  2. Hi Steve,There's Niss-Tec in Swansea but I've not used them myself. I tend to do the basic servicing myself as I know it'll be done properly but take it to Jez and Craig at Horsham Developments just North of Newbury for anything specialised. Just to add, a mate of mine took his 3 series BMW to Avia and was given some great advice without any charge. Also Avia are rated over on the South Wales section on Pistonheads so worth popping in there for a chat. Good luck and let us know how you get on there?

  3. My car returned to Horsham Developments for it's fourth visit yesterday. Super Pro compression/banana arm, lower front & ARB bushes fitted along with an alignment session. No more crunch/squeak from the front end and now the handling and steering feel far sharper with no apparent slack (that was there previously.)

Big thanks to Jez and Craig for their patience and sorting my car out on a Friday afternoon. Excellent service gain :kicking:

  4. Bridgestone say..."Bridgestone Tyres Bearing The Ecopia Mark Offer Low Rolling Resistance For Excellent Fuel Economy And Less CO2 Emissions."

Ahhh FFS!, seems I was running RE050A Ecopia marked tyres on the rear before my unrepairable puncture (on my Monday morning commute to Crewe). :( The Ecopia logo is suspiciously small so it looks like I'll now have to fit an Ecopia version to match up the rear axle pair.....bugger :( My usual tyre fitter in Swansea didn't point this out to me when I purchased them a couple of months ago, so perhaps all new RE050A's will be Ecopia marked from now on?

I wonder how many other owners are running on new RE050A's not realising they are Ecopia's.....I bloody well didn't know  . Same tread pattern and sidewall markings except for the small Ecopia logo.

    :surrender:

  5. Having to replace a nearly new rear tyre with nasty puncture so have to stick with the RE050A's for now M13KYF.

Just been on Bridgestones website and it lists several part numbers for the RE050A 245/45/18 69W rather confusingly but doesn't elaborate on the differences. I always thought a tyre of the right model, size, speed and load rating would be identical....better check the sidewalls on the fronts and rear when I get back to my car tonight for minute differences. Don't want to be running and eco & standard on the same axle, could be worse than running nankangs!!!! :scare:

  6. Just wondering if there's any actual difference between the "standard" and "ecopia" version of the tyre? Local fitter has both listed on his syetm for the 350z at the same price, is it just a marketing gimmick or has the name changed over the last few months?

    Thanks,

    Dean

Edited to change "eco" to "ecopia"

  7. I work away from home and on my morning commute managed to collect a large metal object in one of my rear tyres. It's not reparable as the inner side wall didn't cope well with the deflation (all lumpy) and I think the tyre is toast anyway :(. Running on space saver spare at the rear now.

My situation is that I'm away from my home in South Wales and up in Crewe/Nantwich area all week, so don't know who is good/bad/expensive/cheap. I'd really appreciate a heads up on where to get a new, reasonably priced, Bridgestone RE050A 245/45/18 fitted anywhere in the area. Obviously I'll ring around but thought I'd ask the forum for the local knowledge.

    Thanks.

  8. Tires: Any recommendations on Winter tires and a good place to source them?

Wheels: I have been thinking about getting a cheap/used set just for Winter tires. Any ideas?

I've just sourced some Kumho Tyres from http://www.mytyres.co.uk/. Don't forget to buy through Quidco though for that extra 3% cashback

For wheels, I purchased a 2nd set of 18" touring alloys from a forum member. I'm getting them refurbed and will put my Bridgestone R0E50's on these and my new winters on my current touring alloys. You could get a set of Jap Import 17" wheels as the tyres are a little cheaper, I think these alloys fit over the Brembos with no problem (but have a forum search to be sure).

  9. Pics of my sub install here....

    http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 557&type=3

The sub is bolted down using existing holes in the chassis so no extra drilling needed. Lee at Sonic Frontiers build the box and created my setup. He used a rainbow vanadium 10" sub in the end and it's as clean and low as any sub I've ever used before, very impressed. There's morel mids in the doors and morel tweeters in the a-pillars, using DLS crossovers for a more aggressive cut off slope. The rear speakers have been removed and not replaced as the staging would be all over the place if there was any rear fill pulling the sound back towards the boot. A Genesis 4 channel amp powers it all with an Alpine head unit.

  10. I'd ring around a few local tyre places, you might be surprised. For example, last month I had two rear Bridgestone RE050A's fitted to my zed for £375 all in at Harris Bros Swansea. I've been going there for years and they are excellent on tyre prices. I would have though that most city's have a keenly priced tyre outfit, just needs a little ringing around.

Where are you based so that other forum members can point you in the right direction?

  11. The guy is sayin he is waiting till tuesday as he may part ex. Ive said it would be better to sell .... That would be amazing though if needed pal i will sort you some cash

No need for cash for me mate but I'm sure the moderators of the forum could do with a gesture so keep the site funded. :)

Let me know how your negotiations get on with the seller, PM me with the details and I'll aim to view for you

  12. I'm in Neath which is near Swansea so I can take a look if the seller is OK with that?

I'm a GT owner so would appreciate any GT4 specifics I need to look out for ;)

I can take plenty of HI Res pics, check cooling fans work, tyre condition, paint colour consistency, brakes, panel gaps, electrics, exhaust back box condition (at the usual fail point), check the fsh etc. Hell I'll even take it for a spin and compare it to my GT if the owner is ok with that. :teeth:

  13. Seems like a good price for a GT4 with those miles.

The ad states that the car has new Brembo brakes! Well the callipers are red (just painted? or rebuilt) and the discs look like the expensive DBA's (that's a plus) so could be another positive for the car. If the owner is an enthusiast (which I'd expect if DBA's have been fitted) then he'll know about the common issues such as cooling fan failure (which has been rectified according to the ad) and clutch line heat build up, banana bar bush replacement etc. Worth a look but well worth comparing it with others.....the gear knob can always be changed easily though ;)

  14. I wouldnt bother with part worn winters TBH 4mm and they are summer tyres. I ordered mine from mytyres last week. They had 3% off

Agree with your 4mm comment after doing a little research so no part worn winters for me.

Mytyres seem to be the cheaper retailers out there at the moment too so thanks for the heads up.

Out of interest, which ones did you go for as I'm thinking Khumo's as reviews on the Nankang SV-2's say their braking ability in the wet isn't that good (worse than some summer tyres according to auto express).

  15. You'd probably need to ditch all of the BOSE equipment just to add another sub.

But don't hold me to that.

    Agreed.

The BOSE sub (read clarion) isn't that good at all. you'd be far better removing the original BOSE sub and fitting a custom box/sub/amp combo. Use a 4 channel amp and bridge the two rear channels to power the sub, the front pair can run a decent set of components up front. As for the head unit, I went single din to use a better DAC/transport mech (for SQ) but really wanted a double din unit for the screen & possibility of adding a reverse camera.
