  1. Drove back from work yesterday and no squeaks at all...... Seems to be an intermittent squeak on top of being an erroneous one! Sort of glad to see its not just me though! Have ordered new tyres for £250 online (saving me about £150!) and will get them fitted this week, then take it in for it's MOT the week after and ask them to investigate. The garage is owned by a mate so am sure they'll be honest about what/where the issue is! **** dismantling the gear box, etc. for an intermittent clutch squeak!! Know this must be easily done with some lithium grease!
  2. Its the X2600BT. Ran in to a bit of a snag though.... seems it dumps the Database it builds of MP3s stored on the USB every time the car is turned off! Have phoned pioneer and have various things i need to run through.... it could either be the yellow 12v cable not done properly, which i doubt as it remembers my bluetooth and time, or it not writing the database to the USB stick correctly! Is annoying me.... knew nothing was ever simple with the zed!
  3. How exactly would I go about finding and identifying this part? Is it easily accessible from under the hood or under the car? And what sort of grease would be ok? WD40?
  4. Sounds like a good lead! At least there havent been any "OH MY GOD!! Your car is about to blow up!" comments yet, which is promising and puts a bit of worries aside!
  5. It seems to always be present when I'm pulling up, not taking off. And I cant tell whether it is due to the warmer weather we have been having... but it seems to be more prominent in the heat rather than the cold. Definately tend to notice it more once the car is warmed up, as it always bugs me when im pulling back onto my home estate
  6. When i have the windows closed I can hear it a lot less, it is only when the windows are down and I'm doing it stationary that i really notice it, so I wouldn't imagine it would be under the dash (excuse me if my logic is off here, am useless with cars!), but wouldn't that make it more or equally pronounced when the windows are up and I'm inside the car if it were coming directly from the pedal spring?
  7. Hi, Been noticing a squeak when i bring the pedal up recently. It happens before it engages at the biting point. I can sit there with the engine off, and press the pedal down and bring it up and i get this odd squeak, sounds liek the exact sound of a trainer skidding on a polished shop floor/basketball court.... originally i thought it was just because my shoes were wet slipping on the pedal. Have had a lot of problems with the zed recently.... so just want to get this out of the way before i go asking the bank for more money..... is this a simple matter of spraying some oil/grease on a component? Or is this a sign that my clutch is about to die (this zed has made me pessimistic) The seller supposedly had a new exedy clutch and flywheel fitted 4,000 miles ago, so cant imagine it is that, and there is no slippping and when i tested the clutch with 3rd gear starts and for slipping it seems fine. Just want to know whether this is a common thing that may just need a bit of lube spraying (which i can hold off and wait till its MOT in April), or whether i should get it checked out? It sort of sounds like its coming from the engine bay/wheel area if that helps Thanks
  8. Sorry to hear about the other bits and bobs but which company was this, I'm not a million miles from you and after the same work Shocks Away, his name is Toby, would highly recommend him http://www.shocksaway.com/ Here is a thread with pictures showing the work he did, i ended up opting for the £300 H.U. So cost me £300 + £58 for parts + £72 labour inc VAT http://www.350z-uk.c...-zed-pampering/ Fantastic work and really pleased with the upgrade!!! Think he stocks 6" touch screen head units ranging from as little as £230!
  9. Not the normal rays.... flashy 19" wide ones, 275/35/R19 i believe.... apparently it is £128 per tyre for the "budget" version, and £200+ for the current ones on it .... so looking at getting mid range versions! Didnt think about tyre expense when buying the car! In response to GIXXERUK.... I shall do nothing with my cassettes.... but thinking of it I do have a good quality Griffin (i think) Auxilliary to Cassette tape adapter! Cost me £15 from Halfords! If anyone wants it for free... just let me know and I'll post it out! Have loads of first class stamps lying about so can have it for completely free! I'll have it! PM'd Will post it out to you tomorrow mate. Should be with you on thursday

