  1. Which was just as well :). Actually I don't think that the 350Z is any less solid. I was rear ended (altjough at a much lower speed) by a twonk at a roundabound a few months ago and the paint work was not even scratched (had her checked out and no structural damage either). Twonk was going to have to explain a broken front bumper to Hertz. Although I do prefer my 350Z because it handles far better (I've not yet spun her through 360 when applying an over heavy right foot in the wet) and looks far cooler, I do occasionally miss the kick in the back as the turbos kicked in.
  2. Ouch, I feel for you. I stopped for an amber light and some dork in a repmobile drove straight into the back at me. Didn't you see that camera I yelled at him as he locked his doors and threatened to call the police if I hit him . Funny thing was that the whole of the front of his car was crumpled and spewing steam while my old 300ZX-TT only had a fairly minor crack on the rear bumper which his insurers had to pay for. So far (touch wood) never had any points in 25 years. Got stopped once in Canada for over 100 in a 50 limit for road works, which just like the UK had nobody working, but the cop showed pity when he saw that I was taking our very ill dog to the emergency vet. My Garmin is useful for indicating where the fixed cameras are, but the damn thing has nearly got me caught a couple of times because its country road speed limits are out of date, showing a 60 limit when it is now a 50
  3. Just carry set of Nissan Micra bulbs. The average French cop makes Wayne Rooney look like a mastermind, so they probably won't be any the wiser
  4. 55 plate and hit 50k miles last week. Sad thing is that this time last year she was on 33k
  5. Are you sure the rules have changed? The DirectGov web site still catagorically states that road tax is based upon date of first registration in the UK for a car that has been previously registered in another country. Was yours registered before 23rd March?
  6. Mine was the first one that I saw. Sunset with Alezan seats, Drooooool. Just as well it was a good one because I traveled from just just South of Oxford to York to see it. Had it checked by a mechanic before handing over the cash though.
  7. 3D. Very much doubt that road tax is cheaper than UK cars, if anything potentially more expensive for imports because the road tax is based upon the year that the car was registered in the UK rather than when it was built, so a new import of a 2003 would be a lot more expensive road tax wise than a 2003 imported prior to 2006.
  8. After sending a very terse eMail directly to the complaints department of my my current insurer, I received an apolegetic eMail from them followed by a phone call from the broker saying that there has been a misunderstanding and that they would insure my wife and also match the Direct Line price, so I'm staying with them after all. This one hickup aside I have always been very happy with NIG, although my claims dealings with them in the past has always been with no fault claims. Had 2 in just over a year and each time they waived the excess because of the circumstances of the incident. My old 300ZX TT was a bit of a burke magnet. In the 8 years that I had it I was rear ended twice, side swiped once and hit by a removal lorry in my company car park. Fortunately, all no fault claims. BTW, does anyone know how much lee-way you have on the maximum annual mileage that you give them. Was within it last year, but moved house since and although the maximum miles that I gave them should be OK there is always the possibility of overshooting it if we take the Zed to Europe instead of my wife's car.
  9. Wroughton, quite a nice area just outside of Swindon. As much as anything I'm fuming because my current insurers refuse to add my wife to the policy as a named driver bevause to quote them "she does not have expereince of driving such cars" and because of one silly small claim in Canada that was not even a traffic accident. But they quite happily insured her as a named driver on the 300ZX TTs that I had before we went to Canada for 4 years. The 350Z is a far easier and safer car to drive!!!!!!!
  10. L&V won't insure a Zed with factory fit security Admiral quoted £640 and would cover my wife. In fact £860 with just me on the policy. Bizarre Direct Line have just quoted £520 including my wife. Was £490 without her. Looks promising for them. I suspect they would have been too expensive normally, but they are willing to accept proof of no claims from our Canadian insurance companies The issue with my wife and my current insurance company is bizarre. They were quite happy to insure her for many years in my 300ZX TT before we went to Canada and we survived 4 years without any proper accidents driving in a country where you drive in deep snow and on sheet ice for many months of the year. I don't see how a minor parking dint because someone inconsiderately blocked herein makes her uninsurable.
  11. 52 year old male, never had an points on my license and max no claims bonus before working abroad for 4 years. Now, after one year back in the UK, everyone wants at least £600 (OK, so I need to do 18k miles a year, but...) from me and that is with my pre UK departure company giving me a 4 year introductory discount. BUT, they refuse to add my wife to the policy because of one small claim by a 3rd party in Canada about a year and a half ago (Clipped car which was blocking her in our garage). - Chris Knott. Came close last year, but this year want £742. Beats me why. No accidents, convictions or anything, so why has it gone up by 25%? - Sky. Probably won't touch me because I was not driving in the UK for the past 2 years. That was the story last year. Anyone any ideas????
