  7. FYI you can run non standard plates if your car is actually imported (as the vehicle is not designed to run full size uk plates).. Believe mine are actually trike plates! Found out as it was queried during an mot a few years ago.
  8. Timsons copied my blade for their standard key fee, can't remember exactly but it was cheap, about £7 or so, including the new blade. Not had a fob copied though so can't help there. £70 to copy the blade is insane!
  9. ...must stick with oem replacement time That was replacing with the fancy ass Bosch batteries! The problem was charging the batteries all the time after full discharge...
  10. I tried a solar trickle charger before I started this thread, but it was crap! Which to be fair, could have something to do with living 'oop North in winter, where there's precious few daylight hours. Bought the Optimate, no issues since

    Monza

Too old to read Jixamans tiny writing, so here's my 2p. The Z is the perfect car for this trip Long distance GT cruiser, enjoy! I'm just back from a 3k mile Alps and Nurburgring trip from Scotland and did similar with the addition of Monaco and Swiss Alps last summer! Tips: Electric tape to block the far left of your light beam saves you £8 on deflectors that don't work all that well anyway Fuel is cheaper here than continent, top up at Dover/Folks, (with the exception of Luxembourg, which is super cheap). Italy was crazy expensive ,last year. Also, lots of fuel station auto pay machines wont accept your UK card, and many are unmanned at night! Apart from the obvious fluids/brakes/tyres checks. Check your fan motors are running, it's hot in summer and you're driving so far it's pretty likely you'll hit a jam at some point. You don't want to cook your engine! Speed camera warnings, my Tomtom only warns you of 'dangerous' bits of road in France, which just happen to coincide with fixed cameras... France has new rules now, excessive speed = 3day ban and a fine, on the spot. ie you can't drive off the motorway unless you have another insured driver... If you get really heavy footed they now just take 750 euros as a deposit so you turns up to court, and or they take your car. be careful. Having said that, 90ish on payage has been fine for me. Payage, if you're on your own, but even if not get the liberte toll tag, you can drive straight through the tolls at 20odd mph, you get a bill in the post. Can save loads of time in ques/running round your car to pay! Germany has the highest standard of driving in the EU, by miles! I LOVE driving there, added bonus of unlimited autobahns, but be careful in the bits with limits, they're enforced! Belgian drivers on the other hand are mostly blind muppets who enjoy tailgaiting at any speed you happen to be doing, and cutting you up no matter how fast you're going, enjoy... Have fun, and don't worry about the fuel bills
  12. 2 new batteries in the space of 2 winters (although the initial battery lasted 5yrs!). Now use an optimate all winter
  13. And/or steering wheel lock, pull ignition fuse too. Good luck!
  14. Not sure if this has been mentioned before but after spending far too long bleeding the bleeding clutch line, a quick tip: If you're having issues building pressure, but are seeing few/if any air bubbles coming out when bleeding using the standard method (5 pumps of clutch, hold pedal down/open/close/leave 5 sec/repeat) then try manually pressing the slave fully in whilst opening the bleed screw briefly. Worth doing a couple of times. I've bled this line a few times now, the standard method has worked fine every other time, but this time I had the entire system dry after changing a few lines and it just refused to build any pressure at all. Was ready to give up and go buy a power bleeder! A few times bleeding while depressing slave and an instant response! I'd go for a few more rounds of the standard bleed after you've done this to ensure no air has gone back into the flex line. Have fun
  15. Funny what your car 'says about you'... Also pondered the Monaro/VXR8 when I bought the Zed! And longingly look at the new GTRs for hours on autotrader, prices coming down but servicing is silly money though One big plus for the Zed is that maintenance is easy DIY and it's old enough that a dealer stamp is no longer a worry for me.
  16. Yep I can post, pm me your details. As above reckon it'll be around a tenner. Cheers
  17. As above! The car's getting on a bit now (2005), and whilst it just sailed through it's MOT I can't help but wonder how long before things start going wrong on a regular basis... I only ever planned to keep her 2/3yrs, but that was 7yrs ago!!!!!!!!!! So i'm in my twice yearly 'what if?' autotrader search! The problem is, the cars not worth much these days, circa £5-6k I guess, so it would mean fronting up a fair whack to get the same kind of performance. Also, i've already changed the clutch and brakes all round, so that should cover the most expensive service items for a few years. So, hypothetically speaking, what have you moved on to / what do you fancy next? Money no object i'd have Merc C63 AMG, but don't really fancy finding an extra £30k... So will no doubt run the Z another year or two Cheers
