Patch Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 What causes all the black soot? I cleaned my tail pipes inside and out two weeks ago,all shiny but now they are covered in black soot. Does this suggest that the car is running rich? Quote

If its got HFCs or decats these will help add to the soot. I doubt it's anything to worry about. Just remember you are driving a 3.5l with reasonable performance, not some Eco 1litre with an egr valve & 1000cell cat! Quote
Parsnip Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 After all my mods but before my remap, the exhaust was sooty as anything, during mapping they showed me that it was running slightly lean - now it is sootier than ever and does an occasional fire fart when the pipes are hot Quote

It's only throw you fault code up if it's well out of specification, it still can be running rich just a bit and causing the soot without fault codes. Otherwise I agree I wouldn't worry about it, just wash the car and enjoy the power. :D Quote
