Checking oil

Hi guys this maybe a newbie z owner question.

 

In a normal car you check oil when cold but in the zed manual it says check level when at operating temp?

 

Bit confused as going against what ive always done with it being cold

I cant even get a decent reading unless its stone cold. Stupid bendy ass, kinked thing seems to get clarted with oil all the way out!
