  1. Feels like it's been quite a while since I started one of these threads on here. But I have a good reason to start this one :)

Andy wanted his Alezan seats and bits trimming as they were were very worn and dirty. But he wanted them to be a bit more... orange...

Orange enough for you, sir...?!

I've used Yarwood leather for this as the Muirhead Ginger I used last time simply wasn't orange enough. This is really nice stuff and, even if I do say so myself, the stitching is absolutely superb!

Driver's seat will be finished tomorrow. As you can see, I've included a picture or two of it as it is right now so you can see the difference between the original leather and the new stuff. There's definitely a certain amount of Tango going on now!

    Ready for collection on Saturday.

  2. Talking about dishonesty. I'm pretty sure my car has a dodgy MOT. I saw my car in London and rang the dealer to tell him I was interested in the car and was coming down to view it the next day. He said he would get it MOT'd for me in the morning as I told him I wasn't buying a car with 3 months left on it. I got there to collect the car and low and behold it passed it's MOT with NO advisories......For a car of over 10 years old that's unheard of. I suspect it will probably fail massively next year!

My 24 year old 300ZX went through it's MOT in September without a single advisory.

  3. That's strong money!!!

    Definitely. Nice looking though. ;)

I know some seats do seem to demand a premium even in used condition though. Recaro RS4 wingbacks are one set that springs to mind as they're usually at least a £1K each in used condition.

    Link: http://www.ebay.co.u...-MAAOSw6oBXEoam

You could pick up a pair of the seats the OP posted secondhand, have them trimmed and have seat heaters fitted, for less than that.

But you're not wrong about some seats costing big bucks - I do a lot of work on old Fords and the Recaros out of RS Turbos are starting to climb in value quite considerably. Even a tatty pair will easily go for three figures nowadays!

  4. im like 5ft 4 so the height thing should be an issue i have the standard z seats adjustment basicaly as low as they can go, first car thats actually an ideal seat height for me... the wheel is also its lowest position for me though haha. what did you do for seat belts? the seats i might be buying have bride rails so im thinking they might fit with them and wont need to get specific ones for the z as they arent in a dc5 now they're in a ep3 civic.

You'd have to modify the Bride rails to fit the Nissan's floorpan.

Recaro Speeds are superbly comfortable and the bases are a decent width. I'm not sure that any bucket seat like those is designed for massive people (not saying you are, by the way!) but for something of an average or slim build, there shouldn't be any problems.

I have a pair of Speeds in my 300ZX and I simply wouldn't change them for anything!

  5. I recently sold some leather on eBay. The auction ended with a winning bidder and, by the end of that day, I'd heard nothing at all and received no payment so I sent him an invoice.

Three days later, still no contact so I sent him another invoice with a note attached asking him to pay so I could send the leather out to him.

Two days after that, he sends me a message saying he gets paid in three weeks' time so he'll pay then!!

No contact prior to bidding to ask if this was ok... he basically just told me that's what was happening. I replied saying I wasn't happy about it because he hadn't asked beforehand and he replied (again, a couple of days later) basically saying "Tough!"

So I relisted it but, without thinking properly, I didn't cancel his original transaction. Imagine my surprise when he made payment before the second aauction ended, meaning I had to end the second one and then send him the leather.

The worst bit is that, as a seller, I can't leave with negative feedback. I can leave him positive but with a negative message attached, but that's not really the same thing is it...?

It really winds me up that sellers have their hands tied so much on there... eBay's argument is that, without buyers, there'd be no eBay. But surely, common sense has to dictate that it would be the exact same scenario without sellers as well...?

  6. two thread in one day im getting greedy.

Anyway whats more important working a position which you have no passion for waking up in the morning thinking here we go again but get a reasonably good salary, or working in position you have a passion for enjoy turning up to work every day but earn say little more than the minimum wage?

I used to be a civil servant until a couple of years agao. The upholstery was just a sideline that provided some pocket money at that point, although I was slowly building it up as a bona fide business.

I was on a "reasonable" wage with the government - far higher than minimum wage, for example. But I really didn't enjoy it one bit. The commuting was a killer and I can't say I wholeheartedly agreed with the ethics of the job I was doing, so I basically wasn't happy in my work.

When my health took a downturn about 3 years ago, I found myself pondering what to do as myself and work were at loggerheads over how to help me. Push came to shove 2 years ago and I exited the Civil Service, which meant that the upholstery had to replace that wage from that point!

Basically, I've taken a huge pay cut. But I love my job and I always find a way to make the ends meet. So personally speaking, I'd say it's better to be happy and poor than to be rich and miserable...

  8. With my old 300ZX, I find a lot of people either ask me "What is it...?" or, if they're slightly more clued-up, "That's a 350Z, yeah?"

Both of which make me chuckle. Once I've explained things, there's a fairly standard raft of questions that subsequently get asked:

"Does it really have two turbos?"

    "Is it thirsty?"

    "Is it expensive?"

"Is it really 24 years old?"

"Why didn't you fancy a Skyline...?"

There's a small handful of people I see around where I live who actually know what it is without being told, and they seem appreciative about it's comparative rarity and street presence. But most people simply have no idea what the hell it is.

I think the best one I ever heard was when I pulled up outside a local shop on a nice day, so the roof was in the boot. A couple of youths were loitering outside and one asked the other "That's nice. What is it?" His friend gave him a knowing look and said "It's a kitted MR2 - the roof gives it away!"

  9. Oh guys. I'm really rock bottom with all this. So much is going on/wrong and all I want is her care and compassion and love and hugs.

The really awful truth in this is that she obviously doesn't want to give you those things.

As much as we may all wish otherwise, you can't change someone's feelings or make them feel how they used to - that needs to come from them. I've been in your position in the past and I know how badly it can hurt... I know how it can feel like absolutely nothing else matters other than getting that person back in your life.... that feeling does pass, I promise! It's the time between right now and that point that leaves the emotional scars...

All you can do is ride this out and, if need be (and it helps), keep turning to the membership on here. It's a bit cliched but there is truth in the notion that it can be easier to open up to strangers (or relative strangers) than to your closest friends and family.

  10. Okay, I'm potentially looking for a pair of front Brembo calipers off a 350Z. Nothing definite at this point... more a case of seeing what's available and at what cost.

Anyone able to offer any insight please? :)

  11. Looks great. Although how hard wearing is the material? Will you end up with a worn hand print on it?

Alcantara's pretty hardwearing stuff so there should be a good few years go by before it starts to look "tatty" (for want of a better word).

  12. All finished and ready to go home! :D

As you can see, the bulge from the driver's seat has been replicated on the passenger base as well. I'll be honest; creating the diamonds of those base sections was a pain to do, but it all looks good in the end.

Quite the striking pair of seats now! :D
