  1. Nextbase 412gw

Seems to win out on all the reviews and top recommended by which, whatcar, autoexpress etc so can't be bad

That's the one I went for too, only issue I've had with it so far is sometimes I'll get in the car in the morning and it's in the footwell which I think you will get with any camera which relies on a sucker to keep it in place.

All other features are fine, I did disable audio as it would either capture me calling idiots w*nk*rs or a 'discussion' between me and the OH

  2. <snip>

I'm not entirely sure this is true, there is an old law which stops you from self incrimination. At least that's what I was told  just snap the memory card if the knock was your fault :stir:

From what I understand if they have grounds that an offence has been committed then they can even if you were the none fault party.

However I'm struggling to find evidence of this so you may be correct. Its a right faff to get at the memory card in mine so destroying the card wouldn't be very practice also if you were found to have destroyed evidence where would that leave you especially if the incident isn't your fault but you were trying to cover the fact you were hooning it on the public highway 2 days previously.

    Edited for typos.

  3. Personally I'm wary of GPS, I don't want 55 in a 50 to be the decision maker when somebody drives into me.

i know what you mean but there is an answer to that but if you are worried best not to have one as they can be confiscated by police if the accident is bad enough with whatever history you have on the memory card available.

I'm getting old, I only tend to have a heavy foot up to the speed limit these days anyway so not too worried from that perspective but I may have to review my OH's history to be safe .

  4. I always forget to remove the dashcam from the work car and transfer to the zed, so I think i'll just get one for the zed. Should probably get one for the SO too, like Stu said, it doesn't need to be 4k HD, expensive job, the minimum requirements I'd personally go for is forward facing with a wide angle and a memory card.

I'd say GPS and G sensor also, will help when something occurs off camera.

Think I paid ~£110 for those features

  5. @Jay interesting theory, I ended up driving around with dipped lights all the time on my last black car (98 Escort had it from nearly new) and that seemed to help.

The OH has a red Santa Fe now and we don't see many pulling out in front but as said running red lights seem the norm these days. Not sure if that's down to them no longing waiting a couple of seconds after the other set have gone to red before going amber though or at least that's what Cheshire West have implemented here.

Edit sorry we've gone OT gang.

I'm surprised the Tesla doesn't auto upload it's data including cameras as soon as it detects a collision, as it doesn't I'd request a feature update as they have the sensors and tools already in place.

Apparently it does, records and stores all the images, it's just Tesla doesn't make it available to the public for some reason.

    http://electrek.co/2016/09/13/tesla-autopilot-camera-stores-footage-crash-like-dashcam/

The car also knew it was in a crash as I had a call from Tesla about 10 minutes after the incident to check if I was ok because the car had called home and had disabled its main battery.

Have just ordered another dash cam for my wife's car and will fit one to the loaner X when it arrives too..... People just don't seem to bother looking when driving these days.

If not release to the public (I'm sure a request for any of your data is covered under U.K. Law) but at least the insurance companies or authorities should have access with the correct paperwork.

Anyway, I digress glad no one hurt and it will be taken care of.

Edit: I have this theory about white and black cars that people seem blind to them, I've had one of each and on both occasions I'd often get people pulling out of junctions etc and not see me.

  7. My zed was written off by someone not stopping at a T junction. Insurance companies sided with me straight away so didn't have a problem however I've seen so many near misses including people running red lights we now have one

  8. MS do their E3 thing tonight at 2200, showing off the Scorpio for the first time.

Price will be £429, so it's going to need to be very special AND have some triple A exclusives. Scorpio £429, PS4 Pro £350 at launch; Xbone £429, PS4 £350 at launch. History repeating?

As an Xbox gamer I'm eager to see what it can do, but tbh I've no desire to upgrade right now. I don't have a 4K telly anyway and I'm definitely not buying a new one just for this!

Same boat as you, no 4K telly either so unless my launch day Xbox one dies I won't be looking...

  9. Great points Rabbit, when we bought this place we were able to afford both mortgages no issue and you're correct the way prices seem to be in this area we may find that we can't afford the property type we want due to rapid house prices.

That's a real risk here as houses can sell within a day, particularly the style we would want to 'upgrade' to. That's why I'm contemplating extending here, only downside is we are a semi but we can move the 'living' facilities to the other side if that makes sense.

