rattle on start up

Hi , need your help and wisdom!

 

i have a late 300 rev up, 07 plate

when i first start up from cold after been stood for a while i get a small rattle top end, goes away after 2/3 seconds and fine all day after

chain tensoners?

i did a oil change recently and it didnt do it for a couple of times , but doing it again now

any suggestions

Are you running decent oil? But I world recommend getting the chain checked.

Check and double check the oil level first. Hopefully it needs a little top up after your recent oil change.

I read somewhere a while back (IIRC it was ZedmanAlex). I think this is to do with the cam-chain tensioners. On first start up they are slightly loose but the engine pulls them tight during the first 1-2 seconds. Worth getting checked, but mine also does this on cold start up.

will check oil top up situation , and run it for 400- 500 and do oil again poss?? i think having such a high fast idle doesnt help the situation !!

Hi, my 350 does the same on cold start up, I think the high start up rpm doesn't help either, wondering if anyone has had the start up rpm lowered when having an uprev? Or is it possible to do that?

Unlikely to be fuel damper as they are usually noisy all the time once they start to fail.

 

Had an Uprev and idle reduced slightly but still get the rattle every once in a while on start up from cold.

Isn't it just the hydraulic tappets losing oil as it has stood, then takes a few seconds on a cold start for the oil to pump to the top of the engine ?
