  1. You need to get a proper reading of your pressures when the car is hot and idling and again @2000rpm to know whether gaskets are shot.

Has your car every had a single mass flywheel fitted as this can cause low down chatter noise from the transmission which may well be the rattle you can hear ! If not it will most probably be the heat shield.

I'm in Hull and if I don't work on my own car I take it to JapTech they are spot on and only do what needs doing if you get my jist.

  2. When I first started driving RWD cars my Mrs bought me a drift day with a company called L2D (Learn 2 Drift) it was good as you learnt how to control what is essentially an out of control vehicle, then I done a few trackdays. Experience is everything, I don't use track insurance but just stay cautious around other drivers instead. You can't buy a Z and not do a trackday in it they are a proper weapon on track if set up correctly even standard !

  3. **** you need to learn how to drive never hover over the brakes mid corner, if you hit them the car will just spin !!! Brake before the corner get it into the right gear and keep a smooth throttle throughout the bend feeding in more throttle as your exiting the bend and gaining more grip. And for the life of me take the TCS off the LSD gives you plenty of feel to know when to lift slightly if the car is going to oversteer.

Go and do a trackday that's your best bet you will learn @*!# loads from it.

  4. If your bored go and do a trackday in it to unlock the Z's true potential, hate people talking about performance figures nowadays especially 0-60mph anyone can put their foot down and go fast in a straight line in my opinion.

Z is perfect for track, RWD, 50/50 distribution and fairly powerful, in my opinion it's by far the best & easiest way to have fun. If your worried about crashing on track just keep ESP on.

Mini as a daily is literally suicide even if done properly you are always fighting with rot & corrosion plus they aren't the most reliable car in the world.

  5. Not had my car mapped but owned a ZX6R which I went to town on, bought a full titanium exhaust, K&N and Dyno jet power commander 3 usb, had it fully mapped on a rolling road and gained 12 bhp at the wheel, after the map it was 122 bhp at the wheel.

Bike weighed 160kg and only thing I noticed was slightly and I mean slightly better mid range. Reckon an Uprev gaining you 12-15 bhp at best with a catback exhaust on a car that weighs circa 1500kgs is absolutely pointless your never gonna feel a difference in my opinion. My two cents anyway.

  6. I've gone from bikes to cars and it's probably the wrong way to go because nothing feels fast anymore ! I think my Z feels flat in comparison, if I ever ditch the Z I will buy a little runabout & trackbike and just do trackdays like I used to, riding on roads is pretty naf aswell tbh after riding on track !

  7. I've mounted mine with the 3M sticky mount right next to my rear view mirror so it's discreet and out of the way, the Gopro hangs upside down but you can invert the image so it's the correct way up in the settings.

Still slightly nervous using the suction cup on the outside of the car though !

  8. Seriously thinking of buying one of these, does it get rid of the top speed limiter & limits through the first few gears ?

Is it easy to fit and where are you all putting the box as I would rather it was concealed/out of view ?

Last question is it compatible with the HR ?

  9. Well not too bad, I got a cheque from car warranty company and they covered £600 worth of parts & labour, better than a kick in the balls I suppose. Car feels soooo much better now the work has been done, just need to find an exhaust that doesn't drone and I will be happy with it.

  10. Tempted to go back to stock backbox but get a custom y-pipe, mid-pipe and scrap the resonator for a bit more sound. Not bothered about power tbh as you gain very little from a catback just want a slightly better sound and no drone !

  11. Had a look at dozens of pics of both the Ark & Invidia, I would sway more to the Invidia as I like the rolled tips a lot better not keen on burnt tips but each to their own.

Had a quote from Topgear in Doncaster who are really reputable for custom exhausts who quoted £700 for a catback and said they could get the sound exactly how I want it ! Not 100% sure what to do tbh

Any reason not to go custom ?

  12. Miltek maybe.....

I have thought about the Milltek but people on this forum have said it's quieter than the stock exhaust unless it's coupled with HFC which I don't intend on doing !

  13. So recently purchased a Cobra y-pipe back resonated exhaust, love the sound in & around town and when your WOT but hate the drone at motorway speeds 70-80mph especially when climbing hills it echoes around the cabin and sounds horrendous.

So question is what exhaust makes the same kind of note as the Cobra at WOT but is drone free and I mean no drone at all I can't live with it ? Live in Hull if anyone is nearby to have a listen to their exhaust, any good suggestions ?

  14. Seems like it's the vast majority of owners that have experienced the good/bad like myself. It's ashame because I feel it's kind of tainted the experience of ownership slightly, well let's put it this way if I knew I would have had all the issues I've had I wouldn't have bothered buying a Z.

Never for a moment thought it would be cheap to run and I always keep money to one side incase things go wrong but almost 3k in 7-8 months of ownership! Could have bought a decent little car for that !

Next owner will be laughing their tits off when they buy mine because I've literally done all of the expensive work for them. Sods law.

  15. Go down the thread list in General and read "Love Hate Relationship" thread I started have a read, look at my before/after pressures and work done etc. I personally think your pressure is low but phone Abbey or Horsham and they will explain more think your on the brink of needing gallery gaskets changed and it certainly ain't cheap !

  16. Bare with me on this, purchased an HR 350z from a dealer in December with full service history which included literally ever receipt for any job big or small that had been done, only 54k miles and in almost mint condition, all of the above attracted me to the car.

So a few weeks in I noticed that going into 1st gear was a bit knotchey so decided to change the gearbox & diff oil which cured the problem, still not the best transmission I have come across in a car but I can now live with it, feels much smoother.

Another job on cards noticed the exhaust had a slight blow which was annoying me as I am very OCD so off it came and in place went a resonated Cobra, not bad for driving around town but get on a motorway at 70mph it drones horribly and climbing hills makes it worse. I have slowly adjusted to this after driving 3k miles across Europe!

So I added some HKS panel filters as the old filters were slightly dirty, thought the car started to feel sluggish & jerky to drive which was annoying but this wasn't down to the filters !!!

Read a couple of threads on the forum about gallery gaskets and oil pressure which unfortunately for me, yep oil pressure at 15psi on hot idle and after Europe trip driving 3k miles it was 12psi. So gallery gaskets changed and when I say the old gaskets were blown out I mean blown to a pulp ! New pressure 28psi on hot idle difference night & day no more jerky driving and car pulls much better so happy chappy.

Few days later driving along as normal I let the clutch out at low speed and the car jolted forward ! Checked clutch fluid, nothing in the pot (I check this weekly along with all other fluids) so only thing I can pin it to is the CSC, here we go again ! Ordered the Xtreme HR kit from Clark Motorsport, gearbox out and the csc was leaking every time the clutch was pressed but not only that it was spraying onto the friction plate. So out with the old in with the new.

So lighter flywheel made the engine rev more free but you get a little bit og chatter at 1500rpm but I can live with that, clutch pedal feels stiffer but my lack of training legs at the gym might be part of this problem who knows !

So in 7 months of ownership I reckon I won't have a lot of change out of 3k for everything that has been done to the car ! A lot yes but what else can possibly go wrong ?

Luckily have a year's warranty but doesn't cover wear & tear so I'm getting a bit back for some of the above work.

Just waiting for the next thing to go wrong.....
