  1. For the sake of completeness and just in case anyone searches for STARTER MOTOR PROBLEM in the future: Car failed to start. Battery fine; power being delivered to solenoid (detected by audible click when turning the key) but no engine crank at all. Started with a bump start. Worked fine for a week. Stopped working again. Then worked intermittently for another week or so. Took the car to Nissan (Evans Halshaw Leeds) but in typical fashion it worked fine for them so they advised me they could do nothing because they can't diagnose a problem if it is not present when they look at it (makes sense; but obviously didn't help me very much!) All my reading suggested there was a problem with the starter motor (either: 1. faulty hold-on lead, 2. worn bushes, or 3. worn pinion/flywheel? The second one in particular might explain the intermittent failure?) Decided to have the starter reconditioned anyway (there was no obvious fault upon inspection) and it has worked fine since (touch wood!) A new starter from Nissan costs about £540 + VAT by the way!! Potentially a very annoying problem; when the car works some times and not others; you can't rely on it; and garages are telling you they can't do anything because there is nothing wrong! Thankfully a rare problem I think...
  2. Having the car looked at on Wednesday so I'll feedback then. Cheers folks
  3. From the front it reminds me of a 350Z/TVR T350 crossbreed..!
  4. Foot was on clutch... When testing the solenoid etc. there was a very clear audible 'click' which I interpreted as that part of the engine trying to do its job..?
  5. A start up problem. There are some similar posts... but not exact? Couldn't start the car yesterday. Key turns... but nothing happens (no engine crank and the power cuts). Everything else is at is should be. Battery is good... reading 12V going to the solenoid; reading 12V going to the starter motor... but nothing!? Got it started using a push start and then drove home (25 miles). Got home turned the engine off and then restarted it and it worked fine... several times. I will have it looked at (under warranty?) but I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem. The solenoid seemed fine so I am assuming it was the starter motor that was faulty..? Any advice out there?
  6. I had a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo previously - at 200 hp not strictly a really powerful car but given the low mass it did have a higher power-to-weight ratio than 350Z (215 hp per tonne for the VXT). The 350Z lacks the immediacy of the VXT but ain't slow by any means. However, the 350Z does feel particulary torquey and the power is very useable on the road. I do miss the 'kick in the back of the head' acceleration that the VXT could provide... but now I'm simply enjoying a different kind of power delivery... they are both great. I must admit that I did hesitate to buy a 350Z because it does not do 0-60 as fast as a VXT... looking back... that's not really the way to look at things I suppose..!?... Really glad I've got the 350Z.
  7. I live in Rothwell (South Leeds). North Eastern does sound good...
  8. FVSH = Full Vehicle Service History?? Have I made that acronym up!? FSH... does that seem right? Yeah, the VXT's (and Elise's) are notorious for it aren't they? If the rear lets go it's so difficult to regain control... as per any mid-engined car I suppose... as I found out!!!! No Cat C or D though. A good ol' Cat B - never on the road again: someone bought her for just less than £6000 for track use though. I will get the car checked for further damage. The deformation damage on the alloy is very mild... I am hoping it is not a safety issue needing a new wheel. Considering putting in a claim to the local council for the pothole but I understand it can be a real pain...
  9. Hi there, I have been driving a 350Z for five days now. Love the car... the noise, the look, the performance (although I haven't really pushed her yet). My previous car was a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo. Admittedly the 350Z is not quite as fast off the line and doesn't respond with quite the same immediacy, given the difference in mass, but I am NOT complaining... The car is a 53 in silver (GT with Rays alloys) and I bought it with 50,000 miles on the clock. However, it has a FVSH (never missed one) and looks immaculate. Annoyingly: I was enjoying the car last night and I drove over an almighty pothole!! It has dented the rim of the front left alloy slightly. The handling or suspension does not seem to have been affected. I think this could be repaired quite easily (and I was considering a full alloy refurb shorlty anyway) but would you have the suspension or geometry checked? Any advice appreciated. I'll post some pictures soon. Located in Leeds by the way... Matt
