thedon Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I'm going to paint my plenum with VHT crinkle paint when I take it off to repair the cam covers. What sort of primer do I need? Etch? Normal? High temperature? Thanks, and apologies if this is a repost - I've searched and found several threads but no definitive answer. Quote
RobPhoboS Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) I used the VHT wrinkle paint, no primer, just 3 coats or so. I did clean it with carb cleaner, rubbed it down a bit with some green sanding sponge type of stuff (similar to this http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/cleaning-body-repair/fillers-preparation/halfords-sanding-sponge-medium-coarse )... then carb cleaner again to get rid of the dust, masked it up properly and sprayed it. GMballistic Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yep basically what Rob said ~ I just thoroughly cleaned mine with carb cleaner then went more or less straight on with the painting. 1 Quote
Piranha Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 +1 for cleaning and straight to painting. I just grabbed a can of Halfords engine paint which said it could be applied directly without priming. 1 Quote
