  1. I used to run anything from 40 to 60 miles a week back in the day. I guess 90% of my running was on the roads the remainder would be cross country with a little bit of fell running. Started off jogging a couple of miles 2 or 3 times a week and gradually increasing that so after 6 months I was running 15-20 miles a week with my longest run being 5 miles at 7:30 pace. Once I joined a running club my times came down fairly quickly and after 12 months I ran 65:40 in the Llandudno 10 mile race. Despite the fact that I ate like a horse my weight dropped from 80kg's (which is where I'm back to now) to 67kg's, at 1.83m tall I was pretty skinny. After a couple of years my times leveled out and I set my best half marathon time in Hereford aged 42 at 1:20:50. Never really trained to run marathons but I did the London Marathon and The Snowdon Marathon a couple of times

My longest training runs were in the region of 10 miles and I used to carry a plastic bottle of water or dilute orange juice with me on anything over 5 miles, it was one of those that you could wrap around your hand. Things have changed a lot these days though, there were no apps back then or mobile phones so I carefully measured all of my favorite runs using a wheel that I borrowed from the running club :) . If I knew then what I know now then I'd have carbo loaded the evening before a race but I just stuffed myself with whatever was put in front of me. Isotonic drinks were just becoming available back then but all that was available during races was water.

  2. And to just think, without Michael J Fox travelling back to 1955, we'd never have heard his music 😔

That's a good point. He wrote and sang some real classics but they are all well over 50 years old and some over 60 years. You would have to be in your 70's to remember his most prolific period.

  3. Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon and be back to your usual self ;) . I don't know if anyone else has heard this or its an urban myth but gall stones used to be called the "3 F's"...ie Female, Fair and Forty :surrender:, don't think you're any of these though :) .

  4. I usually nip down to ASDA and get a French stick, slice it up, butter it then lightly smear Marmite on it :) . On occasions I'll slice up some Cheshire cheese and put that on top of the Marmite :)

  5. I might actually watch this season . . . well the first few races and see how it goes.

Unfortunately, the first few races are in the middle of the night and I won't be getting up or staying up to watch them. Used to love settling down on a Sunday afternoon but too many of the races are at inconvenient times for me.

  6. Just make sure the new spoiler covers where the old spoiler was otherwise you're looking at a tailgate respray.

Nismo spoiler fits into the existing holes, the ones that attach the lip spoiler. My Nismo spoiler is a replica and needed one of the holes widening in order to get the spoiler square onto the boot.

  7. Not the easiest of jobs for sure. I had a garage remove the old spoiler for me and they made a right mess of the paintwork around it (although they eventually put it right). I believe there are some bolts to undo then you have to tackle the bonding holding the spoiler on which needs to be done very carefully. I don't know how the bonding ages but my Zed was 3 years old when the spoiler was removed and the bonding was like concrete. Hopefully, someone who has actually removed one themselves will be along to give you some advice. I know ChrisS removed his old spoiler but he doesn't appear to be that active on the forum these days.

  8. Illegal ! The zeds classed as a two seater and no signs of any seat belts.

    Yes, the law states,

    • All vehicles manufactured since 2001 must have seat belts fitted for each passenger. If you have added seats (via a campervan conversion) you are outside of this law.

  9. Behind passenger seat....

  10. Back on topic, were the House of Lords right to amend the Brexit bill. We can certainly argue about the make up of the Lords, but as I understand it there is an agreement not to block government bills that were on that party's manifesto and Brexit was not on anyone's manifesto (apart from UKIP's). That's why we have a second chamber, to stop governments pushing through bills at will, I mean what is the point in having a second house if it just rubber stamps every bill it's presented with?

Anyway, can anyone seriously believe that Germany of all countries will expel U.K citizens? The reasons that people go to Germany isn't to work on farms picking fruit or to get a suntan. Most Brits in Germany work in skilled jobs such as engineering and many are married to Germans. While its true that the majority of Brits who leave The U.K go to places like Spain, Portugal, France (Brittany is very popular) and Italy, these people contribute to the local economy in a significant way. Most E.U citizens come here to work or have married Brits, you would have to off your rocker to come here to retire  . So can anyone envisage us sending E.U citizens home, for a start you would need some serious manpower to track down and forceably remove the estimated 2 million E.U citizens and the cost would be astronomical.

So IMHO, what the Lords did was well within its authority but in reality looks like nothing more than a delaying tactic.

  11. The most they can hold anything up for is 364 days, which of course would be a bit of a pain in the Brexit case

They can usually make an act of Parliament to push things through, that's been done a few times, like with the hunting bill, however it won't apply to this legislation as it wasn't in the Governments manifesto, so you're right, if the Lords dig their heels in then a years delay would be the result.

  12. The Lord's is nothing but cronism and an outdated 2nd teir council. Bin them and have an elected upper house put in place. How can democracy be claimed in a modern country when you have unelected ballons shouting down the elected government ?. After all most of them were 3rd rate civil servents who brown eyed the previous Prime Ministers and really have nothing to offer and no right to be shouting down an elected government. I sincerely hope that a general election comes along soon where a major player puts it into their election manifesto that they will reform the Lords and turn it to an elected house of representation for us minions and boot all these old codgers into touch.

Major reform of The House of Lords was in The Labour Party manifesto.............in 1964!! They've been in power for over 20 years since then and all they have done is to reduce the number of hereditary peers, who were in the main Conservatives. The problem is that if you had an elected second house it would lead to similar problems they have in The States with one party blocking the other. If you held the election on the same day as a General Election then it'd most likely go the same way with the same party winning both the Lords and the Commons. If you held the election mid term then it would on most occasions result in the opposition winning and blocking legislation...not good. Anyway, The Lords have limited powers and can't block things indefinitely.

  13. Great news Pete, must be an amazing relief to you all!

Indeed, Caroline has been pretty down had lost her appetite, couldn't sleep and was in a constant state of anxiety. I've had some worrying times but I've remained positive throughout. In some ways its helped that we've had a different attitude to the whole thing, me being positive, Caroline being negative, that way we seem to have balanced each other out. Who knows what the future holds but the outlook is good with long term survival rates being very high for this type of cancer.

  14. Good News!! :yahoo:

After a series of scans and X-Rays Caroline has been given the all clear. We met up with the surgeon yesterday in Wrexham and he gave us the good news and plenty of information regarding the future. First of all, the cancer was a form of skin cancer called "squamous cell carcinoma" which is a non-melenoma cancer, slow growing and not prone to spreading. The surgeon also recommended that Caroline undergoes 6 weeks of radiotherapy which he described together with the surgery as a belt and braces approach. This will initially cause some discomfort and swelling of the skin graft but will help the healing process once the treatment is finished. He gave us a timeline of 12-18 months before the graft will be fully integrated into her surrounding skin. He also said that depending on the final result of the graft he could do some trimming of the graft but he was very happy with progress so far. Of course, Caroline will need to be monitored for quite some time but overall things couldn't really be more positive :) .

  15. I gave them my reg and they came back saying it was built 12/2005

Probably was built then. Although the facelift didn't go on sale until April 2006 it was introduced in Japan in September 2005 and I can't imagine that they made both models at the same time. They probably stockpiled them for a few months.
