After much thought and mind changing I can confirm that the z stays for another year í ½í¸, the fear of an £8k rebuild has put me off. I have decided to wait another year and look for a newer model. Thanks for all the comments and information. I will make the most of another summer with a convertible and hope the sun shines.
Still temped. It may be more sensible to wait a year and get a gen 2 ? I have tried to stop looking for the fast few days but I keep picking up the iPad and viewing.
On a review on autocar it says "A tiny minority of Gen 1 S 3.4s suffered bore scoring, caused by liners being to thin and inefficient cooling of cylinders five and six"
Every used car is a risk and not sure if I should let it put me off.
Thanks for the link marzman to all the troubles Adrian had. It has put me off to a degree but surely they can't all suffer the same issues.
Every old car is a gamble but I guess the possible lossses on this is a major concern. I will have to check what the 6 month warranty covers.
Sooo tempted. It's a Cayman S, 2006 58,000 miles at £15,000 (12 months mot, full service history)
Looks in great condition but not sure if there are hidden negatives
Love the roadster in the summer but sometimes regret it in the winter. Great looking cars for the price but that also means you never get the money back you have spent on it.
So the roadster is here to stay and it will soon be spring í ½í¸Ž
