Fluke Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I have started to notice a noise that sounds like its coming from the passenger rear wheel. It's less noticeable at low speeds, but I hear a low constant rumble at speed, that sounds almost like road/tyre noise. I don't hear it coming from any where else so think it may be a wheel bearing on its way out. How expensive is it to get a bearing replaced? Quote
planetsurfer2 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I paid £210 for two rear hubs last year. If you have a proper ramp, they are not too bad to replace. Quote
Fluke Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 I don't have access to a ramp, but have twirled a few spinners in my time. How hard/easy is the job? Is there a guide anywhere? Quote
Ewen@Clark Motorsport Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 If it is the bearing we have brand new OEM for £80 http://www.clarkmotorsport.co.uk/parts/Rear-Hub-and-Bearing/43210-AL505 Quote
planetsurfer2 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Instructions from zmanalex Managed to get everything loose apart from the top 17mm bolts attaching the carrier that are recessed.Yes it is tight, however if you can get the drive shaft joint far enough back then you will get in but you may find then you require a slim line socket. In this instance I would advise you just to disconnect the drive shaft from the diff. which should only take you minutes, it is a flat flange so you will not lose any diff fluid. Now you will find that the drive shaft will slide far enough from the hub to get the last bolt out. Refit the 4 bolts by around 6 threads and gently tap the heads of the bolts uniformly so that it comes out square. Quote
Fluke Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Are there any instructions on removing the hub? I don't have access to a press for the bearing, so I would need to take the whole unit out and take it to a garage to swap them over. Quote
planetsurfer2 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I bought new hubs, it's easier than trying to get the old hubs separated from the bearings. Quote
Fluke Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 I bought new hubs, it's easier than trying to get the old hubs separated from the bearings. So replace it with this unit? Quote
planetsurfer2 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Yes. I'd source it from Clark Motorsport. Quote
Fluke Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 I found an article that shows how to replace the parts. http://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-suspension-diy/290966-diy-rear-wheel-bearing-removal-2.html It says that the bearing assembly still needs to be pressed onto the hub assembly? Quote
Ewen@Clark Motorsport Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Yes that's correct you will need to have the hub assembly pressed out then fitted to the new bearing. If you strip the unit off yourself you might find a local friendly garage that will press it out and in for you for some beer tokens Quote
Fluke Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 If I took it to a garage, how much do think I would be looking at to get it all done? Quote
ph 7 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I think I paid £50 to my guy for the switch over recently. Quote
Ewen@Clark Motorsport Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 That's sounds about right, an hours labour should see it done. Quote
