  1. Kylo Ren was quite possibly the worst sith ever, I reckon I could have had him using just a rolling pin instead of a light sabre. And yes, should have kept the mask on...

I reckon he was more worried about his hair and image than being a bad ass Sith Lord. Can you imagine him standing up next to Darth Maul. Maul would be thinking, who's this pretty boy then

    It's very easily explained in just two words too;

    Disney villain.

Even ignoring Abrams ineptitude at all things film, Disney was never going to let Kylo Ren be another Maul or Vader. I mean, they didn't even give him a theme tune...

Damn, you are so on the money with this.

  2. Going off topic a little - Been working my way through the 2016 Best Picture Oscar Nominees

    seen 3 so far

Bridge of Spies - Good movie, typical solid Tom Hanks performance 8/10

The Big Short - Very Good and will scare the sh*t out of you on how banks can be so irresponsible - both Bale and Steve Carrells characters are superb 9/10 - saw a dodgy copy in Hanoi last week just in case I get comments its not released in UK yet !

The Martian - Best Movie I have seen for years, its sad, hilarious at times but utterly compelling 10/10 - probably won't win as its up against non fiction movies.

Cheers for the heads up Mudman, will check those films out. Having a big film watching session at the moment so welcome any recommendations.

Surprised there is not a thread about the last movie a person watched to be honest with a quick review.

  3. I do kind of agree about Star Wars. I mean it was good and as you say, better than the prequals, but I wasn't like, oh wow, this is mind blowing. Even Darth Maul made me go, oh wow which I was hoping Kylo Ren would do but he just came across as a bit of a stroppy wimp. He should of kept his mask on for the whole film to add to the mystery of his character. Ray was good but I didn't really care about Fin or that fighter pilot who kept looking at Fin in an odd way :)

As film I saw last night that was brilliant was Argo. Had no idea what to expect or when it was made but it was brilliant.

  4. I'm really looking forward to Batman v Superman. I can only go from the trailers but it looks quite a dark movie with both Batman and Superman looking quite dark, complicated and sinister rather than squeaky clean. Plus the introduction of Wonder Woman might add a new element. Still, it could turn out to be utter pants. Captain America Civil Wars looks great also. Then you have Suicide Squad which could be interesting.

  5. Don't give up ;) there are certainly more cars out there that offer a different driving experience to the Zed for the same money. I would wholeheartedly recommend every petrolhead should own a VX or Elise at some point in their life, makes the Zed seem like you were driving a bus  - (prepares flame suit)

I have been making my way through a number of cars since the Zed and enjoying the different offerings, that said was a bit confused as to why you would go for a WRX as well as some other people on here.

I own an Elise so I can tell you anything you might want to know about then if interested :)

  6. It's not your hearing Pete, most music these days just sounds like the same @*!# Over produced, over compressed and the same American format :)

Taylor Swift, Madonna, Kylie......that sort of stuff? Lol ;)

Oi, leave Taylor out of this. She's a very close personal friends of somebody who I don't know

  7. Main reason is i get bored of cars very quickly, there are so many that I like so I struggle to keep cars for long. I've had the zed for 2.5 years now so fancy a change. In my head I justify this by telling myself if i get a more practical car I can also get rid of my Octavia daily. Having read people's experiences though I may stick with the zed and upgrade the Octavia to relieve my thirst for a new car.

I don't think going to a WRX will satisfy you enough after a Zed I'm afraid, especially if you have an Octavia. I think you will get bored of the WRX much quicker and despite the performance being similar, the whole experience and theatre that you get with a Zed (RWD, 2 seater etc.) far outweighs it. Despite the Scooby having 4WD and turbo, the difference is not enough to make the change. An STi might be but I would still test drive first.

Unless he gets a posh one ;) I've obviously got the chav version lol

    Pikey

  9. On my third Scooby, one classic and two blobs. Best cars I have ever owned. A WRX is pretty comparable to a standard Zed in terms of trim and ride. An STi is the next level up so it depends what you are looking for in a car.

What I will say is if you are going to start modding, then either do it cautiously and properly on a WRX or forget it and start at an STi. The WRX will only be happy to go to around 280 - 300bhp on OEM internals until something fails and it usually fails big time. Personally, on a WRX I would only do a filter, exhaust, fuel pump and remap on OEM engine.

