euphio Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 I've had my car a couple of weeks bow and have only recently started to put my foot down. Someone casually mentioned the sound saying something like oh, that's a nice diff whine. Since becoming aware of it I'm hearing it more and more, mainly when up past 3000. The sound goes if I drop the clutch so I think it's more likely the gears. The only way I can really describe it is as if the car has a turbo, it doesn't overpower the engine sound but it's there in the background especially if the radio is off. My dad went out in car and just said it could be because you are sat over the gearbox, or perhaps a bearing on its way out. I just wondered ifs this sound relatively normal on these cars, or should I only be hearing the grunt of the engine during heavy acceleration? rothers2901 Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 not quite sure what you mean by DROP THE CLUTCH do you mean depressing the clutch to the floor and the noise gets worse? if it is worse when you have engaged a gear and lifted the clutch then it sounds like the thrust bearing is worn.
