  1. Wow - glad I was 17 in the late 60s - no hang on a minute that means I am now old - damn. The thought of some of the things we did in cars then scare me now - but then there is only so much you can do in a Standard 10
  2. It will be very interesting to see how you feel about the z after having had the 911. I'd have loved a 911 but the potential costs worried me a bit. Many of the porker adverts would have a sentence like "£4,000 spent in last 12 months" to say how well looked after it was - but it kinda put me off. Trouble is it probably doesn't pay to buy a cheap one - which was all I could afford. Whilst the Z isn't cheap to run I don't feel I have to worry about anything horrific - most of the problems that occur seem solveable for a vaguely reasonable sum.
  3. Don't do it in the Zed with the drivers window open a crack either Aha... noted thank you
  4. It might not -it depends in what gear those particular readings were taken. I think its also a case of a slower (rather than absolutely lower) throttle response in the first 3 gears - so if the throttle has been opened for a few seconds it may then give 100%. Abbey would know.
  5. Another quite amusing thing is operating the windscreen washers on an old Caterham when the roof is off. I only did it once
  6. and good luck.

  8. The Royale Sabres always looked pretty high quality to me compared to others.
  9. As this thread is being taken very seriously, I have been carrying out analysis on some of my past purchases: Pearl - nil return Silver - Nissan QX/Toyota Corolla/Alfasud Red - Rover 216Gti TC/VW Jetta 1300c/Alfa 145 Orange - Caterham/Citroen 2CV Brown - Morris Marina 1700L White - VW Polo 1.0/Nissan Micra Colette Dark Green - Peugeot 304/Austin A35 Yellow - Westfield Gold - Hillman Hunter Super Auto Dark Blue - Hillman Minx/350Z Grey - Toyota Corolla/Peugeot 309Gti Black - Morris Minor I conclude that this eclectic mix of cars and colours makes me the complete person. May I hasten to add that I did not own all of these cars at the same time (I only have 1.5 cars now)
  10. Today 2pm. Private plate.
  11. My concern for a road car would be how does the car react to bumps at speed, particularly during cornering - the roads in Surrey are seriously bad. Suspension is a real art - Lotus get it - they manage to get cars with a low centre of gravity, which react well to cornering forces but which are still compliant - that is not an easy thing to achieve - the combination of springs, arbs, dampers, bushes, geometry, tyres, pressures, etc.
  12. Do you have a copy Neil? I see your not far from me hint hint I used to have a copy and another book about building fast road cars which had good basic info about suspension. I will have a look tomorrow - either in garage or loft and I will PM you once I know. You are welcome to borrow if I have them.
  13. to the forum.
  14. If you were to read the early sections of Alan Staniforth's book about Competition Car suspension that would give you a lot of the basic info about geometry which is the critical issue.
