  1. no deja vu whatsoever for me. I couldn't find one single example of a first hand 'i put x grade fuel in tank and broke it', only just opinions, a million 'look at fuel filler stickers' responses which i asked to avoid in opening post along with 2nd, 3rd hand 'urban myth' type tales on postings and hearings of it happening to mates, mechanic mate stories etc.

I'm getting a lot out of this, fairly pleased.

NO question of affordability for fuel or vehicle.

Rule #1 for this car is: no practical reason. (I'm allowing the exception to put golf clubs in and go to golf)

I also have a 13plate zx6r with the same rule. I just got that cash buy mid 2014 and fitted exhaust, fuel injection module and tuning, quickshifter so no clutch and throttle off, brakes all myself plus superficial mods and came to stage of.. what's next. and always liked these cars from the 240, 300 days.

bike is mainly used for sunny weekends and domestic track/euro track events

It was mostly a cash buy and finance taken was because interest rates are so low and my £ is in other places at moment but I'll pay it off in a couple months anyway.

Plan for car is sunday sunny day UK drives at 20mph and France, Germany weekends where I'll have the super fuel in and maybe press the sport mode button.

My only fuel knowledge is I know can put 102 in the bike at silverstone with no noticeable difference and I used to put avgas from the local drag/tuning shop in cars in the 90's, just for fun.

  2. I had a current model v6 rental convertible for a week last year.

    count out the 2.3.

v8 is a serious contender though!!!

no doubt it's a cool looking car from the outside. (I'd say an equal measures for the 370z.)

interior and options of the rental was well below the nissan and performance wasn't a match but being a new model fittings and a 5l should bring it up to speed.

  3. considering godzilla came from Bathurst and it was only 23 years ago and kicked the locals asses that will never be forgotten so everyone knows their power. Plus euro cars are priced out of reach. or were, dunno about now maybe they are cheaper.

  4. That thread is only valid for the 350, isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that damage is caused by pre-detonation due to the lack of a knock sensor (Or mapping to use 95 RON). You won't get this same damage using 95 in a 370... but it won't be as powerful or fuel efficient. There is surely no danger to the engine from using 95 as the 370 is setup to use this as well as 98.

Happy to be told that I'm talking horsey poop. There seems to be a lot of scaremongering around this point which isn't necessarily valid for the 370. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't use 95 if I had a 370, but doing so wouldn't cause any short or long term damage? :)

I appreciate that you and Ekona had the original question in mind as from what I found it in my looking about on this one here and internet search(as we all know if it's on the internet it must be true) I found there did seem to be a lot of as you very well put: 'IMO' type 'scaremongering' and then along with what I would say credible references(Nissan India and the Economist) saying it was ok which was why I put it out there for first hand examples.

  5. many thanks everyone.

so it's not unanimous here, as with any other thread on this topic ever done and so as i would have expected.

was just looking to see if there's any first hand experience with this one.

as it goes both ways and with my first posted reference links - one from the company itself saying it's ok...

i'll probably go with the super.

although it confuses me as unleaded way back was called super then it went to premium which is standard unleaded now it's back to super.... WTF. :)

but what i have got out of it is I think I might have to stick a datsun 120y badge on it after the reference to being too poor to afford petrol. That's a first i've seen for fuel type choice, not that i've ever looked before about this thing.

  6. ok here's a pic now i got it home.

    with my other thing.

day 1 and car is factory standard

bike was standard until i got my hands on it about 6 months ago. now it has no resale. lol...

car may get same treatment i don't know.......

    bike Car

  7. firstly - apologies in advance for bringing it up as I know this subject has been covered a million times here and out there.

but... I've been looking around and can't find anything that puts me 100% one way or the other.

Situation: yesterday handing over the cash and in return taking the 370z home. part of that activity included a: 'how to put petrol in' lesson where i asked what type of fuel to put in?

I'm a first time super unleaded car and 370z user here.

yes, the cap and documentation says 98. I asked salesman of his advice to use 95 and he says no worries it's ok. I asked him has he ever seen any problems from car owners in general and not just 370z users reporting problems from having used premium/95 in a super/98 vehicle.

The answer was no not one and it's not unusual for people to use 95 in a 98 vehicle. He tells me that it is from 5 years at the main nissan dealer and another car dealer previous to that.

I've been looking on this site and others in general searches and have not found 1 example of a first hand experience of 'i used lower rated fuel and that killed the engine'.

There's a million i use 'X' fuel it's better, name brand fuel beats supermarket, it's recommended to use 'x' fuel by manufactuer etc but nothing for certain.

