  1. Seen this on my recent search for a Zed.

I guess the best i can say is, you cant blame a guy for trying.

With what i have seen available sat there not selling i would say unless he finds one of those ideal punters with more money than sense he should be taking someones arm off at the "bids" (read friends bidding it up) he has if real.

  2. Ye I'm worried about mine at track days

On the way up to 4500rpm it was over 100dB, easily

Keeping it at 4500rpm produce about 96dB if I remember right?

Then letting off the throttle caused it to shoot back up to over 100...I can't even imagine what a driveby would be like

    What exhaust do you have?

There is a bit of knack with the statics, make sure the car is nice and warm, dont just bang it straight up to 4500k, build it slowly so you dont get any resonance and keep your foot on the clutch as to avoid gearbox noise :)

Lol, you really need to hear his exhaust...

Sounds like one i should avoid if hoping to hit db tests :)

  4. Brands are strict and will check every car in and out of the pits.

Cannot remember what their limit is but it on their web site.

Brands is anywhere from 102 - 105 static from memory :)

  5. You have to have something pretty damn loud to not pass them tests at 4,000RPM.

Aks smudgedon, we did a test on his and I think it was 98DB which is deafening to say the least.

My Kakimoto is about 90DB, which is not THAT loud... I dont think.

You would be surprised at 4500rpm only a meter away, a buddies TVR was 104db (every 3db increase is rougly twice as loud), lol and his girlfriends standard Porsche 911 was 96db. A lot depends on tone as well.

  6. Done a search and not much mentioned about db levels for track enthusiasts. Going to try to attend some local meets to get some ideas but from here and you tube clips, i am pretty smitten with the HKS.

Castle Combe will probably be the strictest i attend, 98db at 4500rpm static 1m away from the tip. Any ideas or personal experiences with track noise tests.

  7. Total newbie to this forum so not sure if my opinion counts but have been scouring the world of 2nd hand zeds out there for the last two weeks or so, even put a post up about the amount of cat c & d's i have seen. If only on a comparative to what else i have seen in the cat c & d bracket this seems fairly priced, plus you have the bonus of seeing the damage and its repair stage, something highly unlikely with any other cat c or d out there, which was mentioned in my thread when it comes to buying one. Is it worth it, only a potential buyer can tell you that :)

  8. Mileage has minimal effect, like I said, around the 5k mark

I wouldn't be touching a Z anywhere near the 5k mark! Its the bottom end of the market for a reason.

It really depends what you want the car for, if its for the engine and a bit of fun on the weekends an 03 JDM would do you proud but if your looking for a top spec car with all the goodies and a service history be prepared to pay 8k. Yes they are near enough the same age and the same engine but the spec/colour on a Z changes the price drastically.

According to the info on here, jdm cars "can" have all the same equipment as UK cars.

The only thing i have not seen mentioned is cruise control, it doesnt seem that popular on other jdm cars so dont know whether the jdm 350's have it, maybe someone could confirm?

  9. I'd rather buy a car that had done 10K miles a year than one that had done 2K if I'm honest. Cheap sports cars are meant to be used and are better for it, rather than just left to sit there.

*runs from Chesterfield and Beavis* ;)

I think it depends on usage, if those 2k miles a year have been urban driving, stopping and starting, accelerating, slowing down and accelerating etc i would prefer a higher mileage thats been sat at 70 odd mph on a motorway. Trouble is there is no way of knowing i guess.

  10. A bit jaded with the whole car market at the moment, imho with any car it all comes down to if you, want, need or have to sell. I have seen some beautiful cars (varying) advertised at sensible money just sat there for months and the price comes down and down.

Was just curious about mileage and if z owners feel it demands a premium :)

    Thanks :)

  11. Anything like an Impreza or Evo is built for the sole intention (from its rallying heritage) of being very quick point to point, so up to 80mph ish they are very fast, but in my experience once they hit 80 or so they hit a wall, they are also not geared for top end, more for acceleration, they are also as aerodynamic as a brick. I have driven various Imrezas, owned a wrx wagon and also an ra version (lightweight, different gearing etc), also owned an evo4, not much would get past you up to 80 ish and then they would reel you in very quickly (private road track of course).

  12. it would almost seem that the americans were bigheaded

 Well similar set ups on rx7's over here net about 50+ less hp than comparative usa ones, so, read into that what you will :p

  13. theres still alot of supercharger installs in the states. im getting the supercharger because ive had the turbo cars and like you fancy a change. you will probably get more torque with the turbo set up. Ive also found that some of the americans run pretty unsafe setups. i seen on an american forum there was a guy running fi at over 500hp on stock injectors and fuel pump!

From my time with rx7's its well discussed that american dyno results are notorious for over reading.

  14. Seems like a lot of the guys in the usa go down the turbo route, i am pretty set on supercharged as i fancy a change from a turbo.

Anyone know why they prefer them, or should i say, they seem more popular, bigger figures achievable etc? :)

  15. The price varies between what its worth and what people think its worth. For an early zed, your looking around the 5k mark

Sure i get that, but not the question i am asking or talking about.

What value would be put a lower mileage.

  16. So guys & girls, i have been scouring high and low this week and not surprised to see prices literally differing by £3k pounds for same spec, same year/model cars. Obviously i have not viewed in the flesh so cannot speak for overall condition, but none have looked hanging (although photos can be deceiving)

So with that in mind, let say take a 03 - 04 Average mileage to be 80 -100k or north of.

I know mileage depends a lot on its usage, if its sat on a motorway for 50% or more of its miles i would prefer an average mileage than one thats done 50k to 60k life being used in town.

So what kind of figure do you put on a lower mileage if you know its history, weekend/2nd car perhaps which has been well cared for.

I will say from my readings, 100k miles is nothing for one of these engines if well maintained.

  17. Why? That's the best way I could think of to describe it. It's not as white as a gloss white car. Just look through my old posts & see

I dont wont creamy, lol :)

Looks like the dark grey is now heading the bill or something with a matt grey wrap if its cheap enough to start with :)

But still, if anyones local with a white/cream one, i would love to see in the flesh as been mislead by photos before.

  18. I had a Pearl White for 3 years.

Pics make it look pretty flat, but when in sunlight it shows up blue flecks in the paint (that's the pearl).

Hides all manor of scratches and swirls pretty well. But looks epic when buffed up with Dodo Juice wax.

Mmmmm, i like the concept of flat white, not sure i like the pearl concept, thats why i would like to see one in the flesh.

In my newbie post in the welcome section i put up a photo of an Rx7 i had sprayed in Lamborghini Ballon white, it wasnt as nice in the flesh as i thought, £1800k later, lol :)

  19. yes its the CAT C one, i phoned the old owner about it, who said it drove superb and hes owned 3 and didnt feel any defects in the body or the way it drove, i believed him since he has nothing to gain now hes got rid of the car, so that one is still in the pipeworks for me, you gave me a idea now i started my own post to view any 350z as i have not seen or been inside one for real.

Personally i think thats strong money for a Cat C :)

  20. Well im looking at 2, one is original white but the other is Ice White sprayed, Either way more than welcome to come have a look, i love talking cars etc. I have a dolce gusto coffee machine too ;)

But might be a couple more weeks before i physically purchase one, i have the cash, but in the research and search mode at the moment.

Keep me posted, i might beat you to it :)

Think i have seen the ice white one advertised, Cat C one, is that it?

  21. i have not got a 350z yet, but am currently in the process of buying one that is white, and had to reply simply because im from Dorset

Is it the original white buddy, would you mind if i swung by once you have it :)
