  1. Anyone in Dorset/Hampshire with a white one i could take a look at please, very curious about the colour (mainly the pearl aspect) to see what outside of the photos i have seen.

    Thansk

  2. The hr is a stronger engine and you can get more power out it safely but the de engine can run circa 400hp safely

Great info, i have read the rev up's have stronger rods, or will this not really matter around the 400hp mark :)

Im not sure about the rods etc, hopefully someone on here knows. I read on a yank website there was a guy running over 500hp with stock fueling and internals!! probably not running anymore though

Rods are destroyed by torque, not HP

OP, I know of a nice ginger one for sale that someone is selling cheap ;):p

Would have to be cheap if it is ginger :) Pm me some details please.

You can't recive PM's at the moment mate :(

PM me your email addy if you like.

I thought i could, i got one from a mod, maybe its because they are special :)

  4. Out of interest what is your budget?

Lets put it likes this, i probably wont find a Zed on here for what i "want" to pay, lol :) Personally from looking about i can pick a sound one for £4k

  5. Whats your budget?

Get a JDM and add the bits, early engine will take 400HP if your after silly number then you will most likley have a built engine and it won't matter

If it is heavy just add NOS

Thanks, good advice (i hope), really was wondering if i would miss the advantages of a rev up engine.

No way do i plan on going more than 400hp, been down that road many times before and 400 is absolutely enough for the road and some track fun, anything more is overkill i think, fun, but overkill :)

  6. Out of interest were does the 200lbs of extra weight come from, thats a fair chunk :)

Where did you get that info from? I can't see the rev-up weighing 90kg (~6%) more than the non?

My350z website, that weight is over the entire car, not just the engine, sorry, badly worded on my behalf! :)

Im pretty sure all the zeds weigh roughly the same, regardless of which year. The only ones which weigh a lot more are the roadsters.

    Apparently: Copied and pasted

    03-05

    Coupe:

    3,188 lb (Base)

    3,197 lb (Enth)

    3,217 lb (Perf)

    3,247 lb (Tour)

    3,225 lb (Track)

    Roadster:

    3,428 lb (Enth)

    3,462 lb (Tour) Coupe:

    3,339 lb (Base)

    3,346 lb (Enth)

    3,400 lb (Tour)

    3,404 lb (Grand)

    TBD (NISMO)

    06-07

    Coupe:

    3,339 lb (Base)

    3,346 lb (Enth)

    3,400 lb (Tour)

    3,404 lb (Grand)

    TBD (NISMO)

    Roadster:

    3,580 lb (Enth)

    3,600 lb (Tour)

    3,602 lb (Grand)

Obviously from the US so they have different trim levels, but base to base or tour to tour etc, roughly 150+ lbs difference!

  9. Maybe a question that has been asked before but cant seem to find the answer.

Looking my first zed, my budget will only go from standard to rev up, not hr.

However, i plan to go fi at some point, so, will the rev up have any gains in the long run? Is it worth the extra weight associated with that model? Should i be concerned about the possibility of weaker rods with the non rev up? Oil consumption on the rev up? Is the six speed box better than 5.

    Views welcome :)

  10. I've got a cat c hyundai coupe. NEVER had any accident damage but was unlucky enough to be next to a car that caught fire when it was nigh on new. It's had the 1/4 & tailgate repaired & obviously the plastic bits like bumper & fuel flap were replaced. Got 18,000 miles on it on an 08 plate but I know ill struggle. Even priced £1750 cheaper than a 'straight' equivalent with twice the mileage I had no joy

I was more curious by the amount :) I know cars are often written off for very little these days though.

I almost bought a Cat C (by mistake) not a 350z by he way, it was only because i did a reg check that i found out. It actually wouldnt bother me too much buying one, but from that experience unless you were very lucky you could not find out why it was written off, so although they are checked to come back on the road, unless i personally knew what was damaged and repaired i would never feel comfortable.

  11. Been doing some thorough searching for Zeds this last week or so and surprised by the amount of Cat c & d's on the market, some even trying to command not much less than not written off.

I havent really searched for anything else so not sure if its a common theme of the market.

  12. Well this might be coming sooner than later. The Rx7 went for a health check before paint as i had some suspicions which were confirmed, water seals are gone (comparative to head gasket), not bad though, it did 20k miles at anywhere between 400 & 500hp. :)

So she is being broken for parts and soon as i have the cash in my hand, will be searching :)

Looking forward to a change, although i know it wont be the last 7 i have :)

  13. I managed to purchase a supercharged 350z for sub 7k, albeit in need of some cosmetic and minor engine work. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

    Was that off Driftworks?

  14. If your looking for 2nd hand FI parts then you need to get yourself an account over at my350z.com.

I can't remember the last time I saw a used SC kit come up for sale over here.

    Already there, lol :)

  15. 5-10k+ depending on how lucky you are for parts and how much you can save on labour. BUT IMO if you can find a FI'd car already you would save alot of cash. Wasn't there one on here with forged internals?

I have put so much money into Rx7's, which i have thoroughly enjoyed to be fair, but now i just want a car i can get in and enjoy perhaps with some light fettling over time. I would imagine with all my projects there has been a 50/50 split with time spent doing and time spent driving and appreciate you will never get your money back. The sad truth with Rx7's at the moment is they hold a higher value as parts than as a whole, they are often returned to standard and the aftermarket parts sold on. Perhaps this is a sign of the economic times or perhaps a sign of the popularity of the car, its been discussed a lot in that community. I would certainly not be spending £5k ish on a new supercharger kit and then fitting for example. If i were to buy a base car i would be looking at 2nd hand fi parts. I know many importers who are bringing in from Japan with the sole intention of breaking and that seems to span the whole jdm model range, skylines, supras etc etc

Still here look up twin turbo zed in spotted on eBay.

I have seen that and hopefully not to upset any Zed owners, if i had £18k burning a whole in my pocket it wouldnt be spent on one. I appreciate it is an awesome car and must have had 1000's and 1000's spent but it wouldnt be for me :)

  16. The answer to your question is circa 10K upwards.

An early car with a supercharger without a build is what you would get for circa 10K

Prices will vary considerably, all depends if charged or turbo'd and if the motor has been built.

    Alex. :)

    Thanks buddy :)

  17. FI is expensive and risky but the rewards are :)

Could you elaborate on the "risky" bit please, are we talking, too much stress on engine, driveline components etc

Not so much to much stress but MORE of course. If it`s not tuned properly it`s not likely to last 5 minutes. You also need to factor in other upgrades such as suspension, tyres, brakes. Making a stock 350z pushout 400+ hp is ok but if you actually want to drive it all the previously mentioned parts are a MUST,

I have done 5 Rx7's buddy, so know the pitfalls and extras that are never considered over and above the engine work.

A curious question but any thoughts and views on whether the auto box would be able to withstand the same 400bhp ish mark. It may seem odd but i have my reasons, its not set it stone that i want an auto however :)

  18. Hi guys, first post outside of the welcome page, thanks for a warm welcome :)

What would or should i expect to pay for a fi'd z?

Coming from Rx7's, i know the price can vary massively for single turbo conversion (i guess an equivalent mod on them. cost etc), so what sort of prices are we looking too and from :)
