Shel Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 My o4 zed has done 61k, i've owned it a month and i wondered if i should change the gearbox oil as first to second isn't great, also what is moly? and should i add that too Quote
DannyBoy Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 unfortunately if you have an '04 Zed, your first to second shift is probably never going to be that slick. Genuine Nissan gearbox oil and Molyslip additive will help, but it's unlikely to completely cure the problem. does the genuine oil and the Molyslip DB Quote
theheff Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Looking to do mine soon. Horsham developments do a pack for the stuff you need http://www.h-dev.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=78_169_293_1418&products_id=25501 Quote
stubzie83 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I had mine changed for OEM fluid and Molyslip at about 36K and the box was much smoother. However, my 6th gear synchro has packed in since so I'm getting a new box Quote
Shel Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks for the replies everyone, i will get this done if i can sort out my rear rattle first Quote
jjt Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I have a 2004 car, with nearly as many miles on as yours. I noticed that the gearbox was slightly notchy from 1st-2nd, despite having had castrol saf x-o put in it a year ago by previous owner. I switched it for genuine Nissan transmission fluid with molyslip and it's now perfect, even when cold. as I got mine from him with great service and advice. Also probably worth changing the diff oil; the old stuff was a bit minging and it definitely feels better as a result Quote
Spidermonk Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Just to reiterate JJT's comments, I've also just had my gearbox and diff oil changed, ordering the oils and Molyslip from Zmanalex. In fairness my gearbox was pretty good before, though now it just feels so much better, effortless changing through all gears hot or cold. Hands down the best improvment to cost gain I've done to my Z. Quote
