On a serious note, you could try a silicone spray, or something along the lines of GT85, which cleans, but also lubes, and it does not attract dust like WD40

Regular cleaning of the the frame joints, together with judicious use of silicone spray, will keep keep your hood operating perfectly. I use the Halford's product with good results
