevity of finish there seem to be as many complaints of corrosion etc on Rays/Volks as there are of cheaper companies. I would certainly suggest being very cautious of makes that you might not have heard of but someone like TSW has been around for years without garnering any adverse reputation that I am aware of.
  7. Whoa! Are Superleggera III's really that heavy???? That site's corking. Interesting to see that the Axis Hiros I was after are made of lead and Antera have clearly found a substance that is heavier than lead to make their wheels (sorry Liam, mate ) Worth keeping the thread open for that alone.
  8. Sorry Val I just couldnt resist!! WEIGHT? PIAA SUPERROZZA 19" WEIGHT 11.8 KG TSW THRUXTON 19" WEIGHT 12.5 KG DIFFERENCE 0.7KG http://www.wheelweights.net/?af926ee8 LOOKS? PRICE? PIAA SUPERROZZA 18" £1,750 IIRC TSW THRUXTON 19" £640 DELIVERED DIFFERENCE SAVED £1,110 PINTS OF CARLING BOUGHT WITH £1,100 = APPRX 485 PINTS THATS APPRX 2 YEARS OF FREE DRINKING EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Very interesting weight site. Apparently my 9" fronts weigh 9.89kg and 10" rears 10.48kg. Not bad for 19" cast and on a par with Volk Progressiv MEs which are forged. Obviously they will shatter into a million shards at the first pothole though.
  9. Probably the most sensible comment on this thread, Dorian. If weight and ultimate strength had been my only interest when buying rims I would have bought 18" forged. However, my primary objective was aesthetics (wheels that I like, not anyone else) and durability as there was no possibility of me wanting winter and summer wheels and I drive my car every day (hence I didn't want a lip). I would have liked Volks Progressiv TEs but there was no way the budget would stretch. I did my research and came up with an informed decision. I was well aware that they were expensive for cast wheels but they fitted my criteria perfectly and were from a reputable manufacturer behind many OEM wheels. Thus to me they are worth what I paid for them. Others like Rickya, Max or Lomoto also made informed choices based upon their own criteria, price being one. If the spokes bend or snap because I didn't buy forged I will be the first to post here as a warning to others. However, I don't see a ton of posts on this or the other Zeds sites complaining that their cast wheels have buckled in normal driving.

    wheel offset

Your wheels are sweet, mate. Post some pics here to give the lad an idea.
  11. I'm afraid Tim's right. Everyone's entitled to their views but sometimes tongues should be bitten to avoid causing offence. We are all supposed to be friends on here. If my friend buys a Proton and is delighted with it I don't spend half an hour tellng him its sh*t just because I wouldn't be seen dead in one. It fits his requirements and he is happy. I don't want to **** on his parade. If I can't say anything nice I don't say anthing at all. Tact.
  12. Or another thread When mine are fitted and I'm happy I may share some of my earlier tales of woe.
  13. Welcome aboard! Strange - all of a sudden there seem to be more Chillis around.....
  14. The Ruff are the nicer design (I did order a set myself but that's another story) but I believe the Axis wheels to be better quality from both what I've read on the Yank forums and from the guy who I took delivery of my Axis wheels (another story ).
  15. Why's that, mate? Its just that many sports cars tend not to go over 225 or 235 on the front as this can create a little bit of understeer due to larger wider footprint. IMO the zeds steering is perfect with 225 it comes with up front. Since fitting 245 the front wheels just seem a tiny weeny bit numb when turning the wheel IMO. I prefer a more point & shoot, sharp turn in that IMO 225 /235 would give you a little more of. Also going 235 will stiffen the sidewalls more than 245. Its one of the reasons why the Vauxhall Vx220 has such amazing precise handling is due in part to its very skinny front tyres. Makes sense.
  16. Looking good, Ricky! Now get it cleaned and let us see the on car pics.