  11. So my zed has had a tough week... it had about 5 hours of mechanical work done on it last Monday, so i thought I'd give it a treat on Saturday. Had Toby from Shocks Away come over early on Saturday morning, and after 2 hours, with a couple of fag and coffee breaks, he fitted this lovely new pioneer head unit to rid me of the archaic BOSE cassette player! He also tidied up some of the wiring i had put in place for my dash cam, and made everything just a whole lot neater! Lovely to have a lot more orange around the dash now, and a HU that better suits the car Am very impressed with the fitting, and his knowledge about the set up, and it was all done for a very reasonable price! We discussed what he could do further with regards to upgrading the subwoofer, and that'll be next on my shopping list once i find some more money! After the stereo was all sorted, I took it to a local tyre specialist who freed up some seized dust caps for me for free... but also pointed out my 2 rear tyres were quite worn.... and gave me a lovely quote of around £200 per tyre, that was a bummer. Figuring I'll leave the tyres till the april MOT and try and source some cheaper but good quality ones elsewhere... i proceeded to halfords to buy some more car wax and microfibre pads, after stopping by argos to buy a pressure washer! After a play around with the pressure washer.... and only noticing how powerful the jet was after fully spraying my car, and spending 30 minutes worried I had torn off the clear coat, I realized how to change the pressure settings, and assessed that the clearcoat was fine having let it dry, and then proceeded to give it a good shampoo followed by a wax. With everything clean, I then finally brought out the touch up paint, which I've been so terrified to use just out of fear it won't blend to clear up some stone chip marks. Having done a test, with good results, i touched up a couple more stone chips, which now look a hell of a lot better and are only noticable on close inspection, and before i knew it, it was dark outside! All in all though a happy Saturday for my Zed! EDIT : to cement the fact i shall never lay hands on a cassette again, if anyone wants a free AUXILLIARY to CASSETTE thingy (cost £15 from halfords), just PM me and I'll post it to you all free of charge! First come first serve!
  12. Fair shout! The bills just keep piling up out of nowhere and i just keep worrying bigger expense will be just around the corner! Spent £1200 on it just this week including a new head unit as a treat.... then go to a tyre specialist to get seized dust caps removed.... and ends up both my rear tyres are below the legal limit.... so thats already £280-£460 depending on quality of the tyres when the mot comes up next month!!
  13. Must be a receipt for the parts somewhere. Check with the mechanic who fitted it, ask the seller for his number. Ok, will ask and see but he gave me all the documents he had for it upon sale, so doubt it is there, and the mechanic who fitted it for him is a friend of his so doubt hed say he didnt do it if he actually didnt. From what i did though, does it sound like the clutch is fine? And do you know of any other way to check its health?
  14. One of the guys in his car club who is a mechanic fitted it so there is no receipt... all cash in hand im guessing
  15. Hi One of the big selling points i had buying my zed was the seller said it had had a new exedy clutch and flywheel fitted at 36k miles (is now at 40k). The biting point is quite high though... but from what I've read this is just how zeds are! A couple of people have also commented that my gear shifting could do with improvement.... and this is all because of how high the clutch is. I figure there is no way of seeing if it has the new clutch and flywheel in it without a lot of dis-assembly... so i read some techniques for testing the clutch's health. I tried pulling off in 3rd gear.... not putting a lot of power in the pedal, and basically easing it up as i would if i were in 1st... and it didn't like it, but did move, just was jolting and then i couldn't follow through with it and just let off the clutch. I then tried another technique.... took it up to about 30-35 mph in 2nd gear, then switched to 5th gear, as i brought up the clutch the needle hung at 5,000 odd revs for a split second (i guess as it was engaging) then immediately shot straight down to 1,500. From what I've read that is meant to be a good sign. Does that all sound like I have a healthy clutch? Are there any other tests i can do that aren't too damaging that can give me a solid idea of whether this car does indeed have a recently fitted clutch to it? May just be a case of manually lowering the biting point, like i've seen in a guid on the forum (think thats one for the zed shed though as I know I'd manage to **** it up if i tried!)
  16. Ok....but what the hell have the wheel sizes got to do with tyre pressures?! THAT'S what has confused us all. Ooh, fair shout... didnt really know tbh.... was assuming that if the wheel was bigger, it may mean the pressure would need to be different from that with a smaller wheel given the lower volume of air that can be fitted in the tyre... but i guess the nature of pressure as a unit makes that irrelevant thinking about it! Was just trying to be thorough... not purposely trying to drive everyone mad ! Well, this is actually correct, the rim/tire size is relevant, especially with cars that have 15"-19" stock, where the difference is even bigger. Also, you can't measure rim size by measuring outside edges of the rim, you should refer to numbers on the tire wall. We live and learn! Certainly wont be forgetting this anytime soon! Will enquire about tyre sizes when i get the valves replaced and hopefully brush up on my tyre awareness! Can see why everyone was so confused now! It just seemed the most logical way to measure them in my head!
  17. Wish i could say this will be the last topic that makes me look like a clueless idiot.... but we all know thats not the case! Thanks for your advice and heckling, and am sure ill run into another problem soon ! Yargh... yet more ****ing expense for the zed.... have already spent £1130 on it in the last 14 days! These arent cheap cars
  18. Have just read up about balancing and the cleanly carved mark is uniform on both sides of the inside... so looks like thats the ticket! Thanks mate

  20. By 35 i mean psi By 20.5 i mean the diameter of the wheel in inches By 24.5 i mean the distance between one outer edge of the tyre to the other (2 inches of tyre on either side of the wheel) in inches Am sorry for all of the confusion vreated by this.... but it is no longer relevant. I have decided to go for 35psi pressure but am now faced with 3 stuck dust caps

  22. 24.5 diameter from my measuring tape! Will go for 35 all round then, as long as it wont do any harm! Why are you using a measuring tape may I ask ? Because it has lines on it that can be used to gauge the length of objects.... so it just sort of made sense Also don't try and come with smart answers as you're already making yourself look like a complete idiot using a measuring tape to measure your wheels. The wheel size is written in simple terms on the tyre wall! Cant see it... so i used a measuring tape just to measure the diameter of the tyre from one side to the other.... know its not the right way but its just what i did! Didnt realize it would cause such a commotion
  23. Theyre nut shaped... tried REALLY hard to get the off... using pliers and a screwdriver with a 10mm nut head adaptor thing.... think i may have put the rubber under a lot of stress, so dont want to try any harder. Any idea how much it would cost me to get the valves replaced?

  25. Its not that difficult.... i have metal dust caps that must be removed in order to attach the pump to the tyre.... much in the same way one would unscrew the dust caps on a bike tyre to pump them up and get at the valve.... 3 of my 4 metal dust caps are simply impossible to unscrew.... i have tried unscrewing them with tools and using wd40 in an attempt to loosen them.... but they are stuck firm so i cannot now pump up my remaining 3 tyres