It would be nice to know why you want to go from a Zed to a Scooby. If it's for 4 seats and a boot then fair enough. If it's for performance then forget a WRX, you will be disappointed as not a lot in it so go for an STi. As I say, best cars I have ever owned and that includes my Elise and DC5.

I don't think my WRX is anyway comparable to my zed. Completely different trim and ride! One has raw, in ya face turbo power and AWD. Great for accelerating super fast from stationary and feeling the g-force. Rough interior. The other is refined power that just keeps going, unbelievable handling (when you get it right), much nicer interior. I know which one I get more smiles with....although the Scooby doesn't punish me if I'm having an 'off or tired' day. Both great cars, I'm lucky I have both.....not sure I would swap zed for Scooby!

I wonder if they upgraded the interior on the Blobs as mine is really posh inside and certainly not rough. It also drives really smooth. It is different to my 2003 that I had. Certainly wouldn't call it raw. It's why I use it for long journeys as it's just so chilled and comfortable but has the power still.

  11.

@Linus: Cheers for the heads up on those tracks, I'll pick them up and use them for fine tuning. I also use Sting's 'Fields Of Gold' for that kind of thing, it's very intricately laced with multiple subtle tracks that I never noticed until someone pointed them out to me. He's still an absolute bellend, but I can't knock his music

You're welcome. The Riverdance track is especially good to get. Its voices only, no instruments so it really highlights any weakness in your system, especially bass with the male choir. I have a few different tracks based on production that covers other genre's and instruments, for example guitars and rock, dance and electronic etc. but can't remember what they are :) I'm sure one of the tracks is Madonna's Like a Prayer. Sting's 'Fields of Gold' I can see would be good and yes, a bellend still, great song writer but bellend

Talking about subtle tracks and layers, listen to that Sting song on another setup, for example some in ear headphone's and then listen to it on a really good set of headphones. It's amazing the difference and how some layer are totally silent or masked on the lower quality stuff and how the high end stuff can produce those frequencies and bring to the front other tones. It can be like listening to a new song again :) So funny listening to a track and hearing a whole new guitar or backing vocal part that you never heard before. The only bummer is if your ears are fooked and you can't hear those frequencies in the first place

  12. It could also be people's second time of buying the albums.

Some of the older stuff would be on vinyl, cassette, cd and now everything is digital.

Yes, I understand that, but why buy stuff that you can listen to for free on youtube? I never switched from vinyl and the type of music coming out from the early 90's onwards didn't interest me. Not only that a real fan of an old fart (I'm not singling out Bowie here) that's just died has had 25 years to replace his/her vinyl so why the lemming like rush to buy stuff now the artist is dead and won't see any financial benefit. I've read through all the posts with great interest, some good valid points, I remember when Elvis died the guy next door played his records for several days non stop like he was grieving, so I guess that buying back catalogues is a way that some people express their grief.

    Pete

If it's through ITunes then that's probably (guessing) the main media outlet for most people who will download onto their phone, iPod etc. and play in the car on on the train to work so that will probably discount YouTube.

As for the Elvis point, I guess that's maybe his way to remember, respect and not quite accept what has happened. Maybe not, guessing again but if you look at the scenes in Brixton when Bowie died, with thousands of people camping out at night with his songs being played over a PA, it's not that dissimilar.

  13. Kef stuff is very good. Likewise, my setup isn't especially fancy (NAD amp and CD and Monitor Audio speakers) but boy can you tell the difference when you play something decent on it.

When we used to go on tour, our sound engineer used to tune the deck, house PA and room using a select few songs on a CD that he knew had been recorded with the most natural acoustics. It was a good way to tune the frequencies to suit that environment. Then as the venue filled up and the temperature changed he would just adjust to suit. I now use use some of those song myself when testing speakers and amps etc. and it's been priceless.

If you can, get the Riverdance album and play the song The Heart's Cry. It's one of the best songs for giving a system a workout, especially the way it was recorded. The lead female voice is perfect for tuning the highs. A good system will let you hear the natural vibrato in her voice and her taking breath. It should be so piercing. Then the male voices should then so bass heavy that the floor shakes. Then the rest of the choir cater for the mids. Nothing on the amp should need boosting, if it does then it's a crap system :) Ronnie Jordan's debut album is also great for bass tones due to the great double bass. Talk Talk's Happiness is Easy is amazing for drums, bass and vocals. Sadly my system needs a bit of bass boosting, probably due to the bookshelf speakers.