What I have found is suggesting that 95 will be ok, in particular these 2 articles:

    http://www.rcnissan.co.in/pdf/370Z.pdf

    bottom of page 1:

    FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS

Use unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 95 (RON). If premium

gasoline is not available, unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of 91 (RON) may

be temporarily used, but only with the following precautions.......

    (yes i know it's India)

    and:

    http://www.economist.com/blogs/babbage/2012/09/octane-ratings

and mentioning that modern cars won't self destruct as the car has a fuel sensor that auto tunes to suit.

So, anyone out there with personal experience of killing their car with lower rated fuel?

not a mate, mechanic, heard of, i should use 'x', as that's all been very well covered before but a first hand experience.

having said all that what i've come across is one guy had a very convincing argument for shell super for economy reasons.....Plan is to have a think about it and give it a shot. but it's going to be impossible for me to tell about noticing a difference as i don't have a regular routine of driving activity.

  8. I've had them. They are fine. Pretty much all new tyres are. Depends on what you're doing but perfectly good in normal wet. i've had almost all the makers supersport tyres and all are really good all round.

The only one's i've felt noticeably different bad in cold and wet are my current d211's but that's to be expected for their purpose.

  9. cheers.

update: made it. picked it up yesterday.

    and WOW!!!!

I know it's cold weather so i'm guessing that's the reason it's so easy. although it's running new potenzas....

But it just smokes it so easy in 1st and 2nd! Sports mode was off all the time also. And the shop guy said he had put a few £ of 95 in.

that sure was was a bit unexpected!

But i drove the rest of the way home couple hundred miles all fully well behaved.

Should be interesting once i get some 98 in there and press that 'S' button. yee ha!

Then I'll go back to driving like a granny. This car isn't going to get thrashed, It's my sunday beach and country road 20mph driver.

The sound system is pretty impressive too. The previous owner left some mainly Bob Marley, a few ZZ top, a Lynyrd Skynard and a Tone Loc and a few others on the hard drive for me to get home with. LMFAO!. Not really the sounds of a caners car there in it's previous life also.

  10. Thanks again.

Excited to collect and get it out there.

In the meantime I'm practicing driving it on ps3 gt6, is that acceptable behaviour here?

I can say that the tracks on the game are very good as a copy of the real thing having done a few of them before on bikes, does the same apply for the for the way the car behaves???

  11. spa world osaka is different. whether you're into it or not. not the sort of place you would go with your mates from home but when you're away - do as they do!

or you can do the natural traditional springs.

Osaka is a bit easier for location to Kobe, Kyoto day trips also getting to mt fuji.

    Takayama old town.

weird thing is. i've never seen any sports and modified cars and bikes in the 3x i've been.

I'd also be interested to know about the car/bike opportunities situation. going there next month.

  12. thanks everyone.

It's listed on the sale as Ebisu Black. but i guess I'll confirm once i pick it up and check codes, you never can be sure where the ad matches reality and where it doesn't.

It's a 2011 reg if that makes a difference to colour schemes.

I like to think one day i'll have the Armytrix exhaust and these wheels:

    http://www.vossenwhe...0Z_VFS1_456.jpg

But a bag of £ or something like that will have to fall out of the sky for that to happen anytime soon, realistically not going to spend quite that much in the near future.

  13. 370z

Here it is in the caryard.
A bit of tidying up by dealer and I'll be collecting and paying next weekend if everything goes to plan.
    It's totally standard.
£ hasn't quite gone to plan so I can't do the wanted changes right away.
I will be interested in wheel and exhaust mods to get started, if anything going feel free to give me a shout, not having a lot to spend on them at moment so any used bargains are the idea.

  14. wow that is one cool car.

i haven't seen one for years. and just checked asking prices for sale. i had no idea!

where did they all go? all of them up to the 350 just disappeared!

I hope to buy a 370z tomorrow and have Holden Torana lx hatchback in my parents garage... i think. if they haven't disposed of it.... :p

hope to see it for real not just photos sometime.

  15. This is as good as i've heard.

Is there anything that compares to this? I'm only interested in the noise.

Not interested in performance, no track work, I behave on the roads and all that's just a numbers talking game.

    Does anyone have one?

Where can i buy in U.K?

I looked on their website and will have it tuned to shoot out fire too like they did to the lambo!

  16. Hi everyone.

So I've been trying to get my act together for far too long now and I think i'm getting close.

I took a 370z for a test ride recently and it surprisingly far exceeded my expectations.

I found this site a short while ago and looked around a bit and found all my questions and thoughts already more or less covered so seems there's a fair bit of like mindedness going down out there.

I can't find much competition for the 370z.

Only thing I would consider almost a must do is to make it make some more noise.

All I have to do is find one now, just know of autotrader at the moment.

All suggestions for these questions welcome, I'm interested in good and bad points and any other opinions!
