  1. There seems to be quite a bewildering array of stuff on their website! What Dinitrol stuff will you be using ??
  2. Cool, so the plan i reckon should be... Rust treatment (if any), then a clean (degreaser), dry, key+white spirit, apply electrox, then a couple of coats of dynax UB. Sound about right? Thanks again for the help mate
  3. The Bilt hamber stuff does look good, i just had a look through most of their range and as you've described you can pretty much take care of the whole thing with their products. The deox gel looks really fiddly and difficult to remove from the underside of the car, would another option be to use hydrate 80 to convert any potential rust spots? Would an alternative to the white spirit for cleaning be to go over with the surfex HD degreaser and rinse off? (just looking at alternatives in case i can't get hold of certain things - although whitespirit ain't hard to get lol!). My plan would be to pretty much do the whole underside excl. the exhaust. Is there anywhere else that needs protecting ? Taking off the liners and do the wheel arches too for example? cheers.
  4. Hello again! No it was just a friendly discussion when i had my 200sx' bonnet resprayed. The car is rust free. Dblock, with regards to the bilt hamber stuff, will this be something your going to do yourself or are u having a workshop do it for you? If by yourself, does it just go straight on or is any prep required ? Thanks for the responses
  5. Hey guys, I know this has been covered a few times and i've read the threads on here. What i wanted to know was, is there a consensus with zed owners about rust protection? My car is a daily so it gets driven in the winter and the rain. Never driven on snow or ice so that means to exposure to salt. I spoke to a paintwork specialist i know and he recommends waxoyl over underseal due to underseal being very brittle, waxoyl copes with stone chips better. Are there specialists out there that people recommend? Or would it better to simply rinse and then clean the underside of the car with a big can of WD-40 and go over with a can of clear waxoyl from halfords? Or would just a rinse and big spray of WD-40 do it? Many thanks
  6. No im afraid i don't i would like them to be blueprint, ferrodo or mintex OE items, but i doubt it. They are bright red! lol Thanks for the recommendations, a few other peeps have mentioned the place in fleet. Got to order my gearbox oil from the Zman
  7. Cheers! Have you got a build thread I can look at? Your Zed looks immense!
  8. Ta! I don't know about you guys and gals, but the perfect xmas present to myself will be 2 days of long road trips in my Zed, find some great roads, great views
  9. Thats a fair point, i've always looked for independent specialists for any of my cars in the past. The zed, being the best car i've ever owned, should be no exception for that. It was the convenience aspect to, drop the car off and only a 10 min walk to work. I initially spoke to a few people about Halfords Autocentres (prev. Nationwide autocentres) and were told they dont hire anybody from the halfords branches, just their own trained mechanics, no pubescent trainees. Sums it up really, two attempts to get brake pads right... 'nuff said :-/
  10. You're like the 6th and 7th people to tell me that :-/. Initially i thought that getting free pads, for ever and ever, as often as i need them, would be a good idea for a 300hp monster lol! Maybe not a good idea taking a Zed to an autocentre, more suited for corsas and focuses i reckon ?? Good news though, exactly as the Zman predicted, was the backing plate touching the rotor
  11. All the help has been great, also confirming some of my suspicions. I will mention the shims to them as you recommended too, because its very likely that the shims could have been neglected completely. Cheers Zman, really appreciate the advice. p.s ill be in touch with you later this week to confirm my order, minus the plugs if thats ok
  12. haha I'm sure Zugara was just informing me. Thanks Vik, no intention to offend, no gender assumption was made Having said that, my 'female' friends do laugh when i say "y'allright buddy!"
  13. lol i have friends, who are women, and i call them mate, buddy etc The brake fluid was changed, but i can't imagine the brakes working properly if there was air in the system. The OSF brake doesn't appear to be sticking either.
  14. I'll ring them first thing in the morning, thanks for the advice mate
  15. The sound doesn't happen when applying the brakes, super quiet operation etc. Are there heat shields/ disc shields on the front discs?? Maybe they dislodged it?? The sound is similar to when you have pads with no meat, squeeze the brakes and get the awful scraping noise lol!
  16. That's sort of what im thinking, dust/foreign matter in the way, getting hot and causing the noise possibly ? Another thing im thinking lol. Or they are possibly not there !? This is annoying, only had the zed for a week!
  17. Hi Everyone, So..... i've got this noise lol. Had new pads fitted and after driving for about 5-10mins i'm getting an alarming grinding noise under acceleration (past 20 mph) and under deceleration. I'm thinking its something to do with the pads, or a drive belt rubbing somewhere as the pads were done and the belts were inspected, yesterday. Maybe i shouldn't use halfords autocentre lol. Their brakes4life offer was very tempting! Thanks guys.
  18. Thanks for the recommendations guys My spidey sense went crazy at reading this! Is it Halfords as in the nationwide chain Halfords? Do you really trust them with something as vital as your brakes? Annoyingly your spidey sense could be right. Driving home after they did the front pads and under acceleration and deceleration i'm hearing a grinding noise, offside front area. I'm pleading with myself that a wheel bearing hasn't gone because it started doing it as soon as i drive about 100 yards from the garage, so i'm thinking pads or an aux drive belt rubbing something (they did inspections also). Im going to post a technical thread so you can all laugh at me lol.
  19. Everyone, thank you so much for the warm welcome That sounds great thank you! That's what i want really, a chance for more practise, getting good at oil changes, fluid changes etc etc. I'll be pm'ing you soon in that case Have you got a link/name ? is it service4service? Olympian nissan? Got my Zed booked in at Halfords Autocentre for new coolant, brake fluid, fuel system clean tomorrow, also front pads and signed up for their Brakes4life plan, which should come in handy, never having to pay for brake pads ever again ! Also, got a quote from the Zman for OEM gearbox oil and molyslip, will be confirming that with him tomorrow, would do it now but i have to see how broke i will be tomorrow lol But overall, she's gettin' some love
  20. I love that thread, you should consider renaming it to Zedtopia or Zedpedia lol! Incredible car. This pic is great http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... ip/RS5.jpg I do appreciate that, having the mechanical knowledge of a baboon i'm a keen learner. So i might hold you to that if your up for offering some hands on tuition!
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome guys Im not entirely sure what the ZED SHED is but it sounds awesome! Is it welcome to anyone with a Zed and parts in their hands? or is it yours and Keyser's personal thing ?? (Don't slate the newboy!)
  22. Cheers buster, you've just reminded me of another question i need to ask! Do you know of any independent Nissan specialists in Hampshire ??
