    tyre sizes

evening all, Regards the depth of the tyre 255/45/18 etc is it absolutely imperative that you must get the same as the car manufacturer recommends? my friend has some 18" alloys and the car and tyre manufacturer is saying that he must stick to the depth of 45. He would like to buy 40's as he prefers them looking slimmer and they are about £40 each cheaper than the 45s. However there saying that if he drops to 40's his speedo would be miles out which is not advisable? I know it usually makes a little difference to the speedo changing the rim and tyre size but would swapping from a 45 down to a 40 really put the speedo miles out? cheers in advance
  7. Afternoon all, we took a road trip this year and drove from Calais to the Nurburgring then down to Austria and went on the Grossglockner high alpine road in Austria. The roads through germany are fantastic especially on the derestricted autobahns. Theres no traffic, no pot holes or rubbish on the road and there pretty straight all the time so you can give the car a good run. I managed to get 149mph out of mine on the speedo dont think it was quite that much on the satnav but none the less its fast. Up to 120mph doesnt feel fast but as soon as you get past 130mph it feels quick. Pleased to say the zed handled it well steering didnt seem to go light and it didnt shake and fall to peices lol Then the country/alpine roads are where the real driving comes in propper topgear stye roads with cliff edge hair pin bends with no barriers and just a 1000 foot drop and this is where you get the stunning scenery. When we reached the top of the grossglockner it was unreal, the views and the 15foot walls of snow either side the road looked incredible and to make it more surreal it was 18C outside in shorts and t shirt with all the snow still lying around.. anyway enough waffle heres just a few pics we took of the trip: Nissan shop at the nurburgring view from our balcony in austria bottom of the grossglocker alpine road my mug in summery clothing in the snow, unreal experience! sunset in austria softtop 370 not sure if i like or not great trip if you ever get the chance to go!
  8. that would be wasso, would look amazing with a colored spacer too!
  9. hi mate, i wouldnt mind the exhaust if its still up for grabs, im Leicester though so would need to arrange some sort of delivery if possible? give us a PM if your up for sorting something out. cheers dude
  10. Magnetic sump plug good idea. Cheers! Re: the oil filter I say do it by hand till it feels tight, then I nip it up with the torque wrench to 10-15nM as per manufacturers instructions, which is normally half a turn max. Depends how strong you are by hand! . But as suggested hand tight is normally enough, a little common sense is needed obviously, when you come to do it you can feel how tight it is :-)
  11. Good afternoon all, Just carried out my first oil & filter change on the zed so thought id take a few pics and post up a brief guide to show how its done. Its pretty easy as im sure most of you know but for those who havent done it before and would like to see what to expect then hopefully this will help. Tools needed 14mm socket Torque wrench (if possible) Oil catch pan for waste oil Oil filter wrench Pz3 screw driver or I think 8mm socket Jack, axel stands or ramps plenty of old rags latex gloves if you want to protect your hands Materials needed Good quality 5w30 fully synthetic oil (I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro from opie oils ) Always use a good quality oil if you can afford it go for an Ester based product as it clings to engine internals and protects better than cheaper stuff, a must i'd say for high performance engines. New oil filter (I choose a K&N gold as there apparently high flow rate, but more so for the welded on nut on the end of the can which will make removal dead easy next time) New copper crush washer (From ebay or nissan parts or mine was from Flex, cheers bud ) Thats all you should need i think! Right here goes.... First i recommend you warm the engine up a little this will thin the oil down and make it run out easier, even though this pumps the oil round the engine, by the time youve jacked up and are ready to remove the drain plug i guess most of the oil will have ran back down anyway. Then jack up the car Once your happy its safe, get under the car and remove the splash guard (you will be able to see the oil filter and sump plug with this still in place, but i choose to remove it so theres plenty of work space and you dont spill any old oil all over it) Then you will have plenty of room and see the oil filter and drain plug Remove the oil filler cap (this will help the oil flow out freely) Then position your oil catch pan and remove the drain plug with the 14mm socket, once you have loosed it do it by hand and becare not to drop it in your catch pan otherwise you'll be fishing around in dirty oil for ages lol Once your happy most of the