  1. Hey there,

I rang today and asked for a quote starting August for my car which I am in the process of purchasing ('05 350Z roadster GT Pack) and my wifes car (Mitsubishi Grandis 7 seater 2005 2.4 petrol classic), with me as main driver on the 350, my wife as main driver on the Grandis.

We both have a trade policy currently and are able to provide a letter stating we have not claimed on the insurance in over 5 years, not only that but the cars I have owned have ranged from Ford Focus to 650bhp Mazda RX7 etc.

I was told I could not have a quote as I have not owned the Zed for a year? Down to my lack of 'experience' (obviously the 10+ performance cars that would run rings around the 350 don't count).

Is this correct or can you quote me after all?

    Regards, Anthony.

  2. Well I have agreed to buy a zed. I test drove the car last night and I was in love straight away. Car is a 350z roadster, 05 36k, full GT pack with Sat Nav + Rays wheels. Other than that totally standard. I was surprised how good the stock exhaust sounds and it is a lovely smooth torquey engine, but that is nothing compared to the taut body and fantastic handling. The car is very comfy for my 6'4" bulk, the sound system sounds great (ghetto ipod mods here we come) and the car itself is in great condition. I didn't like the look of the roadster particularly the back, but in the flesh it looks great. Can't wait to pick it up on Friday agghhhhh too long!

  3. I dont know why people ar getting hung up on losing ~3/4 hp, it will not be noticeable if your down a few hp.

Just pick the one you like the look of & sounds the best, you are never going to get great gains while still N/A.

I learnt a long time ago that N/A mods are a waste of money for the gains achieved

Agreed. A good K&N type filter sounds really damn good, they never really give a power gain but they sound awesome. The sound of a car is all part of the enjoyment of driving, which is why I would buy a 350z and not a 20v audi TT (well and they look terrible) :D

  4. I know that, I meant is there any 'essential' mods. I have done a bit of research and it seems Y pipe, rear silencer, plenum spacer and drop in filter/induction kit seems to work well.

  5. Just a couple of questions for you roadster owners.

    1) How much driver room is there? I am 6'4" and I had no problem with a coupe but the roadster has some kind of bulkhead right behind the back seats.

    2) Can you disable the passenger airbag (I have young children that may occasionally be allowed in the car :D)

    Thanks in advance, Anthony.

  6. Good price, sooo cheap next to having to buy an aftermarket ECU and get that remapped (£1000+ anyone?). Is it £397 + or including VAT? Do they recommend any other mods before getting it done?

  7. Sorry to be a pedant but power at the hubs is not the same as power at the wheels, there is a greater transmission loss using a wheel dyno such as dyno dynamics compared to a dynapack. It is HHP not WHP.

RS tuning in Leeds use a wheel dyno. Abbey hub one as far as i am aware

Yeah I was referring to Abbeys dyno (of which I have used many times with Mark or the old dyno guy Dan), its a hub dyno and a stunning bit of kit.

  8. Of course its shaft speed, after all a piston engine isn't rated in piston speed is it? A rotor spins at 1/3 crank speed which is naturally one of the reasons the crank can spin so quickly. Tips practically never 'wear' out anymore. Even 1st gen RX7's could do well in excess of 100,000 miles before the inevitable low compression would kick in. I had one on 135,000 miles - original engine. Its pre-ignition that normally kills the turbo rotaries or low oil because of numpty RX8 owners ;)

    hehe

I know a numpty rx8 owner... feel sorry for him, nowhere to get it seen to really... rotary what? :D

Poor sod, you have to feel sorry for people that bought one expecting it to be just a normal car. I'm pretty sure 15mpg will quickly convince them otherwise....

There are a lot of specialists though to be fair, somewhere like RX motors in Blandford would do a full rebuild for around £2k. If you just ended up taking the car to the dealer though.... ...bad luck, its an enthusiasts car so need a bit of web forum use to work out the best places to take it.

  9. From my research a few months back, I would probably opt for the K&N Typhoon Induction Kit.

You get a polished intake pipe (colours available), cold air box with scoop from the bumper and carbon fibre lid...plus the filter itself. All for just over £200.

I've still not got round to getting one yet, and might just opt for a simple drop-in filter.

Definitely for maximum power increase you need an airbox of some sort to channel the cold air, however for the best sound something like the pop charger (what a ridiculous name for an induction kit!?!?) is gonna be the way to go. Personally I opt for sound every time :D
