Has anyone looked into LPG conversions on Zeds? Surely that is a possibility?
I remember reading that somebody somewhere has tried it. Afaik it didn't turn out well in the end - and the obvious counter-argument is: if economy is an issue, buy a Toyota Prius!
I think this is the dumbest argument going. Life isn't just all about the loud pedal. I have a roadster for the sound, handling and fun factor - why pay more than I have to to run it? It is just about the only roadster going for around £10,000 that is reliable and comfortable for people over 6'0" tall. Sure I could get some boring FWD cab but they handle badly and sound rubbish. I have had/tried MX5's, MR2 mk3's, S2000's and even the disgusting Audi TT but they are so cramped, maybe a BMW 3 series but frankly I doubt they would really be much cheaper to run anyway. If I had a spare £2000 lying around and I was pretty sure theoretically it was sound I would go for an LPG conversion straight away - it would mean I could use my 350Z every single day and not just 2-3 times a week.
I'm glad so many of you would clearly turn down a £1000 a year or so saving just for the benefit of looking 'cool' on a web forum.

Hi Guys
The garage has just fitted my exhaust and they said they had the normal trouble getting the old one off as garages say to bump the labour up.
I just love this. All garages are out to 'rip you off' right? What a joke. Did it ever occur to you that the garage might have had to spend hours removing the exhaust because of rust and muck effectively welding the joints together? Who's fault is that then? Should the garage have to take a hit because of the condition of a car they do not even own?

I use my wife's car a couple of days a week, its a VW touran 1.9tdi pd and does nearly 50mpg.
Seriously here is my big tip, PAY ATTENTION when you drive. If a roundabout is clear for example try to keep up as much momentum over it by not braking excessively, biggest problem with getting mpg in the uk is the other pillocks that slow down going down slight hills when they should be free rolling and stop for roundabouts and junctions when the way is clear. Getting good MPG is not all about going slowly its about maintaining a constant speed without having to use too much throttle.

It looks great, sadly too many 350 owners are more interested in looks than drive, spacers wreck handling.

I can say HKS super sound master exhaust/air filter elements and a Uprev remap works real well.
We find this will give the car 20bhp and 20lb/ft.and with even give you more fuel econom!.
I will sort a price out tomorrow.
Damn that's impressive on a NA car. I'm guessing Nissans resident petrol sniffer has been doing the mapping again. He just loves running rx7 rich below 3000rpm

Roadster is ugly from the rear but you get an incredible soundtrack with the roof down, I would take a roadster anyday over a coupe Of the same year BUT if the coupe has the las revision engine the HR then it's a much harder choice.

It passes the MOT with flying colours. I was a bit dubious also being that there's only one Cat instead of two, but I have to say it works very well so no need to worry.
Nice thanks, good to hear.

We normally get between 250 and 260 HUB bhp with the mods you have quoted including doing something with the cats.
My own UK 2004 350z is running ART de-cats and XYZ with no CAT , No PLENUM spacer stock 04 airbox with HKS filter runs 254bhp at the hub,s with a good UPREV tune. I feel it may give another 5/10bhp with a plenum spacer, drives real nice very strong mid-range.
Mark
So my own setup is real similar to Marks apart from the plenum spacer and I DO have a cat, albeit the Motordyne one, mine made pretty much 260 at the hubs:
Mark you got any experience on how people get on with these Motordyne race cats as I need to get mine MOT'd in a few weeks.

I went for some cheapo resonated decat pipes and the Motordyne race catalyst that sits just behind the XYZ pipe (it's sort of part of it, you replace the straight through pipe). It does make a lovely sound and I only have a stock back box. Made decent power too, best part of 300bhp with only some very minor mods.
Thanks Mark for the response.I installed the Scorpion cat-back exhaust yesterday.
I am thinking either stock cats or berk high flow cats? Are they worth the £450-500 they seem to sell for, online?
The only reason I dont want de-cats is I want the car to be road legal / MOT passable. I take it Berk HFC ARE Emissions legal?
I take it the Motordyne 5/16" is probably the better one to go for? I take it a general greese monkey mechanic would be able to fit this with no problems too? lol.
Do yourselves SELL and/or fit the common bolt on modifications I previously mentioned (Plenum Spacer, XYZ Pipe and HFC)
Is the XYZ proven to give any considerable gain over standard as I dont want to spend too much money for very little returns. More after bang for buck?
Cheers Mark.