oil is out, grab your filter wrench and remove the oil filter, again once its going do it by hand and becareful not to drop it otherwise this time you will splash oil all over your face Once every thing has stopped dripping give all the surfaces a clean, fit your new copper crush washer ensuring the nick is at the head of the bolt refit the drain plug (Torque to approx 30nM) you should feel the resistance of the copper washer crushing then once it has, it should go tight immediately. Then fill your new oil filter with a little oil and rub some around the rubber seal, this helps prime the filter and ensure you get a snug fit! This threads on very easyily, if its stiff or feels tight becareful you have not cross threaded it. I think the recommended torques for this are approx 15nM but i normally hand tight plus half a rotation with a wrench is plenty. Give everything another clean and get your new oil ready for the engine. The zed de engines requires 4.75 litres i belive, so what I do is mark 4.25 litres on your new tub Then pour in a litre or two, then go check for any leaks so you dont waste any of your amber necta! If your happy theres no leaks, continue filling till you hit your 4.25 litre mark. At this point im happy to run the car even though its not quite full. So if your happy to do so, go start the car and keep an eye on your oil pressure guage, it should go straight up to pressure after a second or 2 when the oil filter is full. If it does not turn off immediately and go check for leaks etc... I left my car running for 5 minutes or so to let the oil heat up then had another check for leaks. Once happy you have no leaks, shut the engine off and refit your splash guard. Then remove your jack and stand or ramps etc and park the car on a level surface. Go have a cup of T for 5 minutes while all the oil settles back into the sump. Finally check your dipstick and top up the remaining oil to id say just under the suggested 4.75 litres. Hopefully thats job done!
  12. tah mate, gonna give it a go tomoz
  13. cheers v. muchly for the washer flex, another simple question if i may.. what torques do you do the sump bolt up to or do u just keep going till it crushes flat? as im planning on doing an oil change thursday evening. ive always serviced my cars myself but none of them ever had these crush washers just rubber ones... cheers !
  14. cheers, i checked them all over, a couple where loose but not unplugged. pushed them all back in and tidied the wires up a bit.. followed the airbag reset procedure i found on here and its gone off... see what happens next time we go out thanks dude
  15. morning all, not sure if this is the right forum but wasnt sure where to put it. anyway, driving along last night the airbag like randomly came on. it flashes on and off every other second now. is there anything i can do to try and find the problem or is it a garage job? many thanks
  16. Hi all, as title, any body on here got a couple they fancy posting out to me? cheers
  17. after using the car for a week now I can see a decent set of wider alloys and tyres is well worth the money. best mod ive done to a car. the car actually grips when you put your foot down and it handles so well in the corners the improvement over the standard rays which i think arent wide enough is amazing. thanks for everyones help again
  18. thats enough spending for the time being, but its a good idea lol
  19. right.... success!! a big thanks to everyone that commented to help get to the bottom of the issue, simple as the centers got fitted the wrong way round. once again thanks all and to Jay for sending them over halfway accross the country a nice 10mm of poke now plenty of brake clearance, no need for the spacers! we think it got passed down the line wrong! the first guy had them fitted to his rears to make them stand out like mine did, then as he liked the camber look had mega camber to tuck the tops just under the arches. as the next buyer had them he (and we) assumed the spacers were for the fronts which confused us further, turns out they werent! job done once again thanks all for your posts
  20. ive been sat reading everyones posts for hours now as this is really bugging me and something the alloy refurb guy told me has just sprung to mind... he said 2 of the centers are slightly more bulky and deeper.... and that these must be the ones to fit in the rear barrel as its wider, (as they werent marked wen took them off) so obviously at the time i didnt really give it any more thought and just thought to myself yeh that makes sense i suppose.... so, i bet they are the wrong way round then as if hes put the deeper centers in the rears that would make them stick out more surely?!? ill deffo go and swap them round and see if that is the problem...
  21. if u look in the top picture its at about top left
  22. on your wheels mate, where the bulkier centers in the front or back as you had exactly the same wheels and offset didnt you?
