  1. Because a good replacement is well over a grand, some even advertised at £2k and then there's no guarantee what your buying is going to be any good, and you just end up in the same boat. CD009's are rarer than chicken teeth and if you can find one then again it's stupid money. At least with a rebuild with new parts I'll know it'll be good to go and currently coming in at under £700 Ive been to a factory where they rebuild the VW/Audi ones, its like a work of art, dont nissan aftermarket have something similar in UK? I.e bring yours in and take away theirs? Makes sense rebuilding it yourself! I found one or two independent companies that will give you a fully rebuilt box on an exchange basis......I just wasn't keen on spending £3k! Would work out cheaper to order a brand new box from the states but with import duty and delivery you'd still be looking circa £2k. Tbh from what I've read the boxes themselves are very strong, it's just the syncros that are made of chocolate. So for £242 delivered from CZP for 3rd,4th, 5th and 6th syncros plus £410 Inc vat to strip and replace said synchros works out the most cost effective! Did I mention Nissan UK wanted over £200 for one synchromesh?! Wtf??
  2. Whatever you look at, check the gear changes are smooth, especially 5th and 6th gear. Seems pre 2006 synchros are made of chocolate 😕
  3. Cheers dude, I'll add them to my list of favourite shops

  5. So, having decided to rebuild my gearbox and having a stooooopid quote from Nissan UK for synchro's (£209 just for 2nd gear synchromesh) I went to Concept Z in the US of A! Prices are good: for 3rd,4th, 5th and 6th synchro's (genuine nissan) came to £200.76 Just waiting on shipping quote. I'll keep y'all updated on their service but looking good so far Chris
  6. Ah, it sold some time ago. Back to the drawing board
  7. Awsome! Thanks for the info (",)
  8. So I've decided a rebuild of the gearbox is the way ahead....mostly because I'm not paying 2k for a used 'box! Just got a quote from Nissan for replacement baulk rings (2nd through to 6th) coming to nearly £600. I nearly spat my coffee out! Wtf Nissan?! From the states I can get the lot including reverse for a smidge over £200 £350+vat to do the work. Unless anyone happens to have a spare CD009 box hanging around??
  9. Did you strip the box down then?
  10. Ah cool, so the brace isn't a big issue! The gearbox is fine when driving like Miss Daisy, but when driven hard, with fast changes there's a definite crunch between 4th - 5th and 5th - 6th, which is more of an annoyance than anything. I'm not sure how strong these boxes are and whether or not it'll go on forever like this or if I need to start the stopwatch on impending gearbox destruction?!
  11. I've had my 350z for just over a week and noticed a few worrying things: First up is the gearbox, which under normal conditions is fine but when driven hard as a bit graunchy 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th. I've just changed out the gearbox oil, which I'd say has probably never been changed by the looks of it and had a fair amount of gold colour metal flakes in it. Put some moly slip in with the new gearbox oil, but it's made no difference. From the research I've done this seems to be a fairly common issue. What's my options with this? Second issue is going through the mot's I got with the car, it seems it failed its latest mother initially on centre suspension mount excessively corroded, which I think is this bit: Doesn't look like anythings been done to it so not sure how it passed it's retest :/ I'd like to replace this bit but no idea what it's called? Feeling a bit stupid for not checking closer before buying and more that a bit hacked off!!
  12. Sounds good to me....where abouts are you?
  13. Thread hijack! I might be interested.... Previous owner installed some carbon fibre air intakes in the bumper that I'd like to lose and seems easier to change out bumpers rather than pay a body shop to fill and paint!
  14. Appreciated......just hoping to avoid paying circa £500 for a new pair : (
  15. Any brand as long as they're in usable condition and will get me through MOTs! Cheers!
  16. Thanks for the info guys...I'll look into it
  17. Lol its a healthy engine mate, with enough beans to keep on the tail lights of my son's FRS Mildly modded RS then? Just sold my 350hp mk1 RS,and much as I love my new 350Z, it's not a patch on my RS for outright speed. Sorry.....thread hijacked
  18. Doing a fortnight tour of Europe in August on my Honda Super Blackbird! Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy.... skip Italy and go Austria>Slovenia>Croatia then loop back. Croatia is stunning, cheap compared to Italy and don't even get me started on the women... Did a 2 week tour with friends out to Bosnia and back on bikes last summer and it was absolutely epic. We did France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Rep then back to the ferry in Belgium Gotta do Italy as my girlfriends Italian, so we're dropping in on the outlaws in Florence...or Firenze as she keeps reminding me it should be called. Going back through Switzerland, specifically to do the Gotthard Pass as seen in Top Gear

  20. I'm in need of your floor carpets...specifically the passenger side if you wanted to split. Seems the previous owner spilled some rubberized glue that I cannot remove! Can you post at all?
  21. Seems about right. I just paid £5850 for an 04 with GT pack @ 73k miles
  22. Nice drive from Southampton to Dover, channel ferry across then as you say, a short stint into Belgium. Best thing is the other half has no idea where we're going lol Can't wait to see her face when we arrive at Dover port! Note to self: mustn't forget to take her passport!
  23. I've just sold my Focus RS mk1 after four years of ownership and bought a Zed. Loved my mk1, running just over 350bhp and imo, a much better car than the mk2 RS. I've driven a mk2 and found it heavier and slower than the mk1, but a bit more refined. My mk1 RS was definitely much quicker and a more involved drive. And then there's the looks....covered in superglue and ram raided Halfrauds Ripspeed body kit section Comparing it the the 350? As as been said, it's like comparing chalk and cheese as there's really no basis for comparison. The RS will be quicker over all but you'll have more fun in the 350. That said, I'd have a mk2 RS in my fantasy garage line up!
