The Autocar roadtest had figures for acceleration in gears which you probably all know ( ) but I'll write them anyway mph 6th 5th 4th 3rd 2nd 20-40 9.4 6.6 4.6 3.6 2.4 30-50 8.6 6.0 4.4 3.4 2.4 40-60 8.4 58 4.4 3.2 2.4 50-70 8.2 5.6 4.4 3.2 60-80 8.4 5.8 4.4 3.4 70-90 9.0 6.2 4.6 80-100 9.6 6.4 5.0 90-110 6.6 After clearing my CEL and reading the thread about the Rolling Road day and how dissapointed you can be on actual hp, I took the car out for a spin and thought I'd test my time in 4th from 40-60. 4th gear seemed the best choice given how uniform the 4th gear times are and would balance out any inacuracy in my speedo as it wouldn't matter if I was going 38-58 as it should still be 4.4 I used the onboard stopwatch to take readings as it is only 2 presses. I did 6 runs in total, 3 first were with my windows down and 3 with them up 4.65 4.63 4.67 4.42 4.44 4.45 Now I appreciate that there is alot of scope for tenths to be innacurate due to reaction times/road levels but that is what I got watching the speedo go up in a 20 mile per hour increment. Now, I'm really pleased with that result given the 174K miles my 04 has done and it is due its service...I was imagining far worse figures given that the figures would've come from a brand spanking new car. Stew Posted July 18, 2012 Share Posted July 18, 2012 Well the number of runs and consistency of the numbers seems to prove that the car/driver/timing is consistent! Not something I've ever worried about however it's nice to see in gear times being used as they (to me) are a true indication of how a car performs. GazR Posted July 18, 2012 Share Posted July 18, 2012 I bought a Racelogic Performance box awhile ago and it measures all these things. Alot of the car mags use them for their test data. The 350z is effortlessly quick and the numbers were far better than it felt. I only did afew 0-60, 0-100 runs as i didn't want to abuse the car too much 0-10...0.5 0-20...1.2 0-30...2 0-40...3.2 0-50...4.2 0-60...5.4 0-70...7 0-80...8.6 0-90...10.7 0-100..12.9 I'll try some in gear times in the next few days. The impressive thing about the 350z is how in each gear the g force on acceleration is almost the same through out the whole rev range. GazR Posted July 19, 2012 Share Posted July 19, 2012 Hi, its a standard 04 350z. Many of the motoring test in the US achieved 5.2-5.5 on the early models. I know Autocar always test cars with about 100 miles on the clock so the cars are abit tight at the time. To be honest to 60 i can't see there being much in any of the models as its difficult enough just to put the power down. Not that im too fussed with the 0-60 time, i think it should be banned lol. 30-80 would give a better idea of real world performance What amazed me when using the Vbox is how you still need to use up all the revs in each gear to get a decent 0-100 time. The difference between 12.9 and 15 was changing gear afew hundred rpm later. I can see how the HR models puts abit of ground on the early cars once you're moving. It plots the circuit and gives you telemetry read outs of all your laps comparing cornering g's, braking g's, split times, anything you want really lol. It would also be a great judge of performance if you modified your car beacuse this thing really doesn't lie. ................2nd...... 3rd...... 4th...... 5th MPH 20-40........ 2.31..... 3.28..... 4.47 30-50 ........2.23..... 3.08..... 4.29..... 5.56 40-60........ 2.32..... 3.08..... 4.02..... 5.38 50-70 ...................3.03......3.95..... 5.32 60-80....................3.26..... 4.01..... 5.34 70-90.............................. 4.16..... 5.52 80-100..............................4.41..... 5.69 90-110..............................4.82..... 5.89 Seems to be marginally quicker than the autocar test but im not sure if they do them with 2 people in the car.
