  1. I'm one of those people to whom politics means nothing.

    Disillusioned.

It's like, how do you want to be executed? Bullet to the brain or guillotine?

    Same end result.

The little man should still invest in lots of desensitising anal lube.

I can understand being disillusioned with politics, but bear in mind that this country still has a very high standard of living and good opportunities. The important thing at this stage is to make sure it stays that way...

  2. Well surely if you tax cigarettes for being unhealthy, in principal the same should apply to other unhealthy stuff. End of the day, if you're sensible and don't consume these things all the time then it won't put a huge dent in your wallet.

The alternative is just to not treat people who are responsible for their ailments, but then where do you draw the line?

  3. Yeah mate you are. Unions aren't just there to protect you from unfair dismissal. They fight for better pay, conditions, keeping decent pension schemes open etc.

Fight for better, or fight for the same pay and conditions as originally available but have subsequently declined? Striking because you decide that you don't like your job (even though it hasn't changed) is ridiculous. It does help unions to justify their existence though ;)

  4. Dianne Abbot is a car crash in any media event she attends, it really is unbelievable someone can be employed and be so bad at their job!

To be fair, I come across people who are rubbish at their jobs on a daily basis.

Rather a till girl than a call girl :scare:

    You're a sick man :p

  5. I've been saying for years all drugs should be legalised regulated and taxed. As for the supply chain well that's another bonus, why, well it legitimises a currently criminal enterprise and makes it a legit business.

The war on drugs is a phallacy, a waste of time and money that achieves nothing but criminalising otherwise law abiding citizens and clogging up our legal and reform systems.

The tax gained would help to pay for all sorts of things from the NHS to quit programs.

Prohibition just doesn't work at all, the US found this out when banning alcohol all those years ago.

One of the biggest problems aside from smoking over here is alcohol. Will they try to ban that, of course not. Just because something is socially and culturally accepted that makes it ok does it.

Drugs have been vilified for absolutely no reason and criminalising it has made it worse without question.

No, but that doesn't mean that you should then make everything else that's not okay legal as well ;)

  6. Yeah but you can't say you'd be happy about your local convenience store selling heroin just because no humans were harmed in the production of it, surely?

I think it would be political suicide for any politician to propose legalising any drugs - I just can't see that many people being in favour.

  7. Smoking is demonised, no doubt. All the criticisms of it are true, but they're equally true about other things (alcohol being the prime example).

Stu I disagree with your point about not running a country like a business. You can only borrow more and more for so long before it gets you into trouble, unless you think that ending up like Greece is a desirable outcome.

  8. Also on the US forums they mentioned that after the viscous tears, which it does over time, it's basically like driving without a diff.

    Their words.

Which I'm guessing means like driving with an open diff. If there was no diff then it wouldn't go anywhere...

  9. No politician will ever have the balls to make drastic reform the NHS, there is simply too much at stake

Well hopefully someone in power will see the light before it's too late. As Dan said though, it would probably be too much for voters to stomach, which would lead to...

The system will collapse, its not if, simply when

And then change would be forced.

You also cannot run an acute hospital like a shop/business

I don't think anyone suggested that.

  10. I think with organisations like the NHS though they do need to get someone in who knows what they're doing to sort it out / run it if things are going to get better. Someone ruthless and skilled enough to reorganise it into something that works properly, but willing to do it for the interests of the country rather than their own financial interests (I'm thinking a successful businessperson of some description).

Absolutely agree 100%. This is why I think we should pay our MPs significantly more than we do, get the big business owners with a proven track record interested in helping run the country. Stop this faffing around, it's the most important job in the country so we should pay a proper wage.

    Trump for PM ?

I was thinking more along the lines of Michael Bloomberg :p