If I try *really* hard I get 28mpg on my trip to work averaged over 2 weeks, this is mostly around town miles. If I drive normally like I don't care 22mpg. On the motorway I can get 35@ c70mph.

My 350z roadster does not leak, my S2000 didn't leak either. Personally as long as the body is as stiff I would take a convertible every time, one of the great things about driving is sound, with the hood sound the noise is just glorious!

I've been trying for months now with no joy, to locate an Ebisu Black 370 in any scale
I've tried most of the suppliers on flea bay and most of the manufacturers directly, but no joy
Anyone know of anywhere that definately has one?
Transformer or just a normal Die-Cast?
-
I got mine from Ebay for about £20 including postage which was somewhat more sensible than the £35+ you normally pay. You just need to keep your eyes open really
-
Yes I am a saddo Transformers collector. Picked this up the other day from the 'Alternity' series. Personally I think its awesome, plenty of nice metal bits too, not plasticy crap like the movie toys.
Bonnet an doors open too and it has a full interior like a die cast model. The robot is actually Megatron. (Fairlady Z's are evil cars hehe)

Shocking, brings it all home how dangerous cars can be. Very sad.

After my last trip to Abbey I got 35mpg on the motorway on the way home.
I have quite a short commute so I get 2 weeks out of 1 tank normally but I do struggle to get great mpg because of the shortish journey with no motorways. Too much stop start. With average driving but nothing really spirited I got 24.2mpg over the tank. Last tank was 22mpg but lots more fun. I am trying for an ultimate economy tank at the moment, very much struggling to keep it above 30mpg despite deploying every trick (including loads of coasting). The way I look at it, I could save about £80-100 a month and have a diesel but I would lose my mind and soul with boredom. I love my Zed and ill put up with the mediocre mpg as its such a great drivers car.

Looks a fantastic bit of artwork if nothing else!!

Thankyou! Bookmarked for wifes viewing.

Yeah it will still work for non lambda issues.
-
btw on your recommendation i got the pop charger and love it. your totally right no issues my end.
the decats you mentioned in your first post. have they caused any CEL lights?
Yes but Abbey took care of that.

I am a site manager in swanage middle school, just a thought have you been in touch with Cterham cars ? they will supply schools with a full kit to build a caterham and you get to keep it a year and then sell it on and that funds the next kit for you.
Wow really? hmmmm.....

ok ok ok show off
what kind of school does this? im going back to school! i work with cars daily and my workshop doesnt look as fun as that
Hehe I will take another pic when I get all the gear in there. It is quite fun but very challenging and tiring. Believe it or not I will probably be doing classes for adults as we do some adult education too.

Excellent way of engaging young people
I've currently got a group going to Knockhill once a week to work alongside the techies in the rally workshops - these are young people who have had extremely poor attendance and behaviour in the classroom and left school with no positive destination- but you should see them pay attention and behave in a different environment
Yes definitely it really makes the difference with kids that just cant get engaged with the normal curriculum. A lot of my students are excluded or close to being excluded.

I thought this may be of interest to some of you. I used to run a garage in Poole and that I am now a teacher. The other day I took some pics on my iphone of my classroom which is 100% set up by me. I teach 11-16 year olds at a secondary school in Southampton, a member of the DT department teaching about motor vehicles.
Its very cool we do engine rebuilds, build petrol radio controlled cars and go-karts and we have a separate workshop with a ramp and a few cars to work on. Personally I think its awesome that we can do this kind of thing in school these days. Wish I could have!

Thankyou for this sage advice! Very true about LPG on most cars, not only 350Z's.
