My zed no longer goes anywhere near supermarket/public carpark now that I have a shed. 4 (admittedly very small) dings in various panels are enough for me ta.

It does live on a road atm, but touch wood it's ok! The street is very quiet and has marked parking bays, one of which is handily big enough for my two cars only

Interesting..........I have a very similar issue at the mo and it's deffo not bushes as they have all been renewed with superpro items pretty recently. Was thinking ARB droplinks so will have to check it out properly.

I've used these since I first had the zed serviced after I bought it, purely because it was pretty, I do like a bit of HKS, and they're still pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things Can't say I ever noticed any performance difference on the road though!

Wow, apparently the other parties garage has said "£2000 and a week to repair. New bumper, respray whole rear of the car, rear wheel arch damaged". Now I'm angry, our car has a tiny scratch on the bumper and my missus was doing about 5mph in 1st, so how can that be true!!!

 

Will be getting her to phone our insurance right away and explain that the other party is trying it on...........

 

Insurance company wont care less about it. They will just pay out. Then use it as a reason as to why insurance premiums are so high.

 

My wife also did the same "run in back of car at roundabout" in her 206 Gti. The other car only had a scratch on it, but like with your guys, they claimed for everything possible so it had to go through insurance. My wifes insurance company jacked her premium up so much for the following year that she could no longer afford to insure her car and had to sell it and get an ancient old heap of a car which still cost twice as much as her old car did to insure.

Yep renewal time will be interesting next year! Have calmed down a bit now - at the end of the day no-one was hurt and it will be out of our hands once my missus has spoken to the insurance

Thanks Steve that's what I thought on both points. I guess I would be after a new bumper too if I was in the zed and someone did that to me!

Update: my girlf has heard from the other party who is going through her insurance as the garage has told her there is 'a lot of damage'. This is blatant bullsh*t which is what I feared would happen, and without photos we can't prove otherwise

Would appreciate some advice here please.

As some of you may know I bought a runaround recently for me and my missus to share. Well, unfortunately she has managed to have a bump in it Classic new driver error of running into the back of someone at a roundabout, so fortunately nothing too serious.

Anyway, she has swapped details with the other party, but didn't take any photos. The other party is now going away to get quotes for a small crack and dent in the bumper of her mini cooper. I'm hoping she will be honest and not try to sting us for a whole new bumper!!

Having (touch wood) only been involved in one accident years ago myself, the question I have is what we should do next re: our insurance company. The car is insured in my girlfriend's name and as she is a new driver I obviously do not want to claim on my insurance under any circumstances.

Do I need to tell our insurance anything? Or just wait for the quote to come back from the other party (and hope that it's not too massive), and then pay them the cash?

Depends what you term as a 'good bike'. For what you're going to use it for it will be absolutely fine, but it's a pretty old model now and was fairly 'budget' at the time in terms of MTBs, so if you want to do some off-road riding it won't be long before you're wanting/needing to upgrade components. The frame sounds fairly reasonable though so it would be an ok base to upgrade from. One of my bikes is an old Kona hardtail which hasn't been ridden much in the last few years but the frame was stil going strong 10 years after I got it (even though everything else had been replaced pretty much!).

Chain lube wise I would recommend some of this stuff http://www.chainreac...x?ModelID=10048

To clean, get one of these on the case http://www.chainreac...px?ModelID=5783 Or in the past I've removed the chain with a link remover tool and degreased thoroughly before refitting and re-lubing. Remember, the chain does not need much oil! A small dab in each link, let it soak in, and then wipe away excess with a rag.

Lock wise I haven't got a scooby to be honest - I only ride my bike for pleasure rather than transport and so it doesn't get left anywhere unattended.

Quick update. Went car shopping last weekend and bought.............

A 54-plate Corsa Sxi! Budget went a bit higher, but not by all that much (especially considering some of the sh*te I saw at c£1,500). Car appears in great nick, 78k miles on it with full history and all manuals, spare keys etc all present and correct. Seems pretty nippy for a 1.2 too

Would have preferred a focus, but my good lady wasn't keen (too big) haha.

Have you had a bad experience mate? Funnily enough after starting this thread I have heard another murmouring about older corsas being junk, but my good lady's parents swear by old vauxhalls. They have a cavalier diesel that's done about 160k miles and their omega only gave up at about 260k..............

I'm going to be buying a shed soon and was after some opinions on what to go for from you nice folk please. The car will be used by me to transport my mountain bike at the weekend and by my girlfriend (who has recently passed her driving test) to drive to and from work. Therefore, I'm after something:

- Cheap as poss to insure for a new driver

- Fits a bike in the back easily (i.e. hatchback)

- Good on fuel

- Reliable

- Up to Focus size

Not really bothered about it being fun to drive as long as long as it does the job!

Budget up to £1,400.

So far I'm thinking of something roughly 10-11 years old in the vein of:

Corsa 1.2

Focus Mk1 1.6 zetec (which would have the bonus of being a half decent steer)

Any other ideas?

20mm spacer should sort you out yep, but Tarmac or CS on here can sort you out with the right offsets, which would be a much better option imo