  10. We're not moving in straight away - got to give two months notice on our current place so will move over in stages.

Best way to do it IMO. When we bought our current place we lived in her apartment for a couple of months while we completed some work and made it habitibal then rented out the apartment.

If we were to move I think I'd sell first and rent somewhere while we look for a new place. Less stress of being in the middle of a chain and can move in over a period of time or just get any work done before moving stuff in.

  11. We finally exchanged yesterday, three stressful months after having our offer accepted. Can't wait to get the keys on 5th June. Always wanted to live in somewhere historic like this but never imagined it would actually happen. :)

Did the survey not flag a problem with the internal walls?

 enjoy, looks a fantastic place

  12. Moved in today!

Great news! i hope you enjoy your new home for many years to come.

One final tip, if you do want to change something like the bathroom etc I'd suggest living with it for a while as you will figure out what does and doesn't work with its current configuration

  13. My 6 Plus is the first phone I've kept for more than a year, I'll admit. It does everything so very well, so I didn't feel the need to upgrade to the S, nor the 7.

I will be getting the 7S/8/X/whatever it's called this year, simply because it's now starting to feel a bit sluggish with new apps. No surprises there though, it's a four year old design!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I did drop my 6plus last week and smashed the screen for the first time ever.

Got my old 5 out of the drawer and updated to iOS 10....boy did it feel small but worked surprising well until I realised I hadn't network unlocked. Anyway had screen replaced as I couldn't justify buying the 7 when a new one is around the corner.

I doubt I'd go for the plus size again though.

I'm a relative tech savvy person who would but the latest phones pre iPhone era, my first one being a 3G which I switched from a Sony p910i IIRC. Anyway I haven't looked back since then and I guess I've got comfortable with Apple.

I never know any one else's choices but whenever I've tried android I've not got on with it for various reasons and I know a few folks who've came back to Apple after giving it a go but I also know plenty who've stayed or gone the other way.

Horses for courses and pretty much personal preference these days.

As for the storage argument, I have a 64gb and don't use anywhere near that with 20gb data per month and streaming services there's no need for my requirements :)

  14. I have a sigma 70-300mm which is a reasonable lens for the money.

the only down side I've had is needing to swap lenses when I'm in a city such as London where you need the range but you would get that with most budget lens options.

Edited as first sentence didn't make sense

  15. I totally get the the reasoning behind a workers union BUT my experience of them which I admit is somewhat limited is the fact that the many layers of union are as corrupt and open to influence as the hierarchy of corporates and have their own best interests at heart, not the members.

I've heard of people following what their rep has told them to do despite what common sense says as they are afraid to step out of line. I remember belonging to a labour club as their pool tables, beer and darts were cheap, if you questioned the commitee or even spoke out of tone you were removed as a member.

The legal aspects as Coldel states are very worthwhile but the shepherding of members is out of order as far as I'm concerned.

  16. Can I vote for SuperStu?

Can't be any worse than the options available.... I always vote for who makes the most sense to me at local level and I see the local labour campaigners out tonight.... rarely see any other parties with exception of LD last time around but that was mainly one of the neighbours dads was the candidate

  17. I thought frackers weren't constantly logging, it will take an event such as a call to the tracking company or the alarm going off for it to send its location so if I'm right then proving you weren't somewhere retrospectively would be difficult same with the cheap android PAYG type solution, it sends a text back with its location when you ask it.

Would depend how you set it up.

Custom android jobby could do just about anything you can think of.

That's a very good point

I'd just assumed you could 'ping' it for a location but I suspect anything other than that would use credit BUT could meet requirements :)

  18. Yeah I think the cheap ebay jobs wont track your car 'always on' but more just ping a location when asked? But for 10 quid plus the PAYG sim its a bit of a no brainer to put one in? Especially if like me sometimes you lose it in big car parks

Yep handy unless you're parked in a 10 story NCP or below ground

  19. Should think a tracker will also provide decent evidence should your license plate be cloned.

Hard to get a speeding ticket in X if you can prove your car was parked in Y at the time.

  20. I think I said in an earlier post that you have to pester solicitors constantly because if you don't then the person who is becomes the priority.

Hopefully she's cheked her in tray and found the searches now but one of the very first thing my solicitor did was the searches. I had them within a week or so of returning the pack.

Edit: keep pushing, you're doing the right thing by chasing... getting very close