  12. Thanks guys. Loos like the jury is out on this one. I'll just have to make it clear to them that they will end up with a sunset coloured supository if they break anything
  13. I'm sure that this has been mentioned before, but search is refusing to throw up anything related to MOT on my PC. I think that I recall that there is part of the stadard MOT test that must not be done to the Zed. Is that the case? Just moved home, so giving our local MOT center a go, but don't want to end up with a knackered Zed.
  14. This thread has started to depress me. Paid 13.5k for a 55 plate sunset UK GT with 32k miles almost exactly a year ago. Seemed a good price at the time that matched the guides but seems sort of expesive compared to what I've seen here On the other hand the guy who inspected it for me reckoned it was the best example of a used one that he had ever seen and not a single hickup in the 12 months that I've had her (18k miles later)
  15. I gave up using a FM transmitter as well. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get interference or whistle free sound from it. Must be something the Zed's electrics, becuase it used to work well with my old Subaru Outback. So, went the tape deck connector route as well which works pretty well after many attempts at persuading the Bose not to spit it back out. Only downside is the white cables look crap running over the dashboard. Being a bit tone deaf the Bose has always been good enough for me, but after seeing an article that the government is going to keep the last government (cough) policy of killing off the FM stations, is it possible to get a digital radio head unit that still allows you to use the blue tooth?
  16. Is it me, or is the speedo in Zed not conveniently positioned for glancing at the speed. I actually find it easier to glance at the speed on my Garmin satnav attached to the windscreen. Interestingly, if the GPS on the satnav is to be belived, my speedo is spot on at 30mph but tends to under read by about 5% or just over at motorway speed.
  17. But which is worse, eyes on the road doing just over the speed limit or eyes glued to your speedo doing exactly or just below the speed limit? In Swindon they have stopped using fixed speed cameras and accidents have in anything dropped because drivers are now watching the road.
  18. Put a sprinkler in the front garden that will "coicidently" turn on every time anyone comes near the car. A good soaking should put them off. When we lived in Canada it was in a new development where the house tourists would park with their wheels on our front lawn becuase we were opposte the show homes. Really peed us off. A quick switch of our sprinkler system to manual mode just as they were getting out of their cars normally made them move on pretty quickly. On a more serious note, I don't think it would cost much to take the parents to the small claims court as long as you have one witness to support your claim that you saw them doing it
  19. Cheers, got it on Saturday. £22, they were having a laugh for what is essentially a small piece of sticky back plastic.
  20. Shouldn't joke about eyesight diminishing with age. I was quite happliy wait at the front of the queue at a set of lights on Saturday when an old biddy pulls out of the car park on the other side of the road and back a bit from me, then procedes down the wrong side of the road before neatly pulling in in front of me to wait at the lights. Quite happliy waiting in the middle of the traffic flow going across the junction. She seemed quite oblivious to the chaos that she was causing.
  21. Managed to clip a rock a badly score the underside of the sill on the passenger side just in front of the rear wheel arch. Not particulary visible, but really bugging me so got a Chips Away guy who is happy to tackle a Sunset to come and give me a quote. Problem is that he says that the "squarish" patch on the sill that stands out just in front of the rear wheel arch is a stone chip preventer film and that will need to be removed/replaced, so is this something that can be obtained separatly from Nissan or is it only available as part of the entire sill? Still peeved with myself for not being more careful leaving my driveway.
  22. Has anyone tried the ChipEx kit on a sunset? Caught the under side of the passenger sill on the rock that my neighbour uses to stop people driving over the corner of his lawn. You have to look closely to see the scratches, but they are annoying the hell out of me. I spoke to a chips away guy who was touting for business at a local Sainsbury and he won't touch a sunset. I suppose that I should appreciate his honesty. I should have been more careful, I know, but feeling a tad annoyed because although neighbour has plenty of off street parking he never uses it and parks in the road (which is pretty narrow) opposite my driveway in such a position that it makes it awkward to leave my driveway without hittiing his car.
  23. If your European journey takes you anywhere near it, a small detour into Luxembourg may be worthwhile. We always used to fill up in Remich on the border with Germany. The filling stations were alway packed with Germans filling up. http://www.drive-alive.co.uk/fuel_prices_europe.html
  24. Had them in the cloth seats of my Canadian Subaru. Better to have the car burn out than freeze to death.
  25. He has not always been anti Datsun. The 300ZX Twin Turbo is in his book on the top 50 cars.
